Returning champs most/least likely to win

86 I respect your opinion, but the healthcare part of why I dislike that particular politician is low on a very long list And she does not deserve our respect to even discuss her.
this is my last post on this subject until this season is completed.
Fair enough. Go Hawks! And me too, in terms of last post on the subject.

Most:
1. Steveson
2. Ferrari
3. Spencer
4. Yianni
Least:
1. Nicky
2. AOC
3. Griffith
4. Starocci

It is interesting that Ferrari doesn't make anyone's least or best list.
I think there's an easier selection for both most and least. Personally I think AJ gets by on his brute strength more than most, but it worked during last year's NCAA's. It'd be nice to see him lose to Warner at Globe Life and even nicer during the tourney, but one match at a time...

Most likely
1. Steveson
2. Yianni
3. Lee
4. Ferrari
Can't pull the trigger on brooks because there is way too much talent at the weight) and carr has never beat deakin in folk, and he almost lost to Robb, and he has a returning national champ at the weight
Least likely
1. O'Connor
2. Nick lee
3. Griffith
4. Starocci

Dub, I’m not getting into a political debate on here, but She is horrible and just one of many unqualified, corrupt ,irresponsible politicians that are trashing our country. If you think they are doing a good job then keep voting that way, but I warn you One thing is constant “you reap what you sow”
not saying anything about her beliefs, but she’s no less qualified than her peers. most of the people in congress are just the kids of rich parents who had the money and connections to bankroll their first campaigns. a good portion of them haven’t had an honest days work their whole lives. at least she’s worked for a living. “qualified” has very little to do with being a united states legislator lol

She is as clueless as the rest of them and maybe more. One of her biggest problem is she cannot conceal her cluelessness. - the crazy thing is that her supporters don't care. Go figure???

I agree with the statement about who is in congress and the senate. It is definitely a case of who you know and who you are and not what you know and what you are, that gets you elected. Because only certain people are even given the chance to run for election.

It is no wonder that people throughout time have hated politicians. If anyone can figure out a way to run a country without politicians, they would be my instant hero. :)

Do you think she’s more clueless than Donald Trump?

i don’t get the obsession with her. she’s a moderate within the context of western politics. to each his own i guess

Agree, he keeps matches close against good opponents. Good recipe to take a loss. Should be #1 until it happens tho

Correct…and it’s going to burn him. Like the car, he looks flashy but does not dominate physically. Has just enough physicality and caginess to win big ones via dropping down to a leg when on top and to get that TD when he absolutely needs it. For all of the hype (self and others) you’d think he would be exciting to watch but in his NCAA wins, he had one TF and 4 close decisions. Perhaps he has made the leap this year.

they were close on the scoreboard but he was never threatened in any of them. warner wrestled him the closest and it felt like they could wrestle 100 times and warner wouldn’t take him down. just my opinion tho

Tommy doesn’t usually discuss injuries. I think SL should consider redshirting and getting healthy. Maybe get bionic ACL’s?

If Bull, Max and Assad all step up, we might not need SL’s points this year. Especially if they can get any points out of 125.
Huh?

I don't mean to be a Debbie-downer, but if Lee doesn't win it all I think our chances take a big hit. We are barely ahead in points in the rankings as is and that's with the Bull at #1, and sadly his NCAA tournaments just don't go well (hoping this year will be his). Not sure how far you see Assad stepping up since he's healthy and wrestling in the additional matches. No matter where he steps too, I can't see him finishing on the podium.

I think we're going to need the Bull, Kemerer, Jaydin, and Spencer in the top 3, with at least 1-2 of them winning it all, and then still need Young, Murin, Cass, Warner and ADS to finish on the podium, with at least a couple of them in the top 3-5. This is going to be a battle with PSU and I'm thinking Carl and company still have a trick or two up there sleeves which will add to their current arsenal. Just my thoughts. I would love to see 10 AAs, but with PSU's talent and their ability to make things happen on the big stage, I think we're going to need at least 9 AAs, with 6 of them in the top 3-4. And we're going to need bonus points. We need to focus on TFs and MDs, and then take a fall if/when possible; our hammers cannot settle for DECs in the first couple rounds.

Hey, Debbie Dee… lol

We could have three champs, three thirds and a few pleasant surprises put us over the top. Without SL.

The best proven recipe is to beat your closest competition head to head when the opportunity presents itself and widen the gap. We havent been too great at that in quite some time it seems.

So true. We just don’t seem to beat them when it’s all on the line. Hopefully 141, 65 and 74 are different this year! :)

Three champs without Lee would be very very impressive!! And 3 and 3 without Lee would be the thing of dreams!! And yes, I think if we got 3 and 3 with some additional surprises we could win without SL

Love the optimism. But in the last ten years we’ve had four National Champions not named Spencer Lee, so I have a hard time envisioning us getting three this year alone.

I think it's optimistic, but we do have four #1 seeds returning. In the last ten seasons we have rarely had a single number #1 seed.

Agreed, the kid is stout and he has his top game down to an Okie State science, knows how to work it exactly to stall his but off but never get called.

Or at least three in the finals, three wrestling for third and a couple more AA’s. That should put us in the drivers seat.

if we’re basing all of our hopes for a championship on one athlete’s shoulders, that could be problematic.

agree. he’s actually one of the best grinders and mat technicians in the country. people call him flashy all the time, but that’s only because of his persona. on the mat, he’s one of the least flashy wrestlers in the country. extremely disciplined positioning, basic clean shots and finishes, stingy top wrestling, and good conditioning. great poise and confidence in close matches as well. he never panics or forces anything. he wrestles well beyond his years.

Most likely would be Lee and Steveson for being at a level we haven't seen since who knows when. Then Yianni and Brooks because 149 and 184 don't have a #2 to challenge them.

Least likely would be O'Connor. If he drops back to 149 he still won't win, but he might place higher. Then I'd go with Griffith because I'm a big Iowa fan and can't believe Marinelli blunders again despite the track record. After that, I think 133, 141, and 174 are all weights where you have to flip a coin to decide the winner at this point. Ferrari's close matches may also hurt him come nationals. But to pick two, I'll go with Lewis and RBY to join O'Connor and Griffith on the least likely list.

Pipe down, Artie. You’re gonna scare the fish away. Lol

1. Steveson (sorry, but he is the p4p best in college atm and nobody is close to him)
2. Brooks (84 is weaker than some other weights)
3. S. Lee (knees are the only things that make this a question imo. Glory and Vito are good (if Vito is 125) but I don't think they can beat a healthy spencer unless they get him on his back somehow)
4. Yianni (up a weight, we will see..)
5. N. Lee (just think he is the best of the field. I don't think he loses another college match but there are obviously some hammers at 141)
6. Starrocci (kemmer is a big hurdle, some other decent guys as well but I don't see anyone other than star and kem wrestling Saturday night)
7. Ferrari (too focused on his Instagram. Jk, he's tough but he was right there with several guys. Will definitely he a competitive weight imo)
8. RBY (good but there are multiple land mines here in Fix, desanto and possibly vito?)
9. Carr (could be wrong here just think this will be a competitive weight with lots of solid guys)
10. Griffith, Lewis. Stacked weights, not much else to say for these 2.

We're not basing it "all" on Lee, but during his last 3 NCAAs he's averaged just over 25 points (27, 24.5, 24.5). And last year we beat PSU by 15.5. Problematic or not, if Lee doesn't go I think our chances of beating PSU went from 55-45 to 30-70. Lee is the leader of this team and we need him to kick ass at NCAAs if we're going to win it all. Just my two cents.

Then we need to start bringing onboard more highly ranked kids.

Maybe worry more about ability on mat than other factors that seem to drive our recruiting.

I'm right there with you, brother. I was hoping Spencer Lee and the dominance these past couple year would bring in better hammers, but such is not the case. We've got a couple such as PK, but once this season is over I see us fighting for individual awards more than team championships. Clearly we should have the fire power to fight for top 3-5, but something magical is going to have to happen for us to compete for the championship for the foreseeable future once this class graduates. That said, it's been fun watching this group!!!

I would have liked to have seen them go “all in,” on top recruits at 149 and 157 in the last four years.

We seem to always like our guys and there are always cesspool rumors of why those who went elsewhere weren’t good fits for the program. But those studs seem to fit in elsewhere fine, for the most part.

Iowa's cupboard is far from bare. We return half the lineup and then likely insert Ayala, Schreiver and Kennedy. Ayala and Schreiver aren't likely to gather the points of a Lee and DeSanto, but they'll be solid IMO. We won't likely be the favorites, but we'll be in the mix.

The Bull has obviously not been a big scorer at Nationals, so Kennedy there is likely an upgrade as far as NCAA's go, and he sure looks to be a full tilt destroyer. Hope The Bull gets his just rewards this year, the guy has been a warrior for this Program.

This. I think Henson will step in at 141 nicely and Brands will man 174 when Kem leaves. They will fall off on points from this year, but will still have a very solid lineup top to bottom. We need to make hay this year while we have the horses though!

I completely concur WRT Kennedy! Can't wait to see him on the big stage here in a few weeks. And I concur that the cupboard is certainly not bare, but I'm hoping we can do some transfer portal work to bring us up even farther. It would be great to see us ultra-competitive every year like the good old days. And while I certainly respect the Cael and the fellas who wrestle for him, I fricking hate losing to PSU!!

The

Being realistic, we might return half our starters, but a pretty small percentage of our points.
