SEP vs Valley

I wasn't being critical of either program, the wrestlers, the coaches or anything. Simply stating a fact...one would think there would be more tight matches between these two top programs. Especially when you consider how tight most collegiate matches are. No big deal. Glad the dual came down to the last match and the stands were packed.

Welp...just glad that out of state kids come to Iowa to wrestle instead of staying home for "state pride."

I look at this whole thing as a free market concept: If your kid is good, likes the sport, but lives in a town or school that worships football and the wrestling program (or the whole sports program) is crap, why not move to where your kid can get better? Is the kid going to suffer educationally or socially? Probably not.

Nate and Nick Gallick lived in the rich part of Tucson in the Catalina Foothills. They used to travel an hour one way to go to school in one our poorer school districts at Sunnyside H.S. just to be better wrestlers. Not many white kids at Sunnyside...let me tell you but can't beat them for wrestling. Same deal with the Larkins a decade earlier. Both the Gallicks and the Larkins did alright.
I bet the West twins are having the most enjoyable season of their high school careers.

Oldham will make it back to 106 for the majority of the rest of the season and definitely for districts and state. The cut was rough on him and the two pound allowance after Christmas will help.
I wonder if handling the number 5 wrestler at 113 will change his mind about going back down

I think Valley is being very smart with Oldham and weighing him in at 106 as little as possible, he will be at 106 for districts and state. These kids sometime make weight Thursday, Saturday, Tuesday, 3 weigh-ins in 5 days is insane at the high school level.

Their entire family moved from what I understand. Not sure if there's a "Spirit Lake" issue or if it is totally legit but at least the family did move. That move isn't going to make them better wrestlers, at any rate.

I respectfully disagree. They are wrestling better competition now. Should sharpen them up a bit.

That's what I thought hence why I didn't understand the spirit lake reference.

Spirit Lake's superintendent is handing out jobs or finding jobs left and right for the parents of talented athletes. Ryan Kreiner from the hoops team is one of them.
