Both MM and Kerk were at their previous schools for fall semester only. MM competed in 3-team dual and had two matches. Greg competed unattached 8 times. Both left the schools before 2nd semester of their freshmen years.Did Messenbrink or Kerk actually wrestle for another school? or did they transfer before wrestling for another school? You're just so...........deepI don't think that's ever been the rhetoric in the larger wrestling community. Michigan started it with Suriano & Brucki, and then bought half their starting lineup last year. If you're letting Mineo get you triggered, that's on you.
The portal itself isn't even the big deal, it's portaling one year rental grad transfers. To me, there's a big difference between bringing in a Parco or Buchanan for just this year and bringing in Caliendo with three years of eligibility left. The former is just a band-aid that you need to keep reapplying every year. The latter is someone you can build around for a longer time more like a recruit.
Thank you, Band-Aid Boy.You're just so...........deep
Please list out the wins that you see.Without the NIL transfers, Iowa scores the same amount of points as Michigan st.
Wins? It's hard to say in a dual like this imo. Please list out the wins that you see.
so they are transfers.... thats strangeBoth MM and Kerk were at their previous schools for fall semester only. MM competed in 3-team dual and had two matches. Greg competed unattached 8 times. Both left the schools before 2nd semester of their freshmen years.
Yes they are, with four years of eligibility when they transferred in it seems . I don't think summer getting it, the thing about transfers is a dig at the Iowa coaches for not being able to develop wrestlers or land better wrestlers. And then attempting to patch up the lineup. Nothing more.so they are transfers.... thats strange
Nobody develops like Karl that's for sure, Their wrestlers get so strong while at PSU.Yes they are, with four years of eligibility when they transferred in it seems . Yeah, you would think that somehow if Penn State was doing something crazy like that someone might find out about it? Or maybe he's just recruiting better wrestlers overall in developing them. Check out the recruiting rankings? Then check out the results in the finals. Then compare that to everyone else. Then tossing the most favorable geographic location for wrestling in the entire country.Nobody develops like Karl that's for sure, Their wrestlers get so strong while at PSU.
Maybe Iowa needs to hire a team Dr. that will diagnose all the wrestlers with ADHD so they can all be on high doses of Ritalin during their matches... I have heard that works at other schools.
Agreed, this is just a message board dig to get underneath people's skin. Your way of looking at it makes sense,Transfers are transfers. Trying to have some moral high ground based on how much eligibility they have is incredibly stupid. The coaches’ job is to construct the best roster they can, however they can.
Maybe we are aware of all this? Why come here and repeatedly tell us how good your team is? Gets old fastYeah, you would think that somehow if Penn State was doing something crazy like that someone might find out about it? Somehow he's doing better and I think it's because he's a better coach working with better material, in a better area for wrestling , nothing more than that.
I agree.... Give us a break and give the trolls a kick in the A$$ off of the boardMaybe we are aware of all this? Why come here and repeatedly tell us how good your team is? Gets old fast
Hmmm, I am the BIGGEST homer on this board or close TWOOOO it and even I am not seeing what you are, which I hope I am missing something???If we have Teemer I see us winning 3 matches with a punchers at 2 more. If it was at Carver I would feel better about a Possible 5 to 5 but it’s over there and I am hoping we get 3 wins. As crazy as it sounds they could put up a goose egg on us I think it would have to be a perfect night for them but it is possible.
Probably giving up bonus pts at 125 & 141. 149 is definitely 1 that I think is winnable and something in my gut says 184 is winnable. Likely to happen probably not just a gut feeling. Stallfish is going to do what he does best(nothing) which might actually work in our favor. Either way I don’t see a lot points being scored in this one. Parco is looking better each week so we will see. As I said earlier it’s not that I think we are favored or should win just that we have a chance. Hwt could get ugly as well.Hmmm, I am the BIGGEST homer on this board or close TWOOOO it and even I am not seeing what you are, which I hope I am missing something???
I see us as either being favored and/or having a great chance to win at 133, 157(with Teemer) and 197. I also like our chances at 149, after that I am reaching!!! I do not see any chance at 125 and 141 right now. I am hoping we can be in it at 165, 174, and 184 but I need to see it.
Heavy maybe a 10% chance? What do you have?
Stallfish spooks me in that he has a way of turning things up several notches. The comments from Gabe awhile back about taking him out might trigger bonus .....kind of like a slot machine or something. Bartlett hates scoring points so we may squeak by with dec L if Block goes.Probably giving up bonus pts at 125 & 141. 149 is definitely 1 that I think is winnable and something in my gut says 184 is winnable. Come on he's going to try getting a takedown and humping our ankle for 4 minutes of riding time.Stallfish spooks me in that he has a way of turning things up several notches. Stallfish is scary when he goes 100%
Ayala keeps it from a shutout. Please list out the wins that you see.
Teemer is a favorite over KasakAyala keeps it from a shutout.
Buchanan 50/50
Everybody else loses imo.
But who knows, Hawks tend to wrestle better during regular season.
If a Hawk does gut out an unexpected win, rest assured they lose to that same guy come March when it really matters.
A healthy Teemer isTeemer is a favorite over Kasak
Again, I'm not saying we don't play the game, I'm saying that everyone is but, for some reason, you PSUers like to point out Iowa's actions, but not acknowledge that you do it as well. Buchanan, Parco, Teemer combined aren't getting more than Starocci's 1.2. You are paying 1.2 million for 25 points, Iowa might be spending that to get 60! We are playing it also, just better. Mr. Nichols gets negative attention from other schools because be endorsed several talented kids but nobody cares that a PSU booster is endorsing ONE for the same amount! And how many people would Iowa lose if not for the money? Your point isn't a point.
Wrestlestat predicts 27-3 FWIW, with the only Iowa win Ayala 6-5 over Davis. Kasak beats Teemer 7-4 and Barr over Buchanan 8-6. Obviously, take that with a grain of salt. I don't think PSU is actually favored in either of those matchups (I think WS is factoring too much weight in their algorithm on Buchanan's loss to Beard even though they both have MD victories over him, too), but it's close enough that they could take either on a good night.Ayala keeps it from a shutout.
Buchanan 50/50

I would love to vigorously disagree.Ayala keeps it from a shutout.

It would be miserable having such a negative outlook. Yeah, it's going to be an uphill battle against psu, but I think you are off on your opinion. But I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion.Ayala keeps it from a shutout.

There are multiple weights in this matchup (149, 165, 174, 184 come to mind) where Iowa has very talented, easily AA or high-AA caliber wrestlers that happen to align with PSU's elite hammers. It's a tough hill to climb, but any one could win on a perfect night, just don't bet the farm on it, either.don’t sleep on kennedy. if he keeps wrestling like he has and approaches with the same mindset, I think he could make 174 very interesting
they do it just to get under our fan base's skin. and it works - so they will keep doing itAgain, I'm not saying we don't play the game, I'm saying that everyone is but, for some reason, you PSUers like to point out Iowa's actions, but not acknowledge that you do it as well. Wow, paying 1.2 million for the first 5x champ that actually means nothing because it includes a COVID year. That's like paying a whole Baseball roster more money to win a 101 games because 30 more games were added to the schedule one year. I think you have the odd take. Trust me, Starocci is NOT the reason you got Duke. It's Cael, Levi, and Messenbrink. Starocci is a cancer. That's an odd take.
Penn State boosters aren't paying for "just" 25 points. They are paying the first four time NCAA champ at PSU, so that he can potentially be the first, and only, five time NCAA champ. He will have more individual championships, and team championships, than all three of Buchanan, Parco and Teemer combined. The fact that Penn State produced not one, but two 4x NCAA champs in the same year is part of why Penn State keeps getting insane recruiting classes. Iowa hasn't done it once, Penn State did it twice in the same year, and whether you believe it or not, that matters to HS kids. That's why Penn State can successfully recruit kids like PJ Duke, who is coming to Penn State, despite there being top-3 guys in his likely weight classes with at least two years of eligibility remaining when he arrives.
Go 5 and 5 because Starocci is not losingPick one:
Go 5 and 5, but Starocci wins OR
go 8 PSU and 2, Iowa but Starocci loses
How is he a cancer??? Dont get me wrong he is the worst trash talker of all time... Like embarrassing bad but you can tell it is fake and he is trying to sell his brand. I bet he is liked pretty well in the room.Wow, paying 1.2 million for the first 5x champ that actually means nothing because it includes a COVID year.
