ROY - WNBA

I also noticed that when Taurasi was T'd up in the Sky game, they had Angel shoot the FT. Is it just me, or is that weird? I don't see how she could be the best FT shooter on the floor for them at any given time. It's like their coach is doing everything she can to try propping her up stats wise.
Yep, said that earlier. "Spoon" has been an enabler during this whole process. That parts a plus for the Fever because its not helping the Sky win games or build chemistry for their team.

You have to wonder if coaching decisions like having your worst free throw shooter shoot technical fouls, just so she can get a very meaningless double double, is one of the reasons their floor general, Marian Mabrey, demanded to be traded last month.

Remember also last month, when Angel was a point short of a double/double, and demanding the ball in the paint, at the conclusion of a game that had already been decided, and her teammates wouldn’t pass her the ball.

Those two above items tell me a little about the Sky’s chemistry with Angle Reese on the team.

If I were Cardoso I'd have had enough of it already. She clearly outplayed Reese yesterday, had a double-double of her own with a better line of stats, yet most headlines were about Angel getting her double-double. Gotta be wearing thin.

Watching Clark and Reese is watching two players on different levels. The expectations when watching Clark is that you’re watching one of the best players in the history of the league. When watching Reese you just wonder if she will squeak out 10 points to get a double double. There shouldn’t even be a discussion anymore about ROTY.

I know I’m a homer but for me, it’s kind of like when I was a kid watching Bo Jackson, just never knowing what you were going to witness.

It’s like watching all the greats…Jackson, Mahomes, Bird, Magic, Barry Sanders….whereas the only thing people watch Reese for is to see 10 and 10 (and it’s usually an ugly trip getting there). Reese is a glorified role player…she’s there for rebounding and that’s about it.

There is no ROY race. Anyone who thinks Reese should win has an agenda whatever that may be.
Not so fast…Reese has 10 rebounds and 6 points at halftime….don’t think the argument is going to go away (even though it should)….Clark is going to need to have a monster game when they play the Sun and they need to win for this to finally be put to bed.

Reese has 17 boards and 15 points with a quarter to go. Looks like Reese is on her way to a 20 pt 20 rebound game. Nice game for her, but they are once again getting hammered by the Mercury.

I have to imagine that Cordoso would have to be getting sick of the situation in Chicago. She is 6-7 in FG's, but has only played half the minutes that Reese has. With that kind of efficiency, crazy that she doesn't get more minutes.

She’s at 19 and 19 (the all time record is 24) now and they’re only down 13.

Every time a stat line like this pops up all you need to do is watch about 5 minutes of a Fever game to see that it's not just stats, but Clark changes the entire game when she is in there. Reese gets rebounds and occasionally puts up some points. She doesn't change the flow or dynamic of the game by just being on the floor. Any other year and Reese would have an excellent case for ROY (although it wouldn't be a given). However this year, it's no contest. Clark keeps doing this and she's going to be in serious discussions for MVP, especially if the Fever make a deep playoff run.

Just mentioned this in the Caitlin thread before seeing your post. Crazy part is Kamilla took over last game and they won. I thought for sure they’d start giving her more minutes. Nope. Think maybe Weatherspoon doesn’t want to have to upset Reese’s ego?

No, I think her hate for Caitlin is a bigger driving force than wanting her team to win. Her, Reeve, & Swoopes only care about Caitlin not getting ROTY.

It is crazy. Cordoso was #3 overall in the draft. Letting that size and better shooting go to waste makes zero sense. It does seem like she's coddling AR's ego and like Hawksbyamillion said, motivated to promote AR for ROY. Hopefully that ship has sailed and CC will have it locked up, but I doubt that Weatherspoon is going to change.

I sometimes wonder what the Fever might do with a true center like Cordoso, but I'm not sure that Boston is best as a power forward. I think she's pretty effective in the post so a true center may not fit into the scheme.

It’s a little conspiracy-theorist…but it makes me wonder if there aren’t “other” (relationship) reasons that Angel is so favored by her coach…

It would good like it did with jonquel (spelling?) jones in the all star game. Jones at the 5, Boston at the 4, Caitlin at the 1, and go from there. Hell, with this roster, I think adding jones to the fever would make them instant contenders for the title.

I think you can make a case for Caitlin being the #3 player in the league right now, behind Wilson and Stewart.

If teams focused on boxing, her out like they focused on double and triple teaming Clark Reese would be a nobody.

True, I think teams could do more to box her out. However, as much as I don't like AR the person, I can't deny that she is a ferocious rebounder. She has power that isn't common in the wnba it seems, so it would probably be harder to shut down her rebounding than we might think. Whenever I see a clip of her and another post player colliding when going up for a board, it is almost always the other player's body that is moved out of the way. She's a force. Still can't stand her.

Why teams don’t play a zone against the Sky is beyond me. They’re the worst perimeter shooting team in the league and they have two bigs that can rebound. Pack in a zone and keep them off the boards and make them beat you from outside. Middle school coaches could figure that out.

I keep hearing about Wilson having the greatest season ever, yet the Aces are in fourth place and are way worse than they were last year. I get Gray is hurt, but if you’re the best player in the league, you should be able to overcome that with the rest of the talent they have. I’m not sure Wilson should be anointed the MVP already.

I’m shocked that Cardosa only played 15 minutes last night…she played 28 the game before. Not sure what they were doing, but it obviously didn’t work.
They're tanking.

It's a race between them and the Sparks to secure the best chance in the lottery to win the Paige Beuckers sweepstakes.

Which, btw, Beuckers going to Chicago would be god damn f***ing obnoxious.

I could live with her going to the Sparks, but if there's any hint of Chicago, and the league, actively trying to set up the Sky to get the #1 pick so they can keep manufacturing drama between Clark and her "rivals" I'm calling bull sh**.

Just to clarify, the WNBA uses two year W/L record to determine the odds of winning 1st pick lottery. Washington is right with LA.
Chicago can tank and end up outside top 4.

If I'm the league and rigging the lottery, I'm sending Beuckers to LA with Brink and Jackson.
