I do see Fran being more active with SWARM. Is that not translating yet? I mean if he helps rake in some coin by granting exclusive access to donors, shouldn't he expect to get some of those proceeds dedicated to his sport?

iIRC Brad mentioned early on that Barta wasn’t fully on board with NIL. Wouldn’t personally meet with him, sent others from the Athletic Dept. Brad was frustrated with Barta.
if the NIL ever does blow up and go away, and I hope it does...the current system of pay to play...I hope the swarm can still do things like help the community and do charity stuff with players, outside of the university. and outside of pay to play.

It’s the collectives nationwide that only exist to pay players that are the problem here.
You can't scramble up eggs and then expect to separate them and put them back in the shell.

yeah I meant the current system of NIL where they tie it to recruiting. I think NIL should exist IE clark making money off of state farm commercials just like Mahomes does. however Mahomes does not have to worry about the U and the ncaa. wish clark did not have to also.

With the massive amount of money these television rights are bringing in, maybe in the not to distant future the University can split their share with the athletes instead of relying on fans forking the bill. NIL is trouble for all but a few college teams.
Buying t shirts and game tickets does nothing in regard to securing top talent. When Iowa starts going 3 - 9 year in and out will you still be going to the games? I doubt you will what will happen is you will be complaining about the product on the field
Yes purchasing certain beer does put money in SWARMS war chest but you would have to be an alcoholic in order to put as much money going toward SWARM buying beer as a simple yearly donation would do.
I'm not saying that people who don't join SWARM are terrible fans, I will say they have no clue how negatively they impact the program by not joining.

out of the over 1 million living university of iowa alumni (guesstimate), the recent email says the collective grew by 1,200 members in the past year. I believe there was around 2,000 members prior to that--so im guessing less than 4,000 members total but not positive.
i am suprised that tens of thousands of people will pay money for season tickets, clothing, food/etoh, spend half a day at the game etc, but not pony up 20$/month (240$/year tax deductible) to join the swarm to potentially see an improved product on the field. if 20$/mo members increased to 20,000 members total, then they would collect close to $4million more a year to spend on NIL.

that’s exactly what I’m talking about though….it should have nothing to do with being “competitive”. If an athlete can make money off their own NIL then they should be able to….thats all this should be. NIL has somehow turned into fan bases just writing checks to players.
I won’t be donating anymore than I already have to SWARM. Nothing against them, and if you all want to donate to a college kid….have a ball. I’m over this crowd sourcing of teams Wild West.

I agree NIL has gone down the wrong road but unless someone gets it back on track it's going to remain pay for play. Some high school players are already being paid millions plus to attend certain colleges. I've read where the Raiola kid has been offered 3 million to commit to Knebbers.
I believe we need to have at least 20,000 - 30,000 SWARM members to even have a chance at being a top 15 team year in and out.

I luckily make okay $ for being a non college graduate but even going from Sioux City to Iowa City for 1 game a year is pretty spendy. I'd rather support the program by being in And experiencing Kinnick than paying for the NIL.
Moon wrote $100k check to Swarm, which is great. He paid $10m 3 years ago to the AD for the "Moon Family Coach" naming thing. Wish he would have waited and spent the $10m on a "Moon Family Iowa QB."
could you imagine what would happen if we did have a 10m dollar QB and he threw a bunch of interceptions or got injured, or he took off in a yr or two to michigan. oh boy.
