Speaking of getting your nuts cracked. . . . We were at Valley tonight for the Valley-Ames basketball game. Guess who danced at halftime! You just can't make this stuff up.
True, 33. In all seriousness, this dance dad wouldn't have missed it for the world. But don't tell my wrestling buddies. . . .Guessing the Valley-Ames BB game was worth it too.... especially for the halftime show.
Christiansen just beat Lombardi at 182...Coach's kid is just a freshman.
That couldn't have been Rocky. He's a good sized 220 isn't he?
I'm guessing that was lil bro.
It is like that here too. I would guess out of 14 weights probably averaging 10 falls per dual. I think it is the result of specialization-the kids coming out of football, except for the exceptional athletes, dont stand a chance against someone who has been wrestling year-round.Is anyone else surprised at the number of mismatches in high school dual meets? Even between 2 solid programs like SEP and VAL there were only a few decent matches. When you consider it is almost the opposite at the college level it's interesting.
Probably some truth to that. Interestingly, and contrary to that trend, is Rocky Lombardi, Valley's heavyweight with 10 falls on the year, who's also a D1 QB headed to Michigan State. It is like that here too. That does happen for sure. Just not enough. I live in small town, where every kid that decides to concentrate on one sport hurts another, or maybe two. Most of these kids are not that type of athlete, no matter what their parents think, where they are going to be D1 athletes. As a fan, would rather see full teams, and contested matches more so than a bunch of falls and forfeits. Is that being greedy?Probably some truth to that. 14 matches. 7 falls. 1 Technical fall. 1 major decision. 5 decision (4-0, 7-2, 6-2, 5-3, 5-1). Looking at this it appears as having a lot of mismatches. I am sure there was a lot of excitement but one would hope that the #1 and #2 teams in 3A would be more competitive than this from top to bottom.Sure there were a few pins, but there was more than a few "decent" matches. SEP's 145 moved up to 152 which prevented a 1 vs. 2 match-up.

Yep. Grant is a great athlete. Also a very nice kid from a nice family. He's pretty tight with our daughter. . . in a platonic way.I know Grant Stotts plays football too, he had three INTs this year. Pretty impressive to play varsity football at school like Valley and be the #1 ranked 145 pounder

That is pretty impressive at his size that's he's able to play on the Valley Varsity for Football. Imagine he's a bit bigger than 145 while playing Football, but still.Yep. Grant is a great athlete. This is an idiotic post. All this means is SEP wasn't able to magically have tough kids transfer in at the same weight as Valley's tough kids.

And then they made the potential match of the night disappear as well @ 145.
Eh...I've posted dumber. Not really a secret that SEP gets timely transfers. So does Valley for all I know.
Why wouldn't you want to wrestle for Christensen at SEP?
Because some kids (or more likely parents) aren't selfish and want to help their school have success. Others rush to the powers like SEP, West, Waverly, etc. to push their individual agenda. Oh save me the "they can get better wrestling better talent in the room and having better coaches."Why wouldn't you want to wrestle for Christensen at SEP?

Except Lombardi actually earned a D1 football scholly. I thought Dean just tried out and didn't make it.A young Gabe Dean.

Oldham will make it back to 106 for the majority of the rest of the season and definitely for districts and state. The cut was rough on him and the two pound allowance after Christmas will help.Is Oldham going up to 113, or just for the meet? He is big and got handled by Schriever pretty well at 106, but 113 even tougher--loaded.
