Other games.

The #1 team in the country, UConn, according to some experts, just lost a home game to St. John's. And Xavier won again pushing their record to 15-3.

Michigan St 57 - Purdue 55. Under 4 TO with PU at the line for 1. Edey has 30--MSU has deployed the "Let Edey get his and defend the 3 ball" strategy and it's worked really well. MSU also has been doing a good job on O in getting Edey switched onto guards where he gets cooked.

This MSU/Purdue game turned high level in the second half (after a bit of an ugly first half). Random comment, watching both teams make a concerted effort to box out is impressive to watch.

This is exactly the formula on how to beat Purdue. Force Edey onto guards if in man or force Purdue into Zone.

Helluva game by Eddy…
IOWA going to need Ogundele to make Eddy work for his position and points…
Iowa will dig and double him. I honestly would like to see Iowa go small against them with the lineup of Kris, Payton, Connor, Dix and Perkins. Force Edey to either guard Kris around the perimeter or into a zone. How teams lose is by trying to play him mano y mano--he's going to beat whatever big men we throw at him on offense, we may as well make him extremely uncomfortable playing defense to see if he tires out.

Took a last second trey by Rutgers to give Purdue it’s lone loss by 1.
TBF, they also barely escaped OSU and needed overtime to escape Nebraska. Not convinced anyone has separated THAT much from the pack in the Big Ten just yet, though Purdue just got a HUGE cushion in the standings today.

Eddy is not a very good shooter, he simply shot puts jump hooks in the vicinity of the rim, if he can back his way to with in 3 feet, he’s actually a poor shooter.
Ogundele is 275 lbs Eddy 295 lbs so Ogundele certainly has more concentrated lower mass than most, ie Rebraca at 230.

I think playing small would be a disaster as there is nobody to keep him from getting 25 rebounds and shooting from point plank range. IMHO

Okay, so Ogundele may be marginally better on defense--what does he do offensively for Iowa? We still have to outscore them at the end of the day. You're sacrificing a lot, just to maybe slow down Edey slightly.

With a small lineup, it forces Edey away from the basket on defense unless they play a zone (which is why you play that lineup with four 3point shooters and Tony). Iowa then has Sandfort and Connor to crash offensive glass against guards while Edey is out on perimeter. On defense, Iowa would have to run their press into zone. Try to speed up the freshmen guards and make them beat you rather than the National POTY frontrunner. I'm not saying it's foolproof--Edey still gets his ungodly statline-- but he likely gets that anyways with Jelly in there.

Ogundele played well vs all the Purdue Bigs at Purdue. 16 minutes 7 points

IOWA needs strength vs Eddy of Defense.
IOWA doesn’t need Ogundele to score anything more than layups, as IOWA has court full of shooters

IOWA will be in trouble without Ogundele

A couple quick points:
Edey is also WAY better this year than he was last year--he's gone from 19 minutes/game to almost 31.5 and is much better shape. If we're just basing things off of last year, Edey only averaged 8 points against Iowa in 3 games and was only really a factor in the BTT game. The guards are what beat us last year in the regular season.
We're talking about a guy for us whom hasn't even suited up in almost a month and has a noticeable limp due to a knee injury.

I say we just agree to disagree and move on.

Anyone watching this All-Access game on CBS? Pretty interesting.

Didn't realize Tim Miles had gone to San Jose State.
