29-8, 8 matches to 2. Last year we lost 141, 157, 165.

125-Machine at work...almost hit the rinse cycle there
133-Gross is top 4 and a finalist without Clark there IMO
141-Topher looked real good...could have finished it at the end
149-Sorensen not hustling...made it closer than it was
157-Kemdawg-First match in front of a hostile crowd...Needs to shoot more
165-Hard nose match by Gunther
174-Alex just outplugged a decent opponent. Looked typical.
184-Sammy was fun to watch
197-Cash Money 184 wrestling 97 AA candidate. He wrestled him hard nosed and even took him down. That double was there all night with Rotert trying to hurry too much to get bonus. If he had enough matches, he could have gotten around him w/o getting body locked at the end.
HWY-Quick outside single to start the match. Did what he had to do to win. Stoll pins this kid.

Yes, there was too much stalling on our side. This was a game opponent in front of a big crowd and they were largely silent all night long. We netted +1 win from last year.

I didn't mind the Flo announcer. I thought he was going to be annoying because he was overly excited at the start of the dual. He got better at the match went on.

That 1st td Cash gave up was way, way too easy. He just stood there as Rotert grabbed his knee. That was a winnable match for Cash. That's the only thing I'm disappointed in, for this dual.

Currently trapped at the Iowa State dance competition. Can I get a list of match scores? Can't seem to find them anywhere.

IHeart and Flo are great and all, but I really could have used some PBP tonight. Vall, buddy, where are you when I need you, man?! Probably out playing basketball.

Sorensen win by DEC 9-5
Kemerer win by DEC 7-3
Gunther win by DEC 6-4
Meyer win by DEC 4-1
Brooks win by TF 20-5
Wilcke lose by DEC 9-5
Holloway win by DEC 3-2
Gilman win by TF 26-11
Laux lose by TF 15-0
Carton win by MDEC 12-1

Iowa wins 29-8

Didn't know you had that much spring in your step WDM. I bet hip hop is your category ;)

Good news, we aren't peaking in November. I'm seriously not concerned about Sorensen, Meyer, Brooks, and Gilman at all really. Not really concerned about Kemerer either. First road meet in a bee hive, got a solid workman like win 7-3. Just win baby. Nobody will care about a few controlled dec wins when he's on the upper tier of the AA stand.

Wilcke showed some real promise, he's quite good on his feet, very athletic. Undersized freshman vs #6 ranked JR and he took it right to him till the final whistle blew. It's not crazy to expect improvement throughout the season and see something like a R12, Low AA finish. Couldn't be a more perfect weight to improve at for us.

Carton was solid. Holloway got the W, good win.

This only guys that wrestled the iowa aggressive style were Brooks And gilman. A lot of stalling which was kind of embarrassing. Iowa wrestlers don't stall.

Thanks, Lax!

This dance competition is brutal. Still handing out awards. Ceremony is about 2 hours long and counting. Earning the dad card tonight!

Sounds like a pretty flat performance overall with a few bright spots. Surprised that Gross took Laux apart like he did. Figured Phil would score a little and keep it somewhat competitive. Bummer that things didn't work out for Seth and the Hawks.

I thought it was a good performance. We gutted out a couple of tough victories and got a dominant W in hostile territory.
I agree, SDSU is no pushover team that we will just cake walk over, it was a bee hive and they were ready to take it to us, thought the freshman in the lineup responded well, Kemerer, Gunther, Wilcke, and Holloway. That was my biggest takeaway from this.

Kind of a funny side story, my roommate who knows very little about wrestling, basketball player his whole life, was watching with me, and he was very impressed by Kemerer and Wilcke due to the fact that they're freshman getting tough in a hostile environment. After watching Gilman wrestle he said "I don't even know the other guys in his weight class, and I don't care about the quality of the guy he was going against... just the way he moves and goes after him, plus his attitude, he looks like a champion to me."

LOL, I feel for you WWDM, very painful memories of numerous marathon dance competitions. Making it through one of those can be the mental equivalent of finishing a triathalon without having trained for the event. Stay strong and brace yourself for next months VISA bill for the costumes.

I'm starting to really like me some Topher Carton. Kid is explosive and strong. And, he looks like he's gained confidence in his ability, so he looks faster out there.
Cash will be amazing at 84 next year. He's undersized for sure at 97, but he almost got that duck under at the last minute to beat a big 97 pounder in Rotert.
Props to Bono and SDSU. They were amped for this meet. That crowd looked like a lot of fun too. Great environment.

If Wilcke is our 84 next year who fills in at 97? Holloway doesn't look like he could make it very easily anymore, if at all.

I have to agree with respect to Holloway. 197 looks like it very well could be in the rear view mirror.

Holloway looked HUGE.
Looks like he is fully committing to heavy?
He looked as big as SDSU's heavy.
IDK who we get at 97. We'd have a full year to figure it out, but Wilcke should be down at 84 when Brooks leaves. He is just too good not to be at his ideal weight.

I agree, can't wait until Warner gets into the mix as well. 84 Wilcke, 97 Warner, and 285 Stoll will be a deadly trio to end the duals with.

I was also a big fan of the Flo announcer. Super knowledgeable guy with a ton of insight on what the wrestlers were doing technically.
Made me look at what the wrestler's were doing and appreciate it a lot more. Two Thumbs way up
Didn't catch the guys name, but I'm sure he was a former college wrestler.

I like him too, his name is Mike Malinconico, I've heard him before a few times announcing for various FLO events. He seems to really appreciate and pay more attention to the little subtleties of great technique than a lot of other announcers.

It's gotta be difficult doing the announcing by yourself. I liked that he was mentioning what people were saying on Twitter about the individual matches.

bowman and wilcke were close in their match, next year seems to have low expectations, I believe bowman would do just fine.

"Couples night out"

Good food, great friends and yet I wanted to be home listening to wrestling on the radio. I was sneaking glances on my phone for updates.

Perhaps this is a topic for a future thread "Times that my personal life interrupted being a wrestling fan".

Disappointing? Seriously? Win 8 out of 10 on the road with 2 backups wrestling and 4 first year starters (5 if you count Laux)? Not to mention, SDSU had this dual circled and was sky high for it yet only won the two matches where they had top 10 ranked guys - one of which they had to sweat out a bit.

So I guess I need a rational explanation on why it was disappointing. I didn't see it that way at all. Was impressed with Carton, Gunther and Holloway along with the other usual suspects. Wilcke was game as well. The most blah performer of the dual was Sorenson but he still won 9-5.

I thought it was a good performance. We gutted out a couple of tough victories and got a dominant W in hostile territory. Probably the toughest dual environment we will wrestle in this year other than Okie State.
I disagree about Okie State. It will be tough competition but not much of a tough environment. Okie State does a pathetic job of packing the auditorium; it's embarrassing even.

They might actually have had more people in the Rabbit Den than Okie State will have show up. Sad....really.

Sounds like a good title for a book... I think you got a real opportunity here! :D

This right here. SDSU was pumped and a well conditioned, well coached team. We did better than last year...even got a forfeit at 97 and it was closer last year. This, after losing one of our best guys (which probably hurt morale a bit?).

I didn't like to see Wilcke give up at the end of the match. I realize he was in a bad position and didn't want to risk giving up 6, but let the fur fly and go for the win. There was little risk of Iowa losing the dual at that point so why not take chance?

JT...when we ask for your opinion on Iowa wrestling, we'll give it to you.
No one really comes out and asks for yours on my board but you give it anyway. Now don't get me wrong, I'm glad you share your thoughts it gives me an outsiders perspective. Of course it helps to not be so sensitive when someone tells you something about your team that you don't really want to hear..

This is precious since BWI is arguably the most sensitive bunch of primadonnas in college wrestling. You tolerate very little opinion unless it's your own.

Last video of the morning from me. Bono post dual. Really comes across as a quality guy. Apparently, there must have been some talk that Clark was ducking Gross and he shot that down. "I know Tom Brands and Clark was hurt" and later "Clark is probably hurt"

My bike is calling. Enjoy the day.

That's the second "overrated" post today though with nothing to back it up...which I do on your board. I get it...you think the Hawks suck. Btw, if I post anything remotely negative about PSU, I get multiple comments back at me. And that's ok.

We beat a decent SDSU team 29-8, which is an improvement on last year even though we have six new starters, an 84 going at 97, and a 97 going at HWY (no Stoll)...with our second best guy out. If you take a look at SDSU'S 33, 49, 57, 65, 74, 97...you'll find that they are good and have beat some decent guys.

Would have liked to have seen more activity and shots from 49 and 74 but all in all, not bad for this time of year.
