Thanks again Tony

Ulis still has a bit of a ways to go, but I think he will get there. His mistakes were a big part of the reason Michigan was able to cut the lead down to 7 towards the end. But he did come back and made some key plays on defense late too.

Perkins is there now as a complementary player. He may never be a primary or secondary scorer in his career. But you need guys that play defense and fill whatever role you need out of them and he is showing the ability to do that great lately.

Plus he damn near had that great breakaway dunk that he clanged off of the back of the rim in the last home game. That high school dunk clip that was posted earlier looked exactly like the one he missed, so that must be a go to move of his in the open court.

JT and AU spen too much time dribbling. Tony has elevated himself by keeping busy in the motion offense. The movement is opening driving lanes for him. The other two are stuck in trying to force the drive
Watch him whenever a shot goes up, he immediately goes to the glass.

Seems like he was pretty well coached growing up, and he went to HS a few miles from me.

Yes they both tend to dribble a lot because they aren't much offensive threats themselves. Neither has a good jump shot or great dribble drive game.

The new rotation pattern that Fran has come up with seems to be working...often pairing JoeT and Ulis as defensive stoppers to give starters a breather. If CMAC and Perkins both keep shooting well, it will continue to be low PT for JoeT and Ulis.

Tony has been such a nice surprise these last ten games, his confidence is growing game by game and his size makes him a beast on the defensive side. Fran seems to be gaining more and more trust in him too.

Love the kid. Indeed, this is one of the most likable teams Iowa has put on the floor in a long time. Tony might not be a double figure scorer this year but I think he will next year. Plus, Joey T and Tony P will be the two best starting guards defensively that we've put in the floor since maybe Ronnie and Kenny or Kenny and Kevin Boyle and maybe the best in the Big 10.

Doesn’t hurt that Tony is spending most of his minutes on the court with the starters. More reliable scoring options and better spacing has its advantages.

Don’t get me wrong, I like how he’s developing his skills and playing freed up now compared to maybe forcing things earlier when he was coming off the bench but there is a bit of difference with his view now compared to then.
