Is I-State a serious threat @ Kinnick or does HCKF empty the bench during the 4Q?

A lot of it depends on turnovers and if they can hang around past halftime. If so, it can be a dogfight. We could easily get up 2-3 scores and crush their motivation though, then it's a done deal.

When playing us we always get their best...that's why its called an rivalry! Hard to tell from one game how well they match up. What we know is that the receivers are good and they have a quality RB. Will be interesting game!

I'm looking at the possibility that Iowa State wins the Big 12 this season...
keep in mind, in 2009, Iowa almost lost to Northern Iowa...

Iowa State losing to Northern Iowa is not as bad as some folks might make it out to be.
plus the Big 12 ain't that good at the top... not like the B1G.

teams almost always make their biggest improvement, team wise, from Week 1 to Week 2.

by all accounts, Adam Sandler (or whatever his name is) is an outstanding Head Coach... I fully expect tremendous overall improvement as well as a well devised Game Plan.

should be interesting tomorrow night.

There have only been 2 games in the Ferentz era in which Iowa won by a blowout.
The last big Iowa win was 6 years ago.

This is likely a game decided by less than 2 TDs.

I agree with this. If this one is tight at half I'll be nervous. They gain confidence, our crowds concern starts rubbing off on the players. We've got to come out ready to dominate. Dare I say playing aggressively.

I'm in agreement. ISU certainly cannot lose a thing tomorrow night. If they get beat by 50, everybody will shrug and say "yeah, that team sucks". Given that, and knowing where his bread is buttered, Matt Campbell will be playing to win and taking plenty of calculated risks. I hope Iowa is prepared for this and comes out angry about 2014.

I NEVER feel good going into an ISU game.

A couple turnovers and a decent game by Lazard, you just never know.

I am assuming you are calling you local bookmaker and putting the house on ISU

Then you should be making a huge wager on the Cyclones

BTN told the stat yesterday on air further reminding us of how ISU plays out of their minds in this game: In KF's tenure, ISU is 9-8. There only other winning record vs another school during that time span is against KU. 17 years, that's a large sample size. Ouch!

You are correct about the lack of pressure. Losing to UNI removed any that might have been there previously. :(

It's a road game at the #10 team in the country. Hard to see how even a blowout would be that huge a deal -- although obviously it would smart badly among the fandom. However, I doubt that will seriously affect the game plan.

I don't think ISU is as bad as it looked Saturday. Those mistakes were just ridiculous. And UNI -- if you believe the "power ratings" -- is considerably better than Miami (O). On the other hand, I watched the first half of the Iowa game Saturday, which was enough to make me realize that the final score, and especially the statistics, are meaningless.

I think ISU has enough weapons to make it a competitive game. Which is NOT the same as predicting the game will be competitive. It's just that I wouldn't be shocked if it were.

Agree with other posters. Turnovers, turnover, turnovers. The way Iowa plays the game so close to the vest, turnovers will likely be the key to this game. Don't think ISU is as bad as they looked against UNI. And it's a lot easier to be the underdog in this situation. No pressure, no expectations. That's the formula for what would be a very big upset.

I honestly go into this game not knowing what to expect. I really believe Iowa should thump them, reality, the game rarely plays out like I expect it should.

I haven't seen any of the ISU/UNI "highlights", but I believe ISU is better than what I've heard. And although I don't know whether UNI is better than MiamiOH, I could believe the two would play a competitive game.

About the Iowa first half though - MiamiOH moved the ball and made some awfully sloppy mistakes (not sure I can call a QB sack fumble sloppy, but)... I do agree Iowa's running game looked pretty great against MiamiOH though. But had Iowa not been gifted the McCarron replay being over-turned and a MiamiOH turnover here and there, that game would have been much tighter. I cannot describe to you how bad Greg Mabin looked in coverage - MiamiOH picked on him all afternoon. Our row was almost laughing about it by the third Q.

Campbell has no downside in this game. He can literally win in so many ways, and lose in no way:
* In state recruiting
* Thrill the fan base
* Prove that games against ranked B12 opponents aren't scary either

The storm may not be coming tomorrow, but it's coming...soon. Matt Campbell was one fine coach at Toledo, refitting and refueling the Rockets. Remember K-State before Bill Snyder? (Man, were we privileged to have him coach the Hawks so long and so well!) If Matt says, he might be able to create a similar legacy.

Ask Phil Parker about the level of competition at Toledo. When my father was the line coach and then head football coach there in the pre-Frank Lauterbur era, his conference colleagues included Ara Parseghian (It was a rough stretch, finishing under .500). The Toledo program gave us Nick Saban, and the MAC also gave us Urban and Woody and Bo...and Matt.

Remember, last year's Toledo team went 10-2, rose as high as #19 in the AP poll, and beat #21 Temple in the Boca Raton Bowl. The dude can flat out coach.

This won't be a walk-over, and it will get a little tougher each year in the Matt Campbell era...until he leaves for greener (or asphalt) pastures.

But we'll get 'em this year. We'll use some 2's and 3's before the fourth quarter; but it won't be because we are way ahead- it will be because they are quality players, contributing, doing their jobs and bringing fresh energy that we need.

Go Hawks.

Maybe it's a close game if Iowa is up 10-0 and Beathard does a naked bootleg in the end zone and gets hurt and Stanley has to play the next 3 quarters. I was at the game at Kinnick 2 years ago though when hawks were 13 point favorites and lost.

That's the problem in these games. ISU has nothing to lose and therefore takes lots of risks, agressive blitzing, downfield plays, whereas the Hawks play close to the vest offense and defense. That sets up the possibility for an upset or a blowout. I just hope we can run the ball down their throat today and keep their offense, with Warren and Lazard, off the field.

The Vegas line means absolutely nothing in this game,I believe the hawkeyes will be extremely focused and the price of the ticket is worth watching King Vs Lazzard.Jewell is back,I don't believe Iowa State has good outside contain and Iowa will expose that weakness.I watched the replay of the cyclones/panthers game and the offensive line is like Swiss cheese which is great on a ham sandwich but not when it refers to your offensive line.Iowa wins by the score of 24-7!

Wake me up when this great coach named Matt Campbell shows up.
ISU was one of the worst coached teams I have ever seen.
