Good for them! But that still won't be enough to make me eat their crappy pizza!
When you're hungry enough, all pizza is good.
Well.....

Haven't had the vodka, but they need to change up their marketing at Riverside. They have boxes where you can donate your change or your small slot machine slips and it goes to The Swarm. The 'problem' is that they are right next to the same type of donation box that goes to disabled veterans. Call me what you want, but that's not even a pause in a decision on which one. I think if they moved the boxes to be by themselves, they'd stand a better chance of getting more.I tried to help the Swarm, but Brad put out one of the worst vodkas I've ever tasted and charges $27 for the pleasure. It's legit worse than Hawkeye.
Cliff notes on where the NIL funds stand for basketball? This discussion was on Feb 15th. You'd think that these 2 would know that all of the big NIL deals are going to the Iowa football players.
Check this out & watch:

So, in other words, you can’t really fault Fran for why he can’t land better players. The big donor money to get transfer portal targets is being used for football. Last year it resulted in us getting Cade, Erick, etc. This explains why Fran strikes out on the big names in the transfer portal.
The main money that basketball players get is once they are on campus (they get paid when they volunteer).
It’s too bad fans donating to NIL won’t choose to send it to basketball until Kirk actually chooses to put together a reasonable P5 offense. All the money spent on offensive transfers last year resulted in zero improvement. Even before Cade and All went out, the offense was still statistically very low. Deacon just happened to turn that low production into an absolute train wreck. The big donor money to get transfer portal targets is being used for football. Life is not fair therefore it's not my responsibility to fund disadvantaged college athletes. It's NOT NIL.
It never has been.
100% Pay For Play
Which is why me, among many, will never give a penny to it.
How are some of these "athletes" disadvantaged? And I would contend most don't attend a single college class!Life is not fair therefore it's not my responsibility to fund disadvantaged college athletes.
Sarcasm is a funny thing. How are some of these "athletes" disadvantaged? And I would contend most don't attend a single college class!
Which is fine, but then if that’s the attitude you want to maintain you forfeit the right to bitch about the caliber (or lack thereof) of athletes Iowa is landing. It's NOT NIL.

Just for my own edification, can you let me know how much I need to contribute in order to be able to bitch? Are there certain thresholds?Which is fine, but then if that’s the attitude you want to maintain you forfeit the right to bitch about the caliber (or lack thereof) of athletes Iowa is landing.
I think the whole system in its current form is garbage, but my opinion doesn’t change reality.
Lol.Just for my own edification

And if he doesn’t have money to work with this offseason, forget about anyone transferring to Iowa who might move the needle for this program.
Sounds encouraging.
Pathetic this is the current state of college sports. The NCAA clearly had no clue how to devise a plan to manage NIL when it was first approved. And obviously they still don’t.Correct.
If a basketball player in the transfer portal is looking for a big NIL deal, Iowa can't offer one.
We were lucky to land Krikke, imo.
Remember Hunter Dickinson? He wasn't happy with what he was getting paid at Michigan and entered the transfer portal. He chose Kansas over Kentucky because Kansas offered a better guaranteed deal.

They’re about as competent and efficient as the government.
I agree. His style of play should be very attractive to a majority of kids. My only issue with him is obviously team defense and toughness.Yep. So, when people bitch about Fran not being able to get anyone from the portal, just remember what he's up against.
Fran has a lot to offer (just not much money).
Well, to be fair, guys like him have to get as much as possible while in school because their college game doesn't really 'transfer' well to the next level ...just ask Luka 🥺Remember Hunter Dickinson? So how do we take the recruiting the years before NIL? Fran can and has landed some really good guys, he has not been able to close the highly rated players that the fanbase is clamoring for. I think it gets better when his sons are gone and there is no family ties that can blind coaches and fans.Yep. Bingo, my thoughts exactly. There are so many places I can spend my money, and college basketball players, simply are not one of them. I'll pay to go to the games, and buy merchandise. But that's as far as I'd go. I love watching basketball, and Fran though he frustrates me with his lack of defensive coaching. He has given me a lot of fun basketball to watch since he's been here. I do think he recruits the kind of kids that are easy to pull for. It's NOT NIL.

You provided a non sequitur. In my lifetime:
1 Final Four
1 Big Ten regular season title
2 Elite Eight
3 B1G Tourney titles
5 Sweet Sixteen
25 NCAA Tournament Appearances
I tempered my enthusiasm a long time ago.
My support never wavers. I never bitch about officiating (because I am one). I question coaching decisions, but reallze I'm not qualified to make them.
Anything else, Bucko?

If your point is about not bitching about officiating because you are one, and that somehow is your idea of a rebuttal to my point about the current landscape of college sports and recruiting, I don’t know what to tell you, Bucko.
FTR, there are some pretty terrible officials who have no business officiating games. Bad people are in every profession. No one is above reproach.
Because they live on campus and the university uses them to recruit.Asking honestly.
Why are they called student athletes?
Recruit what? More "student athletes ?"Because they live on campus and the university uses them to recruit.
Recruit what? More "student athletes ?"
Come on man, everyone knows it's a joke.
Students are coming to a school because of jocks? You got any actual data on this? That's what I'm saying. They use student athletes to brand the university and attract more students.
