Teske committs to PSU

Sorry. Didn't realize it was on the 14 page thread. Is there anyway to delete an entire thread? Mine? :)

As much as you want to keep top in state recruits, this one was especially difficult. When you recruit a generational talent the year before and both are projected to be lifers at the same weight, it is hard to expect the coaches to press him that hard and for Teske himself to just dive in.

Now, if Teske were at any other weight but 197 or 165, you should really worry about not keeping him. But, he isn't and this isn't a loss that does any damage.

I wanted him to go to ISU. Just the thought of him at PSU makes me vomit.

I wouldn’t boo a kid, just not me and not a fan of anyone that would. When thinking of this I think about two other situations from out of state that we have been the benefactor. Spencer Lee had to sting PA unbelievably. Mark Perry not choosing OSU probably caused holes in the wall. You have to go where you believe you fit in whether you will or not is a totally different question. I hate seeing anyone from anywhere going to PSU.

*this is an unedited, and pretty telling, quote from IAWrestle. Not sure of the rules regarding the word in this situation.

“This season I really want to focus on having fun and perfecting the little things within the sport.” Teske added on his season goals.

Teske stated in the interview that his decision wasn't based on $, fwiw.
In the DMR article he states the $ was right along with other things.

“I saw all the other schools and took unofficial visits, but I went back to Penn State on the first week I could take an official,” Teske told the Register. “Once I stepped on campus, saw how they trained, and got around the guys, I fell in love. The time, the place, the money – everything was right. I’m ready to jump in and be a Nittany Lion.”

Major foul by IAWrestling with that quote. Get it together!

rumor mill is that he is getting less (what that is defined as is only further rumor) than what was offered by ISU and also what had been allocated to suriano.

So while psu doesnt have a talent like NS in the room and that just may cost us a NC, this was a big get for PSU (bigger than some fans might want to admit) cause I personally dont think we land McHenry and this plugs a whole for 4-5 years (teaz wrestling next year and brody RS). PSU doesnt need to have a NC here if they can get 3-4 AAs and maybe a high AA his jr/sr year. The other guys in this class are looked at as the NC high AA out of the gates.

also agree with the hawk fans and MSU that this is a bigger deal for ISU than you guys cause unless spencer is going up to 133 AND going this year at 125 the overlapping doesnt make sense in my mind.

Pretty much this. I think some are hopped up because he’s an Iowa kid and a probable 4 timer and think it’s a God given right that Iowa should land them. Where we missed the boat was on RBY IMO.

I still think out of the three, one is not going to see the mat or will be very limited.

It's as simple as this. Iowa has it's 125 and he's the best in the business. Iowa did not need Teske, so this isn't a loss for them. He would have been a big get for ISU.

Do we need another penis picture to kill this thread? 30+ pages wasted on PSU's 125'ers in the last 5-6 months.

Like I said. I tried to find a way to delete the thread right after I started it. Just didn't realize the link was already on the other thread

Exactly, I hope that this young man has a great career, even though it will not be here at Iowa. But the hard reality is that he was not likely to beat Spencer Lee and was likely not going to be big enough to wrestle at a higher weight.

I hate to see adults disparage kids, especially young wrestlers that work so hard to build themselves up to a D1 level recruit, so I say this cautiously...but if I had to pick one...I am glad that Lee is here in Iowa City. Go Hawks! And best wishes to Mr. Teske too!

Congrats to Brody. Hope he is indeed a career 125 guy. I will cheer for him occasionally but not anytime he steps on the mat against an Iowa team.

I'm looking at it this way... What if this is good sign of things to come in the next few weeks?

Something to really consider here gents...

Well, Gavin flipped - is he going to flop now?

I'm sure PSU said the same about Spencer.

& your philosophy got us in the hole we are in now.
My Philosophy???? My entire post was 20 words long and from that you were able to nail down my entire wrestling and recruiting opinion and philosophy???

So you think it's not good to keep top notch Iowa talent in Iowa? You think keeping Teske in Iowa puts us in a hole? Not sure I follow you. It's great to get out of state kids but you can't afford to lose out on top notch talent in your own back yard either.... I think my philosophy on that is right on the mark. Congrats to Teske, he will do great at PSU but keeping him at Iowa most certainly would not put the Hawkeye program "in the hole" as you said...

Why are people convinced that Teske will never see the mat? I think he'll have a similar career to Jordan Conway, and he was able to find his way onto the mat for 3 seasons. Matt McCutcheon, Jimmy Gulibon...etc several guys have started multiple years for PSU without being national champion superstars. If he sees himself as a career 125, there wasn't a spot for him at Iowa. This board overrates every single state of Iowa kid, and throws a fit when they go someplace else.

No we missed the boat on Silva. He'd have been the perfect 133 for us.

If this was directed at me, I should probably have been more clear. I just meant they really aren't gaining the points that ISU would have. IMO, BT won't be the difference in them winning a title or not, when you consider the other guys around the weight that they have, in addition. I could be wrong, that happened once before.

And this is where we disagree. RBY is athletic as all hell...you can't coach that plus Iowa needs more of it. However, you can teach RBY how to handfight and shoot and finish from ties. Combine that with his speed and he would have been a formidable wrestler under Terry who btw, has very high opinion of RBY.

We missed the boat on both RBY and Silva. I think we'd all be happy as hell with either.

Less of one area can easily be more of another.
