Tariffs against Canada Mexico and China.

We subsidize agricultural products Is that free trade?
Is that supposed to be some sort of gotcha? In fact you are agreeing that NAFTA rules have become a suggestion. The other fact is that you missed that point for some reason.

Tariffs are a great way to level the free trade playing field when I country subsidizes an industry to gain a trade advantage. That said, tariffs should be limited to that purpose, and should not be punitive, or to gain an advantage, or other purposes like replacing an income tax. That's where Trump's tariff proposals fail.

NAFTA isn’t a thing anymore.

Trump's spending kept the economy going. Biden's spending led to inflation. The inflation rates tell the story.

@hawkeyetraveler

This is why you can't come back in 4 years and say Trump was a failure. They'll never believe it. It's always the Dems fault. I don't care if the Dems didn't hold the WH for 12 years, they'd still find a way to blame the Dems for MAGA/GOP F ups.

It might take a trade war to fix Biden's border mess.

We need to reduce the flow of illegals and drugs in the country. This will be a start. We then need to reverse the flow, and get many of the illegals out of the country.
1. Kick out the illegals who do jobs that help keep prices lower
2. Then bill Americans more for the products they produce, now coming form overseas.
3.????
4. Prices go down

The Republican belief system everybody!

Blow up the economy because of random people coming to America. Just because you think slamming your dick in a sliding glass door is fun doesn't mean you need to inflict that pain on everyone else.

I was responding to a post when I posted that. #50.

It’s a violation of NAFTA
Canada subsidizes some of their exports to the US, specifically lumber. Is that free trade?

I'll bet the hotels in New York City will take a hit when the government stops paying them to house illegals. The good news is that American's will be able to get a room in NYC at a more affordable rate.

People blowing up about tariffs that have a 0.01% chance of ever being implemented long term. It is negotiation and the US will win in those negotiations long term.

Ah it is a 7D chess scenario. Dear leader is so benevolent.
The ultimate irony is that Donald Trump lies so goddamn much and often, that on the rare ocasssions he actually isn't lying, even his supporters don't believe him. F---ing hilarious, but also sad.

If the other country knows it’s a negotiation tactic. Why even bother to give in on much more than a pittance. It all appears to be noise from Trump. Pay attention to me tactic. Got to keep my name in the news.

So what tarrifs will Mexico and Canada put on the US. Last time Canada went with lumber and cement. that i remember.

Our pork, beef, poultry, grain, produce, dairy are all subsidized. You pointing out Canadian lumber as them doing something unfair that the US doesn’t do ourselves is my point refuting whatever point you were making poorly.
I guess we'll have to just disagree. Oh, and just because you don't understand something doesn't make it my fault you don't understand it. A lot of people here tend to respond in a predetermined way based on whether or not the poster confirms to their own way of thinking.

Didn't Trump negotiate USMCA? This is what he said last time about it.
I will say that we just ended a nightmare known as NAFTA. (Applause.) They took our — they took our jobs for a long time. They took it for a long time. And we now have a brand-new U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement. It’s a whole different ballgame, and it’s going to be great for this plant. It’s going to be incredible for Michigan and for every place else in our country.

The USMCA is the fairest, most balanced, and beneficial trade agreement we have ever signed into law. It’s the best agreement we’ve ever made, and we have others coming. And, by the way, the China deal, two weeks ago, was just signed. And that’s going to bring $250 billion into our country. (Applause.) One after another.
Bragged incessantly about the "beautiful" deal he negotiated; now says he's going to violate the deal.

Ditto on all you said. Mainly because I don’t think you understand what you’re selling. IMO, Trump is going to flex on this for a bit. Then get small concessions. And spin it as some huge win. At least I hope that’s the game plan. If Trump is going after China and all of their bullshit. Totally on board. Help move some of that manufacturing to Latin America or closer to the US.

Big deal. Allowing illegals to cross into the U.S., and China flooding the country with fentanyl is also illegal.

If Joe was doing his job, Trump wouldn't need to impose tariffs.
It is amazing how easy it was to get you folks to happily sign on to a 25%+ tax increase. Now wait until you see the tax cuts they are going to propose for everyone making more than a million dollars a year.

This is why Trump has also proposed invading Mexico. And he is serious. Now, in his previous term the military would have pushed back enough to prevent this from happening. There's a reason he wants to replace all of the upper levels of the military with "Yes men" who will ok stuff like this. I'm sure all the anti-war folks will love it when he does that.

It’s next-level stupid.

Worldwide inflation was undoubtedly a result of COVID. Trump is just as guilty of reckless spending and the irresponsible printing of money as every other president we’ve had in the 21st century. Whoever claims inflation from 2021 on was entirely the fault of Biden’s lacks critical-thinking skills and most likely has very limited brain capacity.
Agree with this. Both Administrations sent us a check so we’d stay home and shop online. Both spent our money in wasteful ways.
Now we’re all surprised because we just got our bill?
As to the trade stuff Mexico is our biggest trade partner and Canada and China are right behind.
China is pouring big money into Mexico with EV plants just south of the border. Maybe they’ll hire some of the deported folks we send back home?

Trump will take away the tariff as soon as they start enforcing their border.

He may reduce taxes for all which is a good thing. The top 1% already pay over 45% of total tax receipts and pay a 25.9 percent average rate, nearly eight times higher than the 3.3 percent average rate paid by the bottom half of taxpayers. The average income tax rate in 2021 was 14.9 percent.

For reference the top 1% is those making over 684K/yr.

Hey as long as they kill all the cartel folks and destroy the fentanyl manufacturing as they walk the streets…🙄

The top 1% pay less than half the taxes despite having over 95% of all the money. If they don't want to shoulder as much of the tax burden as they do then they need to get more money into the workers so they can pay more as well. Or just spend hundreds of billions buying an election so they can just cut all the taxes for themselves and transfer it to everyone else.

We won't see a 25% increase.

Although the prices of a lot of goods has increased 25% since Biden took office.

Translation: "I don't know how tariffs work!"

Welp, you're going to find out. But you still won't believe it. You still haven't made the connection to how tariffs affected prices the first time.

I'm not selling anything. I'm just commenting where details are left out that affect the bigger picture.

I actually do agree with your opinion for the most part, although I think Trump isn't bright enough to orchestrate anything further than the broad idea.

That was his biggest problem in his first administration as well. For some reason people think he learned from that mistake…ignoring of course that Trump does not ever believe he makes mistakes.
