It is better but a long way from good.
One good sign:
Rushing yards per carry:
6.0 vs Illinois State
5.4 vs Iowa State

Nice post, but I think the median yards per carry is a much better yardstick than the mean....Johnson had 4 very big gains and quite a few stuffs for negative or no gainOne good sign:

Illinois St, Troy and a depleated ISU defense.Facts don't lie. KJ leads the nation in rushing yards. OL must be doing something right.
K, and how is that different than say last year when we didn't do close to that good against similar teams?Illinois St, Troy and a depleated ISU defense.

It is definitely different in a good way. I think people are still kind of in show me mode given the quality of the opposing defenses and the inconsistency they have shown. particularly in the passing game. This next game should provide another/better measuring stick to see how much different it is given some of the limitations that are still apparent.K, and how is that different than say last year when we didn't do close to that good against similar teams?
Agreed, except for short yardage situations. They get no push at all.Run blocking has been fantastic thus far. We've had a few lapses on pass blocking, but def better than last year.
I would say it has been very inconsistent. The first half against both Illinois State and Troy as well as the second half against ISU were not stellar.Run blocking has been fantastic thus far. We've had a few lapses on pass blocking, but def better than last year.
KJ had 100 yards at halftime against Troy. Run blocking must have been pretty good.I would say it has been very inconsistent. The first half against both Illinois State and Troy as well as the second half against ISU were not stellar.
Last years OL was underrated imo for pass pro. I thought it looked worse than it really was at times because first Cade due to injury and then Hill had no mobility in the pocket, so they were sitting ducks for opposing Ds to tee off on.Part of the o-line has been better in run blocking.
There is minimal improvement in pass pro. Additionally it looks slightly better because Cade has decent pocket awareness despite his limited mobility.
We'll start to see now what they can do against the mediocre B1G teams that make up the majority of their schedule.
True. We had also scored only 10 points and 7 of his 11 rushes were for 3 yards or less.KJ had 100 yards at halftime against Troy. Run blocking must have been pretty good.
Whole bunch of people prolly owe this kid an apology.

Yep. Stats can be deceiving. On the other hand, many will say that that's how our running game is supposed to work. Eventually you bust a big one.Nice post, but I think the median yards per carry is a much better yardstick than the mean....Johnson had 4 very big gains and quite a few stuffs for negative or no gain
Hey @Franisdaman so he is ahead of Proctor thus far this season? Both are left OT.
Unblocked rushers seem to be a pattern. To my uneducated eye.... I saw a lot of things to fix in the OL vs. Troy.
They had that one BIG BOY on the d-line that kicked our lines a$$ numerous times with his pass rush.... Completely destroyed with bull rushes. The most concerning thing is when we have assignment breakdowns and leave rushers unblocked!
Too slow of feet??Unblocked rushers seem to be a pattern.
Too complex of a scheme???
Can we acknowledge that the OL is solid? 4 sacks allowed through 4 games. A total of 17 TFLs given up through 4 games. 6.0 yards per rush tonight.
The pass blocking isn't the problem. It's the passer.OL has been great when we’re running the ball. I know they haven’t given up many sacks, but think they’ve been underwhelming pass blocking. Cade has struggled but the passing game problems seem to be at all levels. Today we had receivers with drops, bad passes, and a number of instances where Cade had defenders in his face pretty quickly.
Go to the 3-minute mark in this highlight reel - there are back-to-back plays where the left side of the OL didn’t even have an approach. Well…the approach was… don’t block anybody 🤷🏼♂️
And you can’t have #4 giving that kind of sub-par effort shown in the second play where Cade throws it up for grabs.
Yeah. It's hard to pick on the oline with the nation's leading rusher. The lack of any kind of passing game makes it all the more impressive. It's going to really be uphill vs OSU. Hard to believe that Brown won't get a shot vs his old team. The OL is vastly improved. We have the nation's leading rusher. Don't expect the idiots around here to do anything but hate though.
That was some of the best zone blocking I have seen in years! The Iowa offensive line totally dominated Minnesota in the second half. PJ looked like someone stepped on his nuts.
To expect a perfectly clean pocket every throw is not realistic. A good qb is going to maneuver to a degree and we’ve only seen Cade be able to do that a limited amount.OL has been great when we’re running the ball.
