Spencer and Gavin

I wasn't there (but been there a bunch over the years), and you may be a fine fellow and all, but just by reading what you wrote I can tell you're either making it up as you go or you're chock full of shit.

If you think an entire arena in Iowa are going to "erupt" in glee when a top ranked Iowa recruit loses during the Iowa State tournament, you've quite simply lost your mind.

Iowa State fans and John Nicholson's friends and relatives, sure, and I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest there were more Iowa Wrestling fans present in those seats than Cyclones and Nicholson's crew. And I assure you they weren't "cheering".
I was there and obviously the decibel level raised, but that always happens when there is an upset or a fall. There was no one booing or trying to get stall calls.

Hey Chief, you know that I am a big fan of your posting. But, I wanted to say that your take on the crowd's reaction is wrong. Everyone loves an underdog. This loss by Lee was one of two of the greatest upsets in PA wrestling.

The other great upset was by Wade Schalles against John Chatman. Nobody gave Schalles a chance to win against a returning state champion. Just like nobody gave Lee's opponent a chance.

Now tell me after watching this video if you think the crowd was cheering against Chatman or rooting for the underdog? @Azchief32

LL, was Schalles really an "underdog" heading into the match? Schalles had pinned something like 20 out of 22 opponents going into that match I believe?

Sure. There's going to be a reaction, a "buzz". Death, Taxes and Sun Rising in the East type of thing...........

Spencer breezes thru the semis with a pin, TF & 6-0 win and barely anyone on this forum mentions his knee. (Wild Turk seemed like the only one)

Spencer loses in the finals to a kid who wrestled with relentless pressure, and suddenly HR acts like Spencer had his leg amputated.

Lmfao.
Sadly, This is spot on. Somebody even said "6-0? The other kid must of been allowed to just turtle up"

BREAKING: People discuss how serious knee injury likely affected athlete's ability to perform!

what did Teasdale have to say on twitter. he must have removed it bec all I see is apology for his language and respect for both wrestlers

My question on this whole thing is this. Spencer has now had 2 significant injuries in the past 2 years with his shoulder and his knee. How concerned should we about him being injury prone or is it just bad luck?

Also cheered for DT to beat Dake so not completely against Penn State and do enjoy great wrestling and stories like Jenkins and DT or Mocco. Even though Mocco left Iowa for OK State...

A HUGE underdog. He came out of nowhere, form a nobody school and beat a STUD returning state champ. Nobody gave Schalles a chance to beat Bimbo Chatman...except Schalles.

Schalles never won a state championship before this match.. This was were the legend of Schalles was born. The kid he beat at the state championship returned the following year and became a state champion again....after Schalles graduated.

Everyone thought those pins were "fluky." He was so gangly looking, that he looked more like a second team basketball player than as stud wrestler.

But, even the Dan Gable called Schalles the greatest pinner he had ever seen. So, in retrospect, those pins weren't flukes.

As an aside, Schalles's feat was a little like Vision Quest. He actually came to my high school to scout Chatman wrestling a regular season match. He KNEW he was going to end up wrestling Chatman for the championship. Great story. Great wrestler.
