ROY - WNBA

It is so unbelievably stupid. not giving them any clicks.
Exactly. It’s clickbait.

I’m watching the Fever - Sky game tonight and it’s pretty apparent who the better player is and it’s not particularly close. Naming Reese ROY would be comparable to Rodman winning MVP during his time in the NBA. She’s a good rebounder and that’s it. Like Rodman, she has zero offensive game.

Been saying this all year. It's not even a put down. Rodman was great at what he did but he was never put in the same zipcode as the greats of the game.

I almost feel sorry for AR that she has been cast by the media as the Anti Caitlin. She's not even the best player on her own team.

On the other hand...reap it! She initiated it, but Caitlin has absolutely owned her since then.
I'm just looking forward to the mental gymnastics that's sure to come from Monica McNutt and AirSwoopes and Dawn Staley and others justifying why they think Reese still deserves RotY. Going to be glorious.

I kinda went off the cliff in my post over riding easy's Candance Parkers stats as the benchmark for rookie's comparison.

But to put things in some perspective, and the reason I drew attention to the fact Parker was a forward, there has been 2 guard WNBA MVPs , Tauarsi and Cooper. Guard is the least recognized and appreciated position in basketball. Clark is a master at rewarding other positions. She just can't help drawing the spotlight towards her.

Guards is the most difficult skill level with a rate of risk with a correlating risk of error, an effective formula for successful programs. A guard like Caitlin Clark doesn't sit on the bench after her 4th turnover in the midway through the 4th quarter.

ESPN has an updated rookie tracker this morning. You guessed it, they still have Reese #1.

There isn’t one GM in the WNBA that would pick Reese over Clark if they were able to have one of them on their team.

ESPN looking for clicks and angry comments. It’s a $$ thing for them.

For about everyone but ESPN the race for ROY is over.

The guy who makes the rookie rankings is a math geek who uses this cumulative “advanced stats” formula. It’s less about clicks and more about an absolutely broken formula that over emphasizes offensive rebounds and turnovers. It also makes the term “advanced stats” look like a joke, when Caitlin is leading in all the more important traditional stats, including in the standings. Speaking of, thank you for your ROTY vote, Monica McNutt.

I never thought about that, a tip towards the rim being counted as a rebound. But the flip side is that's also counted as a shot attempt ... right?
I've never paid any attention to how stats were marked until this whole CC/AR thing, lol.
The problem was, Reese’s didn’t tip it, the defender did.

I like how a “make a wish” moment turned into a Reese’s candy promotion, or maybe I am being too cynical. Please advise and I will gladly et the keyboard down for a 5 days.

That’s freaking hilarious and also 100% true. There is no comparison between the two. Zero.
The guy at the end said the comparison. “I’m being biased.” That’s it, that is the only way to make a comparison.

The closest thing I can think of would be giving the 1985 ROY to Hakeem instead of Jordan. Except Hakeem was a future MVP and didn’t have massive holes in his game as a rookie, except possibly FT%.

Yes. I've seen every team vs Clark and imo Chicago Sky is far and away the biggest thug operation in professional basketball. Men or women. I can't think of one NBA team today that plays w/ a thug mentality. Not since the late 80's and the Pistons. Deshields, Kennedy, Reese.

You must have missed the 90s Knicks and then the Heat.
But yeah, it’s been 20 years since the NBA had a team plying abusive defense.

And they won’t stop until the league does something about it.

I think the league should fine DeShields and suspend her a game for just trucking Caitlin. That’s not a basketball play. The very best case one can make is that it was incidental but with the context of the previous few series and fouls from DeShields on Clark we all know it was intentional.

Total horseshit that play gets a pass by this league.

Watch the replay, and the look on her face. As she hits Clark, she has a big smile on her face. It was not accidental...

I think we all know now that the thoughts carried by Mrs. Swoops are fairly widespread and go high up including the WNBA offices, powerful decision-makers, and in certain ESPN offices. And of course amongst a certain population of players including the current best player.

This debate, if it is even worthy of being called a debate, has become tedious. If it's that important to some that Angel Reese be considered in the same light as Caitlin and she therefore she deserves to be ROY (even co-ROY), then do it. Just give it to Angel Reese. Caitlin would congratulate her, say what a great competitor she is, and move on. It won't define Caitlin one way or the other. It won't change the minds of people either. No one will say, I thought it was Caitlin, but I guess Angel Reese is the best rookie this year because she won the award that says she is.
