SIAP: Larry Tracy to Indiana

As of right now, all 85 scholarships are accounted for next year with the 10 commits in this class. Getting to 20 is probably a stretch this year. Assuming a walk-on or two get rewarded with a scholly and 5-7 kids leave the program like usual, a smaller class of 15-17 is likely this year. 6 uncommitted recruits were invited to the big recruiting weekend this weekend. The math is pretty simple.

Have we ever had a class of 17 or fewer with Kirk?

They always seem to get to 20, but I don't think KF has ever had such a small group of seniors (11) as he has this year. I don't think we're going to get 9 players leaving the program and no walk-ons be rewarded with scholarships.

4 of the last 7 years Wiscy has signed less than 20 players, including 2012 when they signed just 12 recruits.

A reasoned reply, the type the board needs more of.
Interesting observation regarding Wisconsin.
I guess we'll know in early 2019.

Wisconsin has smaller recruiting classes than Iowa because they don't have near the attrition Iowa does. Iowa's attrition is also the underlying cause of them being on the list of low graduation rates for A/A players.

2002-2015 Iowa had a 60% retention rate of players signed and Wisconsin had a 63% retention rate. That may have changed some over the last few years, but not sure it can be classified as significantly different.

There are five fifth-year seniors left on the roster that began 2014 on scholarship. In fairness, Josh Jackson was part of that group, as were Miles Taylor and Ben Niemann. Wiegers was also part of that group. So, 11 of 20 recruits from that class either transferred or quit football before their eligibility was exhausted (12 if you count Wiegers). The 2015 class isnt much better. Ten of 21 have already left (that does not include Daniels). Those 22 scholarships were filled by younger players.
So yes, it will be harder to get to 20 this year. Some possibilities:
Vejvoda-5th years are not guaranteed
Fant-will be gone barring major injury
Hooker-strong possibility of the same (hope not)
A Jackson-same as Hooker on both counts
Toks is likely not going to play again-can convert to academic hardship.
There are at least two LBers and 2-3 corners that are strong candidates to transfer for playing time. That is a natural consequence of having ten of them on scholarship.
So, 18-19 there without anyone getting booted for rules or academics.

Iowa will take 20 kids at least like they do every year. They have 10 commits so far. Who are the other ten that are so high-priority that they didn't have room for Brock and or Tracy?

I was told there would be no math.

You are correct. I got Wisconsin and NW mixed up. NW gave out 92 scholarships between the 14-18 classes. Iowa gave out 109.
The 14 and 15 classes had huge attrition no matter who we are comparing Iowa to. Over 50% is hard to overcome when you are not bringing in a lot of 4 and 5* players.
