Per CNN Regional Jet crashes in Potomac River

CRJ’s landing light had to have been blasting the helo pilot in the eyes, I’m just baffled how he could have sighted the wrong plane and/or made no material deviation. Any thoughts on that?
interested in billiken's perspective too, though i note that AA1630 takes off to teh north just to the starboard of the helo, just moments before the crash

Also B...re: the putative monitor video...obviously we can't see shoreline, but maryland shorelline would be to the right on the screen. wondering whether the helo seems awfully far into the middle of rte 1, in the middle of the river and the left of the plane (!), and not along the shoreline. is rte 1 rule that wide? perhaps impossible to infer anything w/o shoreline perspective

Brilliant.
BTW what was the question, who asked it, and what were the rest of his remarks? 🤔

Looks correct to me. Follow route 1 on this. If it shows 200 with a line above it that means follow the route 200 feet and below. Looks like following the Potomac you can be exactly at 1500 ft, no lower or higher. Indicated by the lines above and below (bracketed altitude). Line indicates floor or ceiling, or both.

FYI I just want to say thanks for your expertise in this situation. Very informative.

You’d think but they can be pretty narrow sighted, with their position. Also with the altitude difference and spacing it’s very possible the plane could’ve been in a blind spot from the chopper POV.

I don’t recall the year but I remember a deadly crash into the Potomac by a (now defunct) Air Florida plane where there was a significant loss of life.

Trump now giving his great insight into the accident . . . . . . . . Cold cold night, cold cold waters. 2nd day on the job for Duffy heck of a second day (quite the understatement). Obama and Biden at fault. I signed an executive order raising the bar for aviation ( they have to be talented geniuses). This was DEI issue, hiring people with severe disabilities. Psychiatric and disabled individuals are the people they were hiring. Buttigieg is a disaster . . . He has a good line of bull shit and he ran everything into the ground. Very scary tapes. The helicopter had the ability to stop, go up go down turn. There was so little time. They had perfect vision. It kept going and made slight turn, shouldn’t have been at the same height. Common sense, some bad things happened that shouldn’t have happened.

What type of dumb f*ck is he?

Because we now live in a world where truth does not matter, if there was one non-white in the ATC involved in this incident, this is going to be turned into the biggest DEI argument of all time by the awful human beings in the new administration, their media mouth pieces, and the brainwashed millions that support them.
Nailed it! Trump's blabbering about DEI and air traffic controllers.

For those of you listening this is all bullshit. This has nothing to do with “hiring practices”
...or even if it somehow did, there's probably zero basis to make any statements whatsoever regarding whether it had to do with the hiring practices applicable to the particular individuals relevant to the incident.

If the aircraft was turning for final approach with the belly pointed towards the helo it could’ve created the blind spot. This also could’ve prevented the light up on the NVGs. (Just a guess)

Another thing is the helo might’ve been at the wrong altitude due to a rapidly changing barometer. Just 00.10 of mercury could cause a difference of 100 feet. If they didn’t adjust to the latest altimeter..that right there is an issue.

God damn. I absolutely do not get involved in political discussions here. But watching one asshole after another go up there and blame DEI for this is irresponsible and ridiculous. I’m a lib who did think DEI needed to be reigned in a bit. But this shit happened 15 hours ago and blaming DEI at this point is just pandering to their idiotic base.

You just told us this was DEI, but told us nothing at issue with airplane, nothing with air traffic control, appears to be issue by military helicopter . . . How can you state this was DEI? Because I have common sense.
