This is the death of CBB. I know you hit the door types who live and breath this cannot see the writing but only a few halves mostly nots. Sad.

These athletes are pampered and coddled to such an extreme it’s borderline disgusting for being born tall and shoot a ball.

Most go to elite private schools and had tutors/meals/room/gear/AAU travel/money since in grad school and they get 5* hotels private jet money school meals supplements trainers massage recovery and still will bail on any school if come in lightly recruited and school develops them into value.

You can cheer but I’m not watching CBB anymore it’s got absolutely no loyalty and revolving doors and entitled Privledged athletes.

Footballs on the way as well. Its all I used to care about but just like Pro sports and salaries have driven family’s away because John Doe batting .225 and 25 HR needs 10M a year so you have to pay 30-40 min a tix plus 15-20 a beer/food makes it out of most families budget.

But don’t worry you can watch on TV and get Ad fvcked to oblivion then have collectives begging for more so said collage and sport can stay relevant. It’ll kill the game as majority going forward just won’t care that much, watch.

Still love the Hawks but I’m a realist and Iowa couldn’t compete with the Big Players and payers when it wasn’t legal. That’s not changing ever so most just blindly loyal to a shrinking ship.

Sucks as hope used to exist but look at MMB tourney it’s the woman’s tourney now no real upsets it rinse wash repeat going forward. Any decent players swallowed up by Big Boys when season done and D2 left pilfered of all legit talent because of money and endless transfer ability.

Owen's scenario is happening all over college basketball and it's giving players and the game a very bad look. I've repeatedly said this system as it is being applied is unsustainable for just these kinds of problems. DeVries kid is getting the same kind of push back from WV. Took the money and shut the season down when he "knew" he was going to move on after the season.
This
If I was WV I would be pissed off how this whole thing went. Darien DeVries apparently knew he was going to IU in the middle of the season and had his son shut it down too. Not sure if there’s any legal angle for that? I don’t give a shit about WV, IU or either DeVries but this is not right

Don't forget: BYU is paying $4M to the #1 prospect in the Class of 2025.
Yep and IIRC they are being bankrolled by some deep pocket boosters....the genie left the bottle and will never return, I'm out of adjectives to describe it. Well, I guess you adapt and accept it or go to D3 like that First Four team did after they lost...

That said, not sure I could be more excited about this hire, a massive injection of energy into the bball program, would love to see the new NIL signups, ticket requests, etc since the hire...

It'll be interesting to see how he does next year. If he improves, he'll be in discussion with the next highest bidder by mid-season.
Maybe he’ll have a mysterious injury next season, right before it would have counted as a season of eligibility?

Rinse and repeat… and 12 years from now, Owen Freeman is still playing college basketball, and has made 96 million dollars…

It makes sense but teams would just go back to under the table payments unfortunately.
All NIL is is just doing the same thing that has always happened but out in the open, Bag Men had been around for Decades , only difference is fringe and bench Players now feel like they deserve big bags instead of only the impact Players getting the Cars , bling and Mom a new flat close to campus .So Your statement is spot on, Boosters , Coaches and Schools will find a way to skirt the system to win, Nothing has changed just the method of delivery

With the help of @Max_Rebo , @Doodads and Hoohah , and @BDE420 , I have updated this list.

Imagine what the value of this package is annually, especially for out of state (and private school) tuition.

Players are now getting:

* Revenue sharing
* Free tuition
* Free housing
* Free HIGH QUALITY food, 24/7

* Free tutoring
* Free Nike (or Adidas, etc) clothing

Also:

Hell, I love Creighton, in fact when it comes to men’s basketball, I probably watched them more than any other team this year. He will do well there

Agreed. I’m probably in a minority but I don’t think we suffered from a lack of talent this year.
We had talent but lacked synergy. In other words, the pieces didn’t fit together.

This isn’t a 1:1 comparison, but imagine you had an NBA starting 5 of Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, John Stockton, Pete Maravich, and Luka Doncic

Tons of talent, sure, but you’re not beating many Playoff-caliber teams with that squad

The numbers were never this big though.

The NCAA has become almost irrelevant. They allowed the NIL to get completely out of hand because of the lack of a cap. And ditto for the transfer portal by eliminating the "sit out a year" requirement. Is there any wonder why venues like Iowa are suffering from attendance woes? Fans are quickly becoming indifferent to the game where player loyalty to a school is almost a thing of the past.
