ROY - WNBA

Just to clarify, the WNBA uses two year W/L record to determine the odds of winning 1st pick lottery. Washington is right with LA.
Chicago can tank and end up outside top 4.

Atlanta is healthy now and playing well. They got Rhyne Howard and Jordin Canada back after the break and beat CT and Sea over the weekend. Chicago might not have to tank and they could still end up in the lottery.

Watching Clark and Reese is watching two players on different levels. The expectations when watching Clark is that you’re watching one of the best players in the history of the league. When watching Reese you just wonder if she will squeak out 10 points to get a double double. There shouldn’t even be a discussion anymore about ROTY.
There isn't a discussion. Caitlin has it in the bag and any rational person knows that. It's just a weird shadow conversation happening on social media like this thread.

It is crazy. Cordoso was #3 overall in the draft. Letting that size and better shooting go to waste makes zero sense. It does seem like she's coddling AR's ego and like Hawksbyamillion said, motivated to promote AR for ROY. Hopefully that ship has sailed and CC will have it locked up, but I doubt that Weatherspoon is going to change.

I sometimes wonder what the Fever might do with a true center like Cordoso, but I'm not sure that Boston is best as a power forward. I think she's pretty effective in the post so a true center may not fit into the scheme.
They will need someone that can run and I think Boston is mobile enough to do that effectively. She's still learning and adjusting but she is so much better than she was at the beginning of the season with how she needs to play. She needs to get more reliable with a mid-range shot but that would probably be true no matter what kind of offense they were playing.

True, I think teams could do more to box her out. However, as much as I don't like AR the person, I can't deny that she is a ferocious rebounder. She has power that isn't common in the wnba it seems, so it would probably be harder to shut down her rebounding than we might think. Whenever I see a clip of her and another post player colliding when going up for a board, it is almost always the other player's body that is moved out of the way. She's a force. Still can't stand her.
Well said. People don't have to denigrate Reese to recognize Caitlin's greatness.

It's more than that. It's the W reporters and ESPN talking heads covering the W.

This. It is the W reporters and ESPN talking heads, plus also influential women's greats like Dawn Staley and Sheryl Swoopes, basketball stars like JuJu Watkins, and many more. It isn't some social media thing alone.

They are saying it because they know that people will retweet it. No one actually believes it. The product is outrage and this forum is the target market. Keep buying, I guess!

Since you have all of the answers, who comprises the ROY voters and what are their current individual stances on the issue?

I don't know shit. I just know what the results will be because I have eyes and I don't believe in The Great Conspiracy. You can feel free to blast me off this board if I'm wrong. But I won't be.

I think she’s well earned & deserves all of the criticism in her game when being compared to Clark.

She’s the one that has tried to hitch her wagon to the GOAT.

Smart move by Trashy Reese because without her forcing her way into Clark’s world nobody would be talking about her or know who she is.

So don’t feel bad when people knock her game as compared to Clark.

She made her career riding off of Caitlin’s coattails & when you do that the facts about how weak your game is comes with the territory!

I am no Reese apologist nor great fan, but comparison is the thief of joy. I think she made her career off winning a national championship. None of that takes away from Caitlin's greatness.

She didn’t.

You know it too. She made her career from taunting the GOAT.

What’s funny is 5 years from now til the rest of time all people will think they remember is that Caitlin won the Natty’s.

Although wrong, the legend will grow.

Reese supporters will throw out that game all the time, but they seem to forget the game the following year.

Your take is suspect but I gave you a "like" for the "comparison is the thief of joy" quote.

Great quote. Mr. Google tells me the ol' Rough Rider himself, Teddy R, coined this bit of wisdom.

And they seem to forget that while CC was clearly the best player on the court, Reese wasn't even the best player on her team that game. LSU didn't win that game because of Angel Reese, they won because of the freshman who came off the bench and had the game of her life, and they won because they shot 65% from 3 pt range that game even though they shot 32% from 3 pt range for the season. Congrats to them, but Reese had nothing to do with that. Yet she pointed at her ring finger so everyone put the attention on her.

You are making stuff up. Literally everybody knows that Caitlin is better than Reese and Reese acted like a complete snot in 2023. Reese is still a phenomenal talent/entertainer and deserves to be recognized as such.

Both things can be true.

What in that post is made up? Reese scored 15 pts and had 10 rebs. Nice game but three other LSU players had 20+ points that game. And yes, LSU shot 65% from 3 even though they barely shot 30% for the season. Sorry, just playing with facts.

You are making up the notion that people forget that Caitlin Clark was better than Angel Reese. Everyone knows that Caitlin Clark was, is and will be better than Angel Reese except people who like to get crazy Iowa fans riled up.

Actually, weren't you?

The player who had the game of her life was a 5th year transfer player from West Virginia.

Also, the person you're arguing with essentially agrees with you.

I, on the other hand, do not. Many folks are disparaging Angel Reese as if she were a "trash person" ... and they mainly point at here taunting as evidence. However, the same fans seem to turn a blind eye to all the taunting that Caitlin had done here self ... one of the more famous being her taunting of Van Lith. Seriously, Hawk fans have a big-old double standard. The fact of the matter is that both Clark and Reese are intensely competitive ladies ... both talented in their own rights.

Of course, that said ... Clark has a scoring record that might be hard to touch. Ju Ju might be able to do it ... but it won't be easy. For now ... it's probably safe to say that Caitlin is the collegiate GOAT ... of course, many UConn fans might disagree (they like to tout Stewie).

I never disparaged Reese as a "trash person." You should have your facts straight before accusing people of saying things they never said.

Oh FFS, anybody with a brain can see the difference between competitive trash talk during a game and the level of post game taunting that Angel Reese did instead of celebrating with teammates after winning a national title. They aren't remotely in the same universe. But what makes her trash barbie is stuff like wildly cheering a dead ball cheapshot by her teammate against an opponent, bringing a crown to the court in LSU's rematch against the Hawks this year, etc.

Factually Reese did NOTHING to win that championship game. If she hadn't got in foul trouble the chick with the orange afro doesn't come in and drop 8 three's on us, or whatever it was. (Funny thing was that gal hadn't scored a point in the tourney up until then). Reese was an after thought in the game, until the last two minutes where at the free throw line next to Clark, she decided to show the world just who she was..

Cmon, ghost, your better the that. Its been discussed at length, (and confirmed by HVL herself) that it never happened. Clark was 30 ft away and made that gesture at the conditioning coach, (who was on the Iowa bench) to say "they can't see me". She did NOT taunt HVL. It didn't happen. She was facing the other way going to her bench, and didn't know anything about it, until someone told her about seeing it on social media. She and CC laughed about it later. That has no connection to what Reese did to Clark, (at the free throw line where you could see her mouth the words "hey BITCH", and then the gesture, and then she followed Cc around the court as Clark tried turning away from her THREE times with the gesture and then pointing to her ring finger. If it was a guy she probably gets punched in the face. The media and countless people of color jumped on this to further their own agenda, FACTS be damned. I was really disappointed in some like Kareem Abdul Jabbar who have a voice in that community who weighed in right away, and had ZERO idea the context of what had actually happened.
