Tariffs against Canada Mexico and China.

Slaughtering kids? Are you in a “throw shit on the wall and see what sticks” mood?
You do know how the military works, don't you? Bombs don't discriminate and drug dealers will be more than happy to keep these things in areas where collateral damage will happen.

So our military is so awful they either can’t figure this out or they lack the mental capacity to create a plan to kill bad guys and not babies.
Gotcha.

Ditto on all you said. Mainly because I don’t think you understand what you’re selling. IMO, Trump is going to flex on this for a bit. Then get small concessions. And spin it as some huge win. At least I hope that’s the game plan. If Trump is going after China and all of their bullshit. Totally on board. Help move some of that manufacturing to Latin America or closer to the US.
This is the best case scenario and if it were up to just Trump, the likely outcome. I'm not sure it is up to him though. He seems to be much more of "the Face" for a far more organized conglomerate of billionaires than they were in his first term. It's why he can get away with such woefully unqualified and incapable people at serious cabinet positions. None of those people will actually be making any decisions, but they will be the ones to take the heat for how terrible those decisions are or make people's lives worse. I'd like to say these are my fears just getting the better of me but Elon Musk hasn't been very shy about how many policy decisions he is going to get to make.

I guess we can still hope Congress does what it can but given how Elon can personally finance every candidate's campaign (or a primary challenger's campaign) I don't have a lot of hope they will do anything to keep him in check. And the Supreme Court has already proven their disdain for the Constitution so there just aren't many ways to stop it other than to try and just delay things as much as possible.

That and they'll be more than happy to attack Americans in America. Will be a super popular war when the first bombs start blowing up in populated areas.

That’s a stretch and you know it. What does Hezbollah and Hamas do? They use civilians as human shields, Israeli missiles don’t have the capacity to pick and choose.

People involved in narco terrorism as well as other forms of terrorism, do not value life, and will use civilians as human shields.

They aren't awful, but physics is physics and they aren't going to let the fact that there is a fentanyl factory in the basement of a daycare center stop them from blowing it up. Have you not been paying attention to what is going on in Gaza? Do you think it is an accident that so many military targets are right next to civilian centers and hospitals?

Are you old enough to remember Vietnam? Or Iraq?

JFC you can't be this naiive.

Yes, the U.S. military is the best-trained, most professional and likely the most-constrained by rules-of-engagment army on the planet. That absolutely, positively does not mean collateral damage won't occur and women and children would not be be killed in a military action. They always are.

The U.S. military has no history whatsoever in which anyone other than weapon-carrying soldiers were among the casualties.

All this hand wringing, speculation. I do think he is talking big and will walk some of this back. He will implement some and I do expect it will have a counter productive impact, then when the pain becomes to bad, he will pivot again.

But I don't have the energy for all this unnecessary speculation and drama.

THIS.

Funny to watch everyone getting their panties in a wad though.

@hawkeyetraveler

This is why you can't come back in 4 years and say Trump was a failure. They'll never believe it. It's always the Dems fault. I don't care if the Dems didn't hold the WH for 12 years, they'd still find a way to blame the Dems for MAGA/GOP F ups.
We don’t have to convince the MAGa crazies, it is the people who voted Biden and then sat on the sidelines or voted Trump this time.

30% of the electorate are too far gone (MAGA) to bother with. 30% are hardcore Dems and 40% are persuadable one way or the other. Lumping the persuadable middle in with this far right tool is doing a disservice to those folks.

Nothing in the world is worse than being a democrat in their minds.

I don’t disagree. I’ve seen the history and yes, old enough to remember it.
We should just step down and start manufacturing white flags because the enemy keeps putting their children in harms way.
JFC my ass. How many children were killed in WWII?

Well the argument was whether or not it was a good idea to use the U.S. military to "invade" Mexico to try and stem the flow of fentanyl and other drugs. Do you think that is a good and prudent use of the U.S. military? And do you think such a mission can be accomplished without collateral damage to innocent Mexican children and other civilians?

If the answer is "no" to any of those questions, as it should be, you can see why the idea is being harshly criticized.

So with a major tariff announcement on MX and Canada one would think this was major news right? Foxnews has nothing on their main page. The headline is about immigrants killing Americans. Fox business doesn’t even have it as the headline. The headline is about Wal Mart rolling back woke policies.

The GOP propaganda machine is hard at work. The Dems need to stop f*cking around on topics like trans, Bibi’s arrest warrant, etc. They need to stop taking the bait every time Musk says anything. They need to stop over analyzing every crazy appointment. This dilutes the message and most average people won’t care who runs the education department.

If you want to bury Trumpism you need to hammer home, every day all day, what happens to prices and the economy over the next few years. Trump needs to own the consequences here, but the Dems lose their shit over every crazy thing Don does and you will not beat him with a “throw shit at the wall to see what sticks” strategy.

Stop.diluting.the.message. It is all about the economy - focus.
You are correct on this, but they also need to let it blow up in his face. Go on record saying "This is what will happen", which they've done so they can say "See? We told you so!" when it does happen. And sure, I suppose you could say "but what if it works?" Well, the thing is, not even Trump and Musk are saying that it won't raise prices. In fact, they said the next couple of years are going to suck. They haven't said much about the following two years. Maybe they don't think it will matter by that point.

Tariffs are basically a sales tax.

Sales taxes are mostly regressive.

Will there be big tariffs on yachts and private jets? Or mainly stuff ordinary folks buy?
Are you kidding? They will add a double bonus tax cut for buying your 2nd, 3rd, or 4th yacht and plane. With the limited number of people that can afford those things they need to incentivize people to buy more than one to keep the poor luxury yacht manufacturers in business.

So I just watched a brief convo with Trudeau from today stating there was a good talk, etc etc.
I think that’s a good start and we shall see.

I do wonder why these tariffs are just limited to our three largest? Are there no other trade partners included in this effort?

Not unless you also want to repeal favored nation status. Then you can say goodbye to Argentine and Brazilian beef, as well as leather goods, and gemstones. But

NAFTA is a trade agreement, put into place by 41. This new idea is disregarding all trade agreements, starting with NAFTA.

Mexico new President, Claudia Sheinaum, already said the country would retaliate against President Trump's new tariff proposal with Canada's Justin Trudeau expected to follow.

The top 1% pay less than half the taxes despite having over 95% of all the money. If they don't want to shoulder as much of the tax burden as they do then they need to get more money into the workers so they can pay more as well. Or just spend hundreds of billions buying an election so they can just cut all the taxes for themselves and transfer it to everyone else.
You know envy is one of the 7 deadly sins right?

You just spit out the propaganda and don't even take 2 seconds to check what is real and what isn't. Your brain is full of stuff that is demonstrably untrue.

"How much wealth does the top 1% own?

As of 2023, the top 1% of American households owned 30.0% of net worth, or 30 cents of every dollar. This has risen from 22.8% in 1990 and 28.4% at the start of the 2008 recession, but is lower than a 2021 peak of 30.9%.

The total net worth of the top 1% in 2023 was $43.0 trillion."
