Penn St, Wisconsin Both Lose

I just want to know your thoughts on how Penn St and Wisconsin's losses tonight will impact Iowa in broader terms this season. Obviously Wisco losing puts us one step closer to stealing the lead in the Big Ten West. The only worry I have is that Penn St losing will drop their ranking significantly and an Iowa win in Happy Valley might not look as strong. What are your thoughts?

As long as we get to Indy, I don't care what our victory over Penn State will look like.

Unfortunately, Iowa isn't a team that can make the playoff with one loss, no matter who they beat. That's reserved for the blue bloods. Penn State's ranking shouldn't matter for our game with them since it'll just be the final B1G standings that determine our bowl game.

PSU's rank doesn't matter.

We're done trying to impress the committee. Iowa's only focus is to win as many games as they can.

Unless the goal is to make the playoff, which seems unlikely, PSU losing today means absolutely nothing to Iowa.

Ya, iowa schedule looks a even weaker. Psu loses to msu. Wisconsin gets crushed by mich. And iowa doesnt even play mich or msu. Iowa looks like a fine team, but hard to tell how good they are if they dont even play or beat a ranked a team. ;)

Iowa is not in the playoff debate unless it goes 12-1 and beats an undefeated OSU or 1 loss Michigan team. The likelihood of any of that playing out is minimal.

Strength of schedule could matter for us with respect to a New Year’s Game of 6 bowl. Especially if we are 2 loss team at the end of the year.

My team just beat a ranked team for the second week in a row. The game just got over with about an hour ago. I think I'll celebrate by heading over to another team's message board and spew some crap. I have no other Saturday night plans.

I disagree completely if iowa wins out and beats an undefeated Osu in big title game iowa is in but if it's a one loss Michigan in title game and iowa wins its a little more cloudy to the playoff

Ya, neither one of those ranked teams you guys beat are any good. Osu is garbage and I have no clue how wvu is ranked #6. That team was not good.

But hey, we beat you guys.

I think if the Hawkeyes win out, they’ll probably be in the conversation, more upsets will occur. There’s a whole lotta football left to play, we’re not even halfway into the season. We’re just getting to the interesting part.

It's pretty ridiculous to be discussing this, but since we are, I would add that 12-1 Iowa would not get the benefit of the doubt whatsoever from the CFP Committee, based simply on 1) their name (or lack thereof), 2) their Rose Bowl performance and 3) the B1G's dismal performances their last two CFP semi-final games. IMO, they would have to be one of only 4 P-5 teams remaining with 1 or fewer losses, and they could still be beat out by a 2-loss SEC team. Fair or not, it's just the way it is.

This! We're not competing for a playoff spot without dominating every game from here out anyway. And that's the only reason we'd care what a victory over PSU looked like.

I understand your logic. But our focus should be on playing sound football. We can't control what others think. The only thing the team can control is their focus and preparation. Take care of that, and there will be a good reward.

The only thing good about the Wisconsin loss is that it was early in the season. If we can somehow run off 8 wins in a row and then win in the Conf title game, we at least make a top flight bowl and are seriously considered for the playoffs.

I didn’t think Iowa had a chance for the playoffs and it’s still very slim chance, but look at the teams in the top 10. Georgia and WVU get dominated. ND squeaks by a bad Pitt team, Washington is done. Anyone believe Texas is “back”? Clemson looks beatable in a weak ACC. Bama is the only team that is a lock I believe.

If Iowa runs the table and makes the B1G title game they probably play osu or Michigan..... two teams Iowa has beat or been very competitive with the last decade.

Just like 2015 I’m going to sit back and enjoy this season.
