Tyler Brennan won the Pac 12 tournament this past weekend, and qualified for NCAAs. The problem for him, as has been discussed, is that this is his 5th postseason, and he didn't wrestle during the "free COVID year". Somehow, nobody saw this or noticed until the last couple of days. Now, it appears he's being pulled from the bracket, all his wins are being vacated (and FFTs for the other guys) and Little Rock is losing it's Pac 12 title....allegedly. Insane that it got to this point.

I'm still confused on who/what/how/when some of these covid years are handled, but I'd think the coaches/university would be more inclined to have that figured out.
Compliance handles that stuff. To get the covid year you had to participate in the 2021 season. The compliance department at LR messed this up

The biggest part is how does this happen without the wrestler, the coaches and even the teammates NOT knowing it shouldn't be happening?

This is damn near the equivalent of wrestling your senior year of high school and then going back and wrestling again the next year. There is basically no way in hell that happens without moving and changing your identity. But, doing it while competing for the same school the entire time.....

It would make sense that if you were going to get 5 postseasons, you would have to have one of them be during the silliness of the Covid year.

Pretty sure it wasn't actually caught and officially contested until after the brackets were made...
Correct.

NCAA wants him out - LR filed a petition to keep him in. They've already decided next steps. Not sure what in the hell leg LR has to stand on here.

While this is unfortunate, I’m more concerned about the weigh in debacle at Big 12s …

Removing the elastic from the underwear is one that's being overlooked here. That's blatant cheating and is written in the rules you can't alter your undergarment.

The big 12 is a joke in 2020 after Lamont who was the #1 seed lost at the big 12 tournament they decided to have a vote and wrestle a true 8th at 133 so Lamont would make NCAAs. Before the tournament started it was determined no true 8th would be wrestled at 133. WVU 133 Seibert had to comeback from the hotel after he thought he made NCAAs and wrestle a true match .

Yeah, I went back and looked. He wrestled in 5 Pac 12 Tournaments and none of them were 2021. Not sure how they can argue any avenue. Any type of redshirt simply doesn't apply...

No redshirt, no medshirt, no covid year. Just absolute malfeasance by LR. At least their actions now are. Fine, you made a HUGE mistake. Clearly believing athletes were "gifted" a free year. I'm just supremely annoyed they're even fighting this. Had they just admitted it, it's possible the spot goes to the Pac12 runnerup.

You simply have to present some type of defense or you look guilty as hell. Really, you look guilty no matter what. But, this way you at least put your stance on the record so you can always fall back to it if questioned later on...

I can’t blame them for fighting. They mislead the kid for a full season so I get it that they want the NCAA to paper over their mistake.
