Owen McMullen

He's a Ped State fan. Turk and Chief were bound to miss a few based on sheer numbers of those asshats.

PSU fan here. Sorry to hear for Michael and your team.

Indeed he is. But my fellow Hawk fans responded with class in defense of young McMullen.

Pretending to be an Iowa fan and crapping on one of our recruits isn't just a "wrestling recruiting opinion". It's an attempt to make our fans look bad and shouldn't be allowed on this board

I posted the “opinion” post and then went back and then checked his posts.

IMO this is a huge get! Yes, I said huge. Owen has upside and it opens back up a very much missed pipeline with Young Guns/PA wrestling. I would wager on the final bigboard Owen is in the top 100 recruits and wouldn't be surprised if he jumps all the way up to top 60. I know he is not ranked as high of a recruit as Kaleb Young but this reminds me when he was the first to verbally commit to the Hawks before Kem dawg, Spencer, and Murin.

Welcome aboard young man!

Gonna be tough to lure Forrest and Bassett away from Penn St. I think those 2 are 132 and 144 now (and I assume they will grow) and Penn State has 3 sophomores at 49-57-65 (Van Ness, Kasak and Mesenbrink) so after two more years of high school and that should get them a RS when they land in State College then fill 2 of those weights as RS FR. But I've been wrong before.

dude ruined a thread for this kid. myself don't count this lad out.he will have many good people to sharpen his skills.
Ruined a thread !! Really.

I am sorry just not excited about a room guy that never will wrestle any match in a varsity match

I should have said. Super wow! Iowa got the next Jordan Burroughs

I must either be an eternal optimist or naive as heck. I actually thought he was complimenting that fact that Iowa was able to recruit scholars and clean cut kids to their program. The kid came, he saw, and he liked. That is a positive in my world.
Boy do I feel stupid!!! :)

Sure but where was the proof he wasn’t a Hawkeye fan and who found the actual proof? Btw, I’ve been around long enough to know that we Hawk fans have no problem making ourselves look bad. How many posts have been made complaining about getting
“room” guys and not “elite” recruits? If I bounced all of them, it would be Turk, me and just about enough to make a 30 man roster next year.

Your opinion wasn’t solicited by anyone so if you have nothing positive to say about a kid who committed keep it to yourself.

Seriously it couldn't have been more clear. With that said:

I don't think it's out of line to give an Iowa fan a time out if he decides to shit on a recruit on a commitment thread. You seem to be drawing a line like dynomutts post would be ok if he were an Iowa fan, which actually isn't true at all IMO. Any Iowa "fan" that chooses to run down a commit on the actual commitment thread should be given a time out. They should also take a deep look in the mirror. Non Iowa fans insta ban is appropriate. His post was timeout worthy as an Iowa fan and easy ban as the troll that he is.

You also say we hawk fans have no problem making ourselves look bad when you know good and well it's the same small handful on here that openly knock the team and wrestlers. The same ones who along with the trolls ran off great posters. You pulled a Willie and lumped the majority with those Hawk "fans". The vast majority on here are very respectful towards the athletes. Many don't post much because of the loud negative posters and trolls. I think some will filter back.

I sure hope personal attacks/insults on the wrestlers won't be allowed regardless of fandom. IMHO, being a mod doesn't just mean thin out the trolls. It means keeping comments about the team we're fans of respectful. That's my 2 cent interpretation. A timeout here and there for Iowa fans can accomplish that without bouncing everyone.

Big welcome aboard! Saw this kid wrestle live at young guns not too long ago. He was going with someone this board would love to have as well. I can tell you now that he isn’t coming here to not start and AA. He believes and he is getting better. He also isn’t just a pawn to land Bassett or Jax. Although that would be lovely. People are beating down the doors of McCort kids and someone is complaining about Iowa landing one? Give me a break. Big time get. Big time potential for him and Iowa depending on how this all plays out.

I think the number of regular posters who have made any truly disparaging/classless comments about a recruit are very few and far between. Unless the term “room guy” is considered as such, which I know some do.

Kid seems to be an A+ person, and a good wrestler to boot. Nothing not to like.

I love every time i see Charles Matthews on a broadcast hyping up his teammates.

Hopefully he blossoms into a stud, but even if Mr McMullen never sees the mat there are plenty of guys who never see the limelight that still make the program better

BULLSH*T. It's obvious what the trolls game plan was. Asleep at the wheel:rolleyes:
It’s the same strategy as that dick non Iowa fan bad mouthing Bo. Since that worked and got his dad to say he would never go to Iowa , it encourages these dicks from other teams to get on our social media and bad mouth the top guys we are recruiting, hoping they continue to fall for it.

I hear what you’re saying but this is also an internet message board where fans share opinions. What you’re asking Chief and Turk to do is a very subjective thing.

All can agree that people shouldn’t shit on athletes but as fans I think we have a right to express our frustrations. Especially as we see them in the moment. Hell that’s what fandom is.

I also think that different opinions should be welcomed if they are expressed appropriately. Long story short, the more censorship we do, the bigger of an echo chamber this site becomes. Diversity of thought is a good thing.

Being a troll is hard to define but just like porn, you know it when you see it.
