To be clear Mr Ayres, you knew he wasn’t wrestling on Monday so why even bring Glory?

Didn't know his credentials but he looked solid physically of course, and solid in his wrestling. Glazier couldn't do much against him, so kudos to him.Stout was a monster in HS. #24 on 2020 Big Board (Glazier #83 in 2019).
Couple time state champ. His older brother was a state champ (wrestled at PSU and Pitt). His younger brother was a Fargo runner up and state runner up (to Lenny Pinto / Nebraska) as a soph and missed all last year due to injury. he's committed to Pitt.
As previously mentioned, his dad was a beast. I believe 4x ncaa qualifier for Clarion.
Lol James Kelly is awesome.
Just you dipshit.Imagine calling Iowa fans pathetic on a message board for discussing said team. If you can’t see the irony, woof
Seems like there was concern that even if he could shed the last 8oz he was going to be compromised against a quality backup that was gonna have no issue going 7 minutes.
Sounds like Ayers is a big fat liar. For one, they knew Spencer wasn't going all week. Glory would not have been trying to make weight at all which it's been proven he was. Second, he would rather sit a highly favored guy and give up a likely 9 or more team point swing? That's not doing his job as coach of the team. Lastly the logic that we are not going to wrestle if the guy we wanted to wrestle isn't going is moron logic. The sport would be dead in short order if teams went by that logic. What a clown 🤡.
😳Why didn’t Princeton have anybody to fill that Glory hole?
Imagine what Lee would have done to that guy. The horror.Seems like there was concern that even if she’d the last 8oz he was going to be compromised against a quality backup that was gonna have no issue going 7 minutes.
F for Princeton for forfeiting their 125 lb. match.
C for Iowa having 50% of their lineup as backups.
I know the end game is what's ultimately important in this sport, but what we saw last was not best for the sport.
I only said it was "not best for the sport." I didn't even say it was bad for the sport. If you think last night is what's best for the sport, then I have one thing to say to you:Did we not learn our lesson on this garbage a few years ago? Same crap was said after the first dual, we spent days/weeks on end debating it to the Nth degree with our own fans ripping our coaches to the Nth degree…and it turned out our guys were out for legit reasons, no one was faking anything, and said people ended up looking like idiots.
Lee has been talked about and talked about. But we haven’t seen Murin or Kem on the mat at all yet and Warner was clearly injured at Luther.
Be better.
Ybarra would have won.

You have no idea of the degree with which Iowa's starters are "injured". We all know Lee's issues, and we all know he recently wrestled intersquad. Are these guys practicing, or are they held out there too? No idea, but it is certainly possible they are practicing with little concern, or doing so with some typical caution.Putting injured or sick wrestlers on the mat isn’t “best for the sport.”
That’s true of any sport. Iowa has two starting defensive backs out today vs due to injury. Is Iowa hurting the sport of football by not playing them today?
When the starter is hurt or sick the backup goes. That’s how sports work.
What a ridiculous take.

I don't care if they wrestled or not, but to claim they are all legitimately injured to the degree they couldn't go out there is ridiculous.
Sure, you can assume the worst, don't know why anybody would, but whatever.Really? The entire premise of the post I replied to is that they aren’t. We don’t know that either but the post I replied to jumps to that conclusion. Is that OK? To assume the worse?
What we do know is that two of them havent seen the mat this year while the other was clearly hurt last weekend. Is it really that hard to add up?
We went through these exact same discussions a few years ago and people ended up looking pretty silly as that season wore on.
It isn't considered rest in the first dual of the year.Sure, you can assume the worst, don't know why anybody would, but whatever.
You know why Coaches rest players in Sports? Because they can.
And they MOSTLY don't give a rats ass whether any of us like it or not. There is such a thing as a healthy scratch. It's more common today across the sports landscape than it's ever been.

What a ridiculous straw man.Putting injured or sick wrestlers on the mat isn’t “best for the sport.”

The bottom line is that you are either intentionally misrepresenting or you've grievously misunderstood. The bottom line is this: that guy ripped the coaches for hurting the sport without any evidence to support it, and you defended him. And I’m somehow the wrong one. Ok.
This is the bottom line, and it's basically irrefutable.Sure, you can assume the worst, don't know why anybody would, but whatever.

I never ripped the coaches nor said they were hurting the sport.
Exactly.Presented without comment or edit.

If you didn't read more into than what is there then there is no problem.
Yeah, super critical. I merely said it wasn't best for the sport. Oh, the horror and the ripping on our coaches, lol.I don’t even know what to say. You’re being critical without knowing anything. Again, this happened a few years ago and it ended poorly for the slack jaw crew.
Yea that 3x AA with multiple wins over the number 2 is a hole…CS needs to claim that spot at 149. Looks like the fifth year senior is fourth string at this weight. I’m surprised that spot on the roster didn’t go to a youngster with potential to develop at a needed weight.
I have a tough time figuring out why we have no better options at 157 after all of these years.
He was disappointing last night, but he'll come around. He always does.Yea that 3x AA with multiple wins over the number 2 is a hole…
Here are my grades:Lee/Ybarra - Incomplete (Glory - F)
Desanto - A. Doing what he does
Ironman - B. Toyed with the guy but never managed to hit the big move
Cobe - A. Fun moves. It was a bit of a blur a couple of times - did he use a ball-and-chain at one point?
Young - D. Please take a shot sometime in the first six minutes.
Bull - C. Decent wrestler, but I’d like to think Bull can major decent wrestlers.
Nelson - B. Pretty sloppy match where he always came on top because of a vast skill gap. It was good to see a lot of sweep singles. Hopefully down a weight he has more confidence in that shot.
Myles - B. Good match against a terrible opponent.
Glazier - C-. Stout it a decent wrestler, but Glazier looked helpless.
Cass - F
Between half the roster injured and some listless wrestling it was not as fun of an opening night at Carver as I had hoped.
Jeesh dude where were your grades when I was in school. I wasn’t disappointed the way some were but these grades are way to damn rosie. You must be being satirical here and I’m just not seeing it.Here are my grades:
125: A- Would have been nice to watch a match but at least both wrestlers showed up.
133: A ADS rocked it!! Good TF!
141: A- Excellent effort. We didn't take many shots, but not to worry, Lee, Micic and Rivera will come to you.
149: A This kid came to wrestle and put on a show; reminded me of the first time I saw Spencer Lee. Loved it!!
157: A- Outstanding effort against a superior opponent. Hopefully Monday will be nicer next time.
165: A- Great showing. Not much scoring but a win is a win.
174: A Very entertaining. Brands was always trying to score points. Good job!
184: A Loved watching Myles wrestle; he never stopped trying to score points. Good TF!
197: A- Excellent effort against a superior opponent. Hope we don't face many more guys like that.
285: A- Great effort by the U23 world champion! Tried for the pin, but it didn't work out.
Overall team score: A/A- Some of these men really came out to put on a show for the fans who love watching Iowa wrestling. As for the rest, they gave it their all...and we'll get em next time. Let's just hope that PSU wrestlers aren't as mean to us as some of those Princeton wrestlers were.
