Suriano to Iowa State?

I don't care about Dresser's accomplishments, all I care about is Jarrett's last season. Once he's done, ISU is behind me. And if he gets screwed this season b/c of azz kissing, they can all go to hell.

I’m with you on that. I’m a Degen fan because my son, Flat Stanley they call him, had the same advantages and disadvantages Degen. Tall as hell and can’t gain weight, but don’t chose bottom on them. He also could never cut because his BMI was so low they almost didn’t let him wrestle his junior/senior year so he’s wrestling bigger dudes that are cutting 10/15 pounds and could get bulled against good wrestlers at times. I wanted my son to train with Degen so he could teach Jarrett some set ups from working tilts to switching to a cradle. Jk, on that, but I did want him to work with him. Just not many skinny dudes to work with like that and it would have been perfect. My son and Degen still could get horsed by hard cutting wrestlers, but it would have been fun to watch the skeletons wrestle. Csb

It is very frustrating for sure. He's the heaviest he's ever been - 160. The kid can't gain weight. His family is skinny. His brother wrestled for NDSU - 6'1 @ 133. Jarrett followed St. John to ISU b/c his body type & thought he would be the best coach for him to work with. Not a lot of string beans out there wrestling, for sure. If this is a shortened season for him, he can't go away with his head down....round 12, AA, Covid AA, NQ, graduated, & got married. Ames wasn't too bad for him, just won't be the ending he wanted.

Apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere but why is Suriano so unhappy at Rutgers? It would seem that he’s got the perfect workout partner in SeaBass. He’s close to home, etc.

Apparently $$$. Sees an opportunity.

We have some really sharp cookies on this forum, me excluded. I'm too lazy to go back and look who said it, but someone predicted Suriano would have some problems from past dealings and being "eligible " for NIL.

Weird, I hope this doesn’t become common place in the sport. Imagine if a Hawk did this! This board might implode

(Clears throat) Well Spooner, thank you for pointing that out. But my question was in general why was he unhappy with his time at Rutgers, not really specific to when he left. So change “is” to “was”.
I'm not sure he was "unhappy." He seems like a guy who likes to bounce around. I also don't think he was planning on coming back to college until NIL, so he was getting a taste for a bunch of different RTC's.

Yeah, I think he was focused on an Olympic team run as well for 20 then for 21. Then NIL happened. No clue if/when/where he will show up on campus.

Fairly clear this is about the old Ching aling a few shekels a bit of walking around money. Let’s just call it what it is, he is a hired gun. As far I can tell this fits right in with his character and would not surprise me no matter where he lands, rest assured it’s the highest bidder wins.

Penn State Willie offered to pay off Suriano’s fees he needed to pay to be eligible. A couple days later he picks PSU to win the natty. Right on cue.

Suriano was not Penn State's 125 lber in his Crystal Ball prediction

Weird that he picked PSU while also having Hildebrandt at 125 and not Suriano.

Crazy how many different people Carl has been trying to sweet talk to transfer there this year. I was thinking with this COVID shot rumor stuff I could see him getting dresser booted and go back to ISU for another go now that he is far more established.

Sounds like there is a rumor he is leaving due to vaccine policy. Where is this coming from?

listening to Willie's show and they're talking NIL stuff. Apparently, parents have reached out to say that both Iowa and PSU are refusing to talk NIL with recruits while other programs are offering 6 figure deals. Apparently, PSU has lost a couple recruits because of it. I'm wondering if Iowa has lost any too. Dresser has apparently offered Suriano 150k.

Given their challenges to raise funds for their wrestling club it doesn't seem likely they have $150K laying around to pay a kid to wrestle for 2 months.

Totally illegal for the representative of a school to offer anything beyond scholarship money.

Something smells the direction of fosu on this front as well.

Specifically high school recruits or transfer recruits as well?

Just asking, because I really don't know...

What stops a coach from talking with a recruit and then while not saying anything related to NIL so as to remain compliant technically, he/she "turns it over" to someone else present, not a coach, that then spells out the NIL "offer"?

I guess I would question why Ohio State would be in play? They're not contending this year, imo. Why spend $$$ when you're a year or two away?

I wonder if this is nothing more than trying to run up the offer from the Suriano clan?

I'm taking in general not just Suriano. I don't think it's coincidence that the biggest money program in the conference who has been floundering a bit the past 2-3 years all of the sudden lands a class that was unheard of even by slush fund standards the same time NIL hits the streets. Ryan is like an annoying used car salesman kind of recruiter. But if a dealership is offering to pay people to take the cars vs selling them at a discount they will move a lot more cars.

So, is the school/coaching staff just an intermediary between an athlete and a business offering $$$? Who does the negotiating?

Every state is different. I think BYU was involved with a deal that got money for the whole team but for the most part any NIL money an athlete might be earning is supposed to come from outside the school and be approved by the school before it's allowed. The coaches could probably mention the school has a program (at Iowa it's Flight) that helps educates athletes on NIL and strengthens their NIL potential but they can't offer money from the school or on behalf of private businesses. They can't broker deals between recruits and businesses. NIL is supposed to be an athlete soliciting a business or a business soliciting an athlete or an athlete running some website or they sell artwork or whatever and if they make a deal it gets school approval to be completed.

NLWC is not part of the university
Uuummmm, yeah. Is it a business? Most things these days are pretty loosy goosy, so most likely defining such things is a fools errand.

Recruit: "Do they have cash? Yep. Can I have some of it? Sure". And away we go.
