Per CNN Regional Jet crashes in Potomac River

Weird you would post that.

Trump just sent out a message on his social media basically blaming ATC.

I think he's just an idiot that can't shutup. As if we need the president to speculate in real-time on events like these. He's a foolish man.

Definitely don't need it, but in this case the guy has been building a power base around grievance politics and leaning into the idea that anything that goes wrong can be traced right to the top.

If the standards were evenly applied across the board he'd be getting lambasted by his own voter base and VP.

Spare me your faux bullshit, libbity… not tge place for it. Just shut your mouth. Folks dude here. No need for your “witty repartee”…

A good friend’s son is a commercial pilot and he has commented that in/out of Reagan is “an accident waiting to happen”… way too much traffic for allotted airspace and it really gets busy at certain times of the day.
I suppose this was Trumps fault, right? There are times for politics, this isn't one of them.

I hate to be that guy. They're gone. Just an awful situation.

The few that may have survived the impact, likely didn’t survive the fall. And the small chance they did didn’t last long after that. They are all gone. This is bothering me tonight. Such terrible news. Here is to hoping no one on this board knew any of the the victims. That’s how close to home this hits for all of us. Crazy.

I heard one report that an ATC told the helicopter pilot of a plane to be aware of on a different runway.
Someone then suggested the helicopter pilot might then have focused on the wrong plane...one taking off.

It is bothering me too. I think it is because my wife (no pic) flew last week for the first time in two years, through Chicago to Toronto. We never know when our time is up. Just sick for these families. I have many friends in Wichita. I hope none of them were on it!

What was the flight in the 80s that crashed in to the Potomac? Sad deal. Hope they can save as many as possible.
Air Florida. Just before I moved here. What was weird was that when I moved here it seemed like almost everyone I met knew someone on that plane. A much smaller town back then.

Bolling afb and nrl are right across the river, the pentagon a half mile up river
Andrews a few miles away. Dulles. Reagan. It’s super high traffic. If I read it right the helicopters from Fort Belvoir service the entire are for high level passengers, the Pentagon, and top level administration members and Congress members that rate a ride.

I just saw an interview with a guy whose wife was on the flight. Heard from her 10 minutes before the collision. Speechless.
I saw that interview. Terrible. He was saying that he hoped she was being rescued from the water as they spoke. His face and trembling hands though told you he knew what the truth probably was. CNN also now saying there was a group of athletes, coaches, and parents returning from a youth figure skating event. That that could be a large group. Just tragic.

I also saw a post where members of the U.S. National Figure skating association were on board as well. Must have been an event.

The article I read indicated that 15 or so skaters & coaches that are part of the US team were onboard, returning from a competition. The son of the Russian couple skates for the US team (they've lived here since the late 90s and the son was born here)

Too soon to know, but if initial stories are true about the helicopter pilot perhaps watching for another plane, this is likely a catastrophic fail by air traffic control. That helicopter and plane should have in no way been allowed to been flying into same area. This was a commercial jet liner at major airport landing at same time as helicopter is crossing path at 300 feet. Plane should have been held from landing or helicopter landing. Just no way they should have allowed those paths to intersect regardless if training.

while this 'seems' to be more on the helo to a lay eye, i just heard the airplane pilots had 2 and 6 years experience. A buddy of mine is an AA pilot who flies out of DC (and who was actually flying last night) frequently tells me how many of the younglings are really not very good and a little scary.

If the 100 or so folks that die in auto accidents every day got the same kind of coverage I think a lot more folks would be on anti-anxiety meds.

Because we now live in a world where truth does not matter, if there was one non-white in the ATC involved in this incident, this is going to be turned into the biggest DEI argument of all time by the awful human beings in the new administration, their media mouth pieces, and the brainwashed millions that support them.

The alternative/conspiracy theories are already out there.

What goes into a pilot route assignment? Beyond certification for a particular plane.

Definitely some truth to this and it’s common for regional airlines to have fairly inexperienced pilots, but these guys were on final approach. If I were to guess this will end up being 80% on the heli pilot and 20% ATC.

I’m as anti-Trump as they come and while I think a lot of Trump’s actions are going to have a lot of negative future consequences, there’s not a direct line to this. With the actions he took, the repercussions just don’t come this fast.
If Pete Buttigieg was still Secretary of Transportation, we would all be hearing about the terrible infrastructure of the US ATC, airline industry, etc.

You’re still going to hear about it.

You will hear about it 11 days into the administration.

You would hear about it 1,459 days into the administration.
