Session 2, PBP

30 left...Stoll trying to go upperbody...Black warned for stalling....Brooks just defending and backing up....time runs out on stoll....loses 3-0

Four guys in the championship usually makes for a decent tourney...really wish Gilman had got it done but it doesn't really matter as far as seeding goes. Either way, he meets a stud in the semis...if he were seeded 4th, I actually like his chances against NATO. Alex Meyer looked like a Walleye flopping around on the bottom of the boat. No other way to describe it really. Good job for Brooks...solid match. Let's get it done on the backside and wrestle for second. Not much you can say about Zain, Nolf, and Nickal.

Snyder looked like he was just drilling out there and chain wrestling against the Nebraska kid. How often do you see a Heavy Tech fall.

Is it me... Maybe my computer is doing weird things? I don't recall going on the PSU boards. In fact, I'm certain I didn't. Why is it I keep seeing posts from PSU buttholes? I don't care what your excuse is, you have your own boards to post on. Shouldn't you be watching B1G plus, or reading your own boards?

Or Jimmie Gulibon knocking off the #1 seed or Morgan McIntosh's two pins going into the finals and being undefeated like Zain and Nolf the Ripper. Or Penn State getting five straight guys into the finals.

It's not as if Iowa didn't know of Penn State's potential going in??? I'm sure the semi-finals weren't much of a shock... minus the let up by Thomas Gilman to give up the late td.

I was hoping Meyer would give a better effort against Brunson on his home mat. Also, I really liked Gilmans chances in that match going forward if he didn't give up that boneheaded takedown, he was the only one able to get to his offense, Megaludis not even close to a TD till Gilman gave it to him. Oh well, if Tomasello wins what would the seeds look like for 125 this year at NCAAs..?

Thanks Huck. Came home let without knowing what happened. Appreciate your efforts to keep us posted.

Penn state has an awesome team and are doing what we wish our team could! I dont mind the courtious posters one bit and ignore the hecklers! Hats off! They have kids who wrestle the way hawkeyes used to and a coach who has an advantage over ours at preparing guys mentally. You get what you earn in this sport! Thats why it is so great!

I find their style to be distinctly different from the Iowa of old.

They're doing a good job of recruiting upper-weight guys and winning with them. Iowa doesn't produce the number of upper weight kids like we used to..numbers don't help and Cael won 4 natty titles as a 184lber..He's got credibility there

Good30 It is doubtful you are going to score on your 6th like tonight, but with all the lion lurking, you never know.

It's not as if Brunson was a slouch. He wrestled Nickal tough until Nickal got a late td and put Brunson to his back for the fall. I expect Brunson to wrestle Nickal as hard tomorrow in the finals.

Alex got cradled as did Myles Martin against Nickal. At the collegiate level... elite guys will put you away quick with a cradle. Alex will hopefully come back and wrestle harder and smarter in the consi's. He has a lot to be wrestling for. Seeding will be a big factor in a stacked 174 weight class. Alex still needs to finish out the Big Ten tourney strong not to fall in the seeding battle.

Alex fell to #10 in the rankings before the BIG Ten's and will be fighting for his seeding life tomorrow.

The Hawks will be wrestling for 2nd trailing by 27 going into the finals.

Serious question, when was the last time one of our guys hit a cradle on a Big Ten caliber opponent? Not saying it hasn't happened recently but my memory may be clouded by Brooks and Meyer getting stuck by a cradle recently.

Didn't Rhoads hit a cradle in the closing seconds against MN today to pick up the major?

Here's the thing, IMHO. Iowa is actually wrestling fairly well. Not perfect, but we are fairly active and conditioning looks night and day better than the NC State meet. We are just not good enough.
I was thinking the same thing. Gilman and Meyer wrestled below seed, but Brooks and Burak wrestled above seed to cancel it out. Cooper has looked pretty good. Brooks' "injury" doesn't seem to be hampering him, and I wasn't sure Stoll would make it through one match, much less contribute two pins and possibly qualify for NCAAs without need of a wild card.

We didn't have as many studs as PSU entering this tourney and they didn't fall on their faces. We didn't fall on our faces either. If we wrestle well tomorrow we'll likely take second, as expected.

Totally agree with you. The boys are working their buts off.. Total difference since NC State. Just stings a lot more knowing how far we have to go to getting to be back on top.

Mid afternoon yesterday by Alex Meyer. What do I win?
