Saudi blood money golf field announced

Tiger is”old” for golf and he is damaged goods for ever. Back off, Aardvark. You could only hope to be as successful as Tiger in your chosen profession.Sometimes the best path is to say nothing at all.
Money has warped any and all value systems more than any other factor on earth. What amazes me more than anything Aardvark, is that TO A MAN, these players signed an agreement to not work/ compete against the PGA Tour but now since a Bunch of money has been thrown into the mix, this agreement means nothing? And no one thinks this is not worth discussing?
Phuquin’ typical of what has gone wrong in America in my lifetime...morals and ethics don’t matter if there is enough money involved. Too many people are spineless, gutless and shallow.
At 11:07 AM CDT on July 15, 2022, Joel and I agreed on something.

We’re discussing jurisdiction.
Should these contracts be an issue for a state court, or the federal court?
Point is the DP World Tour is the European tour. How does the United States DOJ have jurisdiction over the DP World Tour? Next the DOJ needs to look into the anti-trust activities of the Premier League or Bundesliga.

Didn’t the DOJ go after FIFA?
I don’t follow soccer close, but weren’t there just fresh headlines on that?

I don’t think the U.S. recognizes much in the way of limits on what they’ll investigate and try or prosecute.

After 40+ years of “profits over principles” and “Jesus capitalism” becoming mainstream and ignoring the general welfare of human beings in the name of money, can LIV golf and it’s ultimate success be a surprise? In a few years this will pass as it should because it is always going to be about “the money”…Adterall, we have decided that the primary purpose of college is to field (and fund) athletic teams! LIV golf is a sport who’s time has arrived.
If temps keep climbing world-wide, we will all be living in the desert any way. Food and water will become commodities but we have chosen our priorities. Profits first.

Do these guys get that money up front in a lump sum or is it spread out over so many years?

I think I heard up front for many of the contracts.
There was an article in Golf Digest talking about the money. The agents seem to be the ones pushing hard as they get a cut of the up-front money. So a huge payday.

The caddies love LIV for the guaranteed pay and one less round to carry a bag. On top of that, if their player wins, they get 10% of $4M? 😳

My prediction is the PGA has screwed itself. As long as the Saudis keep the money flowing more and more players will sign up.

So what happens if the Saudis just ‘buy’ every major winner for the next few years?
I refuse to watch LIV golf. These guys will just be dead to me. I have no problem, and actually really enjoy, watching the Korn Ferry Tour because those guys are grinding it out and you can feel the pressure. I like watching the LPGA because those professional girls game most replicates my game given their swing speeds. I like watching the Seniors for the same reasons.

Even if the PGA loses these guys I'll still watch it.

Why would you not join the LIV tour if you had the chance, $100m pay days, get flown around the world for free on this plane.
I wish they all turned it down but it’s hard to imagine doing so if you put yourself in their shoes. Plus there’s probably a feeling that the first ones in get the biggest haul so you have to jump now.

The only reason to stay would be to have your name associated with Nicklaus and Woods and Palmer and all the history and tradition, vs. MBS and Norman and 54 hole gimmicky golf tournaments.

I don't believe this simply because $90 million is way too low of a figure for this guy. Plus, he's a different sort of cat. Down to earth guy, likes to fish and mow his own lawn. Just doesn't strike me as the LIV type, however, he is an Aussie so I am guessing he holds Greg Norman in some regard.
I’m somewhat of this mind, but I also see how much he could make if he won events on LIV.

The Saudi govt is subsidizing LIV with enormous resources. No different than the Chinese govt subsidizing steel and solar panels.
The DOJ needs to investigate LIV for unfair business practices.

Because I am already a millionaire several times over. I make $20 million a year just in endorsements. I play golf for a living. My reputation is important to me. Look at Phil's future endorsement career, it's been destroyed. Arnold Palmer made more money endorsing products than any athlete ever up until he died.

What would be important to me is I wouldn't want to be the guy that contributed to destroying the game of golf.

For all the crap the PGA Tour has taken it is an organization that actually does give back to the game, promotes the game, organizes and holds tournaments for all age levels, amateurs, disabled golfers, donates money to charities, etc.

Do any of you see LIV doing any of that? Do any of you see LIV doing anything to grow and foster the game from its grass roots? Does LIV have a turf management program that is researching and assisting golf courses? Courses that you and I play on. Hell no. LIV is all about money. They are buying the top of the game. Taking there's and F everybody else. F the future of the game. I will not watch LIV. I will not support it in any way.

I'll never watch a second of it. It's a carnival.

The LIV is disproportionately represented by foreign players. Smith would be an outlier in that he’s young and his best days may yet be ahead of him. He has a half billion in earnings ahead of him without going to the LIV.

What happens to these guys if they want to leave the LIV? I don’t see the Saudis being open to that happening. There’s no way these guys aren’t literally selling their souls by joining.

I agree, but what if he wrecks his back next year? I think that’s what a lot of guys are looking at. I can get guaranteed money now and never have to worry ever again about my future or providing for my family?

I won’t watch it either and think Greg Norman is the Steve Bannon of golf, but I do understand human nature and why some of these guys would make the jump.

What is the unfair practice? Paying more? And by the way, if you’re suggesting anticompetitive behavior, news flash: they’re not the monopolist incumbent. Nor is this an exported product where somehow a govt subsidy violates international free trade or similar standards.

Not so fast, my friend!

Everything this jabroni touches turns to shit and dies. So there is hope for LIV to fail still!

Well he's still an idiot, but I don't think that should stop people from capitalizing on what they think is a good opportunity for themselves.

I encourage anyone that is interested on this topic to watch the first 10 or so minutes of the Pat McAfee show today, he makes some really great points.

His “commitment” will be missed in the Ryder Cup, too. But, it was a conscious decision these lads made.
USA certainly doesn't need Patrick Reed. Nor want him if you polled the players would be my bet. Even before the LIV situation.

Who of the names you recognize is worried about providing for their family? Name one that couldn't do it if they had half a brain managing their previous winnings.

Doesn’t matter how much they have already made. These guys are calculating what they are going to make in the future, and for most of the guys who have gone to LIV, their high earnings days on the PGA Tour are over.

if I had 10 years left in my white collar career, and someone offered me a lump sum for 90% of that, I’d be dumb not to take it.

My pushback though is it is different than a white collar career. It is an entertainment career.

Going to LIV is the equivalent of quitting making albums and touring and instead setting up a residency in Vegas at some cheesy casino playing to bored gamblers and drunks night after night.

Sure, it's less stress and more money, but you have basically quit "the game."

That's why I think it's lame as hell.
