South Dakota St QB Mark Gronowski visiting Iowa today, Jan 3. He won TWO Nattys, went 49-6 & threw for 10,330 yds & 93 TDs

The elephant in the room that no one seems to want to talk about is that while he's obviously talented and has been hyper-productive, he has also spent his entire collegiate career playing for the FCS equivalent of Texas or Ohio State or Georgia.

At Iowa, he may very well represent an upgrade over what we have at the position. That alone could be reason enough to pursue him. But it seems overly optimistic to automatically assume he'll be as productive here when he's no longer surrounded by talent that equals or surpasses the top 5-7 programs in the sport.
You know how you eat an elephant? One TD at a time!

One has to ask...if he's looking at going to the NFL why would he risk hurting his stock by having his numbers drop dramatically with a year at Iowa.
Big rewards though as well, O is due for a turnaround. If he's the man that orchestrates it, that's shows very well on his resume for the draft.

I don't know, Indiana did pretty good with basically half their starters as FCS transfers. I know JMU is now FBS but last year was the first year. These guys were recruited by Cignetti when JMU was FCS.
Seems to me these top FCS teams do occasionally whip the big boys, with a whole team of FCS talent.
Iowa included.

This. This is a legit QB and we need to make this happen for any shot of success next season. Bring your WR friends too better than what we have currently.

FCS doesn't spook me at all, there are many FCS QB's waaay better than anything we've had for years.
I think a lot of CFB fans have become pretty narrow minded when it comes to finding talent. The star system isn't perfect, if it was, Cam Ward probably would've been playing for Ohio State all these years. Wetjen is also proof that talent can be found on any level. Shithead Nebraska and Iowa State fans will mock us with their unearned sense of superiority, but if we get Gronowski, they better not underestimate him.

I feel more like the elephant in the room is that we as a fanbase are so desperate for a QB to be excited about that we're all in on an FCS guy nowadays. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with that, just a bit of an expectation VS reality thing that's transpired since Stanley graduated.

Maybe, but I think you’re underestimating how good he is.

Put it this way, he is deciding whether to be on Iowa’s roster, or an NFL roster next year.

It’s not just an FCS guy tho. He’s exactly what we’ve needed. I can bet if he does go FBS he will be successful next year. Top 20 QB in all FBS… not a desperate fan base, most fan bases would be excited about this. Including 12+ teams in the B1G

Yeah, an loose cannon that's shot puts the ball. A tall slow guy from Auburn and a walkon. Good catch.
Iowa with the ball 3rd and 9, game on the line, Bacon Hill drops back to pass.

I likely am underestimating, as I have only caught their playoff games. Like all of us, I do hope it works out because he seems like the only good option left.

So...once you guys are done spitting at each other. What was the skinny? Does Iowa has a legit shot?

This is not only risky for G, but also for Iowa. Imagine if after putting up big numbers at SDSU, his game tanks at Iowa. You think it's hard now getting a good QB to come to Iowa City...
I agree. It's better not to take a chance on improving.

The NFL has implemented new procedures for prospects to declare special eligibility for the 2025 NFL Draft, including a championship deadline for players who participate in the College Football Playoff National Championship.
The alterations were noted in a league memo sent to agents Tuesday, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported.
A Jan. 24, 2025, deadline to petition for special eligibility for championship game participants was established. NFL teams will receive a list of names on Jan. 25 with players having 72 hours (until Jan. 27) to revoke their submissions.
On the opposite end, an early soft deadline of Monday, Jan. 6, 2025, will be put into place for players whose seasons have been completed at an earlier date. The traditional hard deadline for special eligibility will be Jan. 15.

By the NFL rules Gronowski has to make a decision fairly soon , soft deadline Jan 6 , hard deadline Jan 15, I suppose one is for athletes who are not on a viagra script and Jan 15 is for the true degenerates, so Kwik has time on His side.

I'd love to see him play for the Hawks. But if you think he's going to improve on 10,000+ yards and 93 TD passes playing in a Kirk Ferentz offense you're high. He may show that he can play at a higher level, but his stats are gonna drop significantly.

Again. So don't try to get better?
You "get better" by joining an organization that has a track record for developing and utilizing people with your kind of skills...not one that has failed miserably at it. Love to see him in black and gold but it would be the most epic turn around of an offense in recent history if he put up similar numbers.

To get better you don't try to get better? I assume you believe Iowa shouldn't try to improve at the QB position.

OK...we were talking about different angles. Hell yes, Iowa tries to get better. Go after the best QB you can. Persuade him he's the missing piece and then get Kirk the f*** out of the way so the kid can play and use his talents.
