Nick Lee may move into 141 as a true freshman to replace Gulibon. Then you have 197 where it's possible Cassar could be better than Cutch. Also will return an AA 285 as well. In my opinion next years team will be the best ever at PSU.
Pretty clear that psu will be even better next year.
Iowa will be fighting it out with the rest for the 2-5 spots while psu is way out in front of everyone else.

This is actually the kind of statement I love, and agree with: REAL Hawkeye fans care about the Hawkeyes, and they don't pick out an all star team comprised of other teams' wrestlers, just because they hate somebody else.

The hawks are going to have to scramble just to stay in the top 7or 8. Is Wilcke able to drop to 184#. I thought Wilcke did alright. You have Sorensen,Kemerer, Marianelli, Young. Lee is going to redshirt?

It wasn't a penn state blowhard, it was some random blowhard in the crowd. And news of this stupidity was quickly shouted down on the penn state board.
Unfortunately Baldwin introduced the random blowhard as Mike Bevilaqua who is a former alumni and Penn State wrestler. Interesting that Bevilaqua's stupidity was quickly shouted down on the Penn State board. This appeared at the 1 hour 52 min mark of the ESPN medal coverage and was introduced as a childhood friend by Baldwin. I did not catch this until I went back to that sequence of coverage.

I agree with you. At least to some extent. But the fact remains is that if we want to win a title it will most likely be PSU that we are going to have to knock off. Cael has won 6/7 titles so he is batting .860 right now. We have to pay attention to what they are doing to know what we have to do to win. Since Marinelli signed and subsequent commitments from Lee/Teasdale we have been applauding our current recruiting efforts right? Well we didn't change our tactics to beat Minny or OSU, we did however change to beat the new leader(PSU).
Why didnt Suriano redshirt this year? Two reasons I am sure. One, he is a very good and two, at some point Cael and staff made a decision that they would need his points to win the title, based on projected points Iowa, fOSU and OSU were going to put up. Then when Suriano goes down, they reevaluated and pulled Halls shirt. It's the same thing TNT will do in two years with Teasdale.
I am sure OSU Minny, ISU all did the same thing in the 80s and 90s as they were trying to figure out how in the hell they were going to beat Gable and crew.
I agree we shouldn't dwell on how unbeatable they may be and then subsequently beat it like a dead horse, but we sure as hell can't ignore it. Not if we are going to make the changes necessary to beat them

Fine. But my point is still valid. They made an evaluation based on what they thought their main competition was going to do at nationals and made the adjustment based on their assessment. They didn't just pull his redshirt for the hell of it. Or to rub it in our faces with a bunch of unnecessary points.
Very true, but if you're going to consider pulling a true freshman's redshirt, you first need a true freshman who you think can score you significant points at nationals. This year we didn't have that. Sure, some people would make an argument for marinelli, but he got pinned by Valencia at midlands, who didn't even place at the NCAA this year. Even being generous and assuming he could have gotten 5th - 8th, still wouldn't have given us enough points to compete for the title.
Next year maybe lee or warner could be considered, but lee has a torn acl right now, so he's probably out. Additionally, we might as well redshirt them anyway because with what PSU has coming back there's no way that we're a couple of true freshman away from contending for the title next year. Maybe, maybe we can compete with psu in 2019 or 2020. I hope so

Sure this board loves to rip on PSU and what not. It is bad enough they have to deal with PSU winning another national title, no need to post any threads about PSU next year or whatever. It is like rubbing it in and it is unnecessary IMO. I do not really think I ever see Iowa posters coming over and telling us how great they are or how great this particular wrestler is.
Lord knows the Penn State culture allowed for many second chances for Jerry Sandusky!
Kick Brands if you must. Give Brands the home grown Pennsy talent to recruit and he would dominate....give Sanderson the home grown Iowa talent and he would play catch-up.
Same with football...give Ferentz the advantage of Ohio recruiting and he would annually be at the top...give Urban the Iowa recruiting base and he would struggle.
So much easier to get kids from your own backyard. Brands will have to go to Pennsylvania/Ohio to win. Not easy
