Block seeded #2. Anyone know about the Frost kid from Dowling who got the 1 seed?

Riggins also #2 behind Carson Martinson.

A couple of interesting draws. I'm sure there are others that I overlooked.

Yeah it doesn’t make sense. Seems like across all the weights the kids from the CIML got seeded a couple places higher than they should’ve.

That's the feeling in every sport.

Hawkeye football recruiting well represented at HWT as well. Graves #2 in 2A and Borcherding-Johnson #1 in 3A

The good thing is they will get to settle it on the Mat but I agree on the seeding.

Previous success at state seems to carry a lot of seeding weight in the formula.

I’ve heard the “you gotta beat the guy in front of you” and “that’s why they wrestle the matches” but why have seeding if you are going to seed the undefeated U.S. #1 guy, returning state champ #2 seed. I’m sure Riggins gives two shits but the principle remains. I am guessing a computer does this based on criteria but humans need to look it over and do a smell check.

Does it? The guy seeded over undefeated, returning runner up Block has never placed at state and has one loss. Martinson has 4 losses, placed 3rd last year and is seeded over undefeated, defending champ Riggins.

Seems like the formula could use a tweak.
Please tell me they are not using the track wrestling system to seed the tournament. It seems to be the way things are going, but it also seems like a lazy approach. Unless the unplacing guy has a win over Riggins or Block, I cannot see how they are seeded higher, unless they took the results from last years Louisiana tournament and gave it equal weight.
Personally, I do not think they should seed as much as they do in Iowa. Seed the district champs and formula or blind draw the others in. Too many games are played during the season to impact seeding with the current system.

I think they do use it.

They do use trackwrestling.

Every single year there are headscratching seedings.

The champion always emerges. Outside of family and friends, no one cares or seldom remembers who finished 2nd/3rd.

I believe both Frost kids at Dowling were state champs in Louisiana last year. They wrestled for Holy Cross HS which was formerly coached by TJ Miller who is now at Loras. Another former Wartburg wrestler I believe may be the coach at HC now. Lots of raw wrestling talent here in LA, most kids do not start until middle school at earliest.

They were both three-time state champions in Louisiana.

Both lost to Jesuroga brothers in December as their only losses on the season.

Joel Jesuroga (Southeast Polk) over Jacob Frost (Dowling Catholic) Dec 3-2

Nathanael Jesuroga (Southeast Polk) over Evan Frost (Dowling Catholic) Dec 7-2

Blair, did they both change weights after the losses or did the Jesuroga's wrestling up to challenge them?

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks to me like Nathanael Jesuroga moved up from 126 to 132 to wrestle Ethan Frost and then Jacob Frost moved up from 138 to 145 to face Joel Jesuroga.

I

Think I heard flo only.

Traditional tournament will be on ihssn streaming, and semis will also be on some Mediacom channel, with finals being fox in dsm. Not sure about the rest of the state
I have Flo and it shows the regular tourny but not the duals.
