Spencer and Gavin

I gotta ask - honest question. Is there an element here that feels that DeSanto should have taken a graceful loss in deference to Lee's career?

No.

Honest question, is there an element among PSU fans that enjoyed watching an injured Spencer Lee go down because he's going to Iowa rather than simply appreciating an upset win?

Real PSU fans? Absolutely not! Any asshole who would be happy that someone else loses when they are hurt are either trolls or just trash people.

Just seeing this all this morning, hoping Spencer heals up and ready to go 100% next year. Was surprised to hear he has torn ACL, can't believe his dad would let him out there like that with really nothing to prove. That being said, I'm not a doctor and I guess if the doctor said there could be no further damage, maybe I can see the point, but I have a hard time believing you can't do more damage to an already torn ACL

Sitting at dinner with friends last night when we heard about Spencer's loss. After the initial "holy crap" moment and a few minutes to digest, I said, "I feel bad for the kid to be that close to perfection and lose." There was no fandom involved.

But, at the same time you have to appreciate a kid dropping down to meet the best HS wrestler in the country. Unfortunately, he wasn't at his best. But, that creates another thing. You have to feel a little bad for the kid that decided to drop down in December and worked his ass off, only to beat a superhero that wasn't 100%.

I'm not a doctor and don't play one on TV, but I think that any additional injury due to an ACL tear is long-term wear on the joint, if it's not fixed. I think that in the short-term, the likelihood of additional injury is very slim.

Sure, I'd bet a million that element exists. Sad, but every base has its share of followers that lack perspective.

Spencer breezes thru the semis with a pin, TF & 6-0 win and barely anyone on this forum mentions his knee. (Wild Turk seemed like the only one)

Spencer loses in the finals to a kid who wrestled with relentless pressure, and suddenly HR acts like Spencer had his leg amputated.

Lmfao.

They hate us because they ain't us.

You guys are like the hot chick from high school who shows up at the 10-year reunion 40 pounds heavier and with a mustache but still thinks the other women are jealous of her.

That crowd would have gone bananas if Lee had won and taken his place as the greatest PA high school wrestler ever. Instead, they went bananas for the underdog who won a match nobody but he and maybe his parents thought he could win. If you think the reaction had anything to do with Lee's college plans, you need to get over yourself.

And you're like the fat, ugly chicks at prom without a date standing in corner waiting for their first trip to 3rd base.

We have been talking about his knee for a couple weeks now.

It might surprise you to know the competition generally got better as the tournament went on. Also, we have someone close to the situation who has reported he sustained further injury in the semis.

We all thought those big knee braces were the "in" fashion thing in Pennsylvania these days.

Most of you know that I am a pragmatic poster over here, but to cast a PIAA wrestling crowd as anything but appreciative of a great effort is hypocritical at best. If my memory serves, I'm sure when the Iowa crowd went nuts when Bubba pinned David Taylor, it was out of jealousy not the great effort of Bubba. I'm sure it was the same situation when Dake beat Taylor in the finals, Iowa fans were sitting on their hands that time too. Let's be realistic, we all have motives to react in ways that are technically unsportsmanlike, it's called human nature. Do we in PA wish Lee and Teasdale were staying in state, absolutely. Do we in PA wish the best for these young men, yes. Are we going to be cheering for them in black and gold, absolutely not.

I've made a lot of Iowa friends over the years at nationals, and hope to make a few more this year too. The internet lends itself to anonymous BS, when you are face to face with people a reasonable dialogue is so much easier. See y'all in Saint Louis...if we're not buried in snow here.

Are you honestly, as a pragmatic you say, coming on here to use the DT/Bubba match to compare to a high school kid losing his last high school match in the state finals?

You are talking about two college men vs a kid in high school? There should never be anything but appreciation at a high school event, especially for excellence.

Yep.

So much for pragmatism.

You're talking about a kid from Ohio attending PSU vs a kid from Virginia attending ASU at the college level.. Apples to oranges.

And for the record, I was in the Taylor camp vs Dake... So most of your point is moot.

And I'm not ragging on you as I enjoy your posts, but your argument here is nonsense.

Dake is a completely different animal than this situation. Dake was going for 4 in 4 different classes not going for his 1st. And Taylor wasn't an undefeated 3 time national champ losing to Dake. And let's not forget Dake beat 2 hawks and 2 Lions on his way to 4. He beat us too.

The question becomes twofold: Will Spencer now get surgery to repair the ACL, and how long of a rehab after the operation? It looks like a redshirt is on the table as one of the options, due to the situation, or, if it's only a partial tear, perhaps he is ready to go by mid season next year?

To shirt or not to shirt?

The plan was always to shirt, and I imagine this will only reaffirm that

He was always planning on RS. The only question will be whether he is ready for Midlands.

Really? You didn't get the sense that some people were a little upset with DeSanto?

Let it go. No one has expressed that view on this board. DeSanto wrestled the guy who had won his semi final match on the other side of the bracket. No one (except your own post) has suggested that he should have defaulted in deference to Spencer's total awesomeness.

Had this match taken place just about anywhere but Hershey, I would agree with you, but Exeter is in the same district as Hershey and that school took a gigantic fan contingency with them. It's right down the road from Hershey.

In general, you make a great point though: Hater fans are the worst. The kind that frequent "TheMat" for instance.

No one even so much as hinted at it. This exists only in his mind. It is very odd, to say the least.

I have nothing but respect for DeSanto. I've seen nothing but the same sentiment from every other Iowa fan to comment on him. Great effort out of him.

The fact that Spencer was on one leg is no fault of DeSanto's obviously. I don't think there's any doubt that the outcome would have been dramatically different had Spencer been healthy, but injuries are part of the sport and DeSanto's championship is no less legitimate as a result of Spencer's injury. Hats off to DeSanto for taking on the challenge.

BTW, the arena still isn't full. For the FINALS???????? Come on PA, 12 million people and you can't pack the house for your finals?
That's actually a good point. 3 million people here, and the Iowa state finals are sold out every year.
