The New WBB Recruiting Thread

Nice win by the Hawks at Wisconsin tonight, they came through after trying to give it away to the Badgers. Disterhoft, Jennings, & Buttenham played well. Peschel showed signs of coming around but still struggled with turnovers as did Kastanek.

Bre Cera back in action last night. Was released from doctor Thursday night and played Friday night. Had 16 pts. 5 rebounds and 5 assists

Jinaya Houston with 25 last night as Davenport North beat Bettendorf by 25. Crislyn Carr had 11 - 3 pointers and 43 for West. As I recall she had 35 last week when North beat West.

Had never heard of Carr before (despite living in Davenport). She's a freshman? How tall? Play AAU with Brea Beal?

She's a sophmore I think, and not very tall, maybe 5' 3". If I have my story straight she would have been at Davenport Central, but Saladino the West coach hired her dad as an assistant. I don't think she plays AAU with Brea Beal, or hasn't in the past. I have only watched her a couple of times, and/but she has an attitude, and not saying that's always bad. She reminds me of a smaller Mitchell PG at Ohio State. She can dribble, stop, and pop a 3 right in your face from the top of the circle. Because of her size, I have not idea what college level she would play at, but I really like her game.

Chrislyn Carr is awesome and is div 1 easily. I have seen her 4 times this year alone and her 40+ point game last year as a freshmen, she is every bit as quick as our two guards at Iowa, they will/colleges be beating her door down. Last nights game was a record 11 3-pointers and season high 43 points. When she breaks for the full length of the court, no body in high school ranks can stay with her. I might be tad bias just a bit.;)

Jinaya Houston I have seen play 5 games this year and all I can say is WOW, she has a complete game, can't brag enough about her, just so glad she's going to be a Hawk.

Soph Bradford of north teammate of Houston's is more than a horse, when she gets down low and gets set you can't stop her. I think Oakhawk said once that Bluder is keeping a eye on her. She had 27 points Saturday night against Cedar Rapids Washington in a loss and she also can hit the 3.

Hey BGHAWK have you noticed the striking similarities to Tania Davis and Chrislyn Carr in looks, size and game. Crazy!

Last years game as a freshman, Carr broke the school record with 46 points. She might be someone fun to watch over these next 2 1/2 years.

If someone would post this video for me I would appreciate this as I'm having trouble figuring it out on this IPAD.

YouTube: Davenport West's Chrislyn Carr - Quad City Times

Thank you kindly.

Amanda Ollinger had 18 points and 15 rebounds in a win over Xavier. In the previous game she had 21 points and 10 rebounds in a win over defending champs Waukee.
Makenzie Meyer had 23 points and 11 rebounds in her teams win.

Grace Cumming and Zoe Young visit Iowa.
A couple of 2019s.
Zoe is a 5-9 guard at DM Valley
Grace is a 6-2 post at DM Roosevelt

Houston 25 points in a win over D Central.

Chrislyn Carr just a soph at Dav West continues to impress with 24 points , 12 in the 4th quarter to take game over.

OakHawk do you know if Bluder is keeping Tabs on her ? I would think so but just wondering if she has or not.

Not oak but I hope so. Maybe some baggage or attitude? W wonder how tall she is

I've known Saladino for a long time and talk to him now and then. Don't no why I'm asking on this board, I'll just ask him and find out what I can. My two girls are on the future Falcons team 8-10 year old's and he is there for our Tournaments some times.

It has been quiet on the Harris front. Iowa is in her final 6, but haven't heard anything.
Chrislyn Carr is 5-3. Quick little guard that gets lots of steals. She shoots 40% from three, and takes a lot of them.

I went to the between #3 Iowa City High (Courtney and Ashley Joens, Kenya Earl) and Jaime Printy Brandt's #8 Linn-Mar with Amanda Ollinger ans Soph guard Kathryn Finley.
It was a good back and forth game. L M got the early lead and led by 8 at the half. City came out with a full court press and soon were up by 8.
Then Ollinger took over and LM pulled off the upset 69-60.
Amanda had 30 points, 18 rebounds , and at least 7 blocks. She also held Courtney Joens to 6 points.
Ashley Joens had around 20 , most from posting up down low and FT.Finley also had 20, most from 3pt.
On a side note, Jaime is expecting her first child in July.

I spoke to Harris's high school coach last week. I don't know how public her decision process has been, but apparently she has narrowed her choices down to Iowa and South Carolina. Coach Bluder is holding that scholarship for her and her alone. If she doesn't pick Iowa, they will carry it over.

Heritage Christian's Tyasha Harris takes long look at recruiting
Kyle Neddenriep , kyle.neddenriep@indystar.comJul 7, 2015

Tyasha Harris is ranked as the No. 10 girls basketball recruiting prospect in the country by ESPN. She can name her school, almost literally. The Heritage Christian 5-10 senior-to-be has 54 scholarship offers. Fifty-four. 54.

[...] Harris has her eyes wide open going into the recruiting process, well aware of the transfer issues that plague both the men's and women's game. Along with her parents, Bruce and Shannon Harris, she's looking for the best "family" fit, not necessarily the program with the best facilities or most impressive trophy case.

"You see how many transfers there are after one or two years,"
Harris said.

It's easy to see why Harris is in demand [...] She loves to pass. Harris could score more than the 17.5 points she averaged last year as a junior for Class 2A state champion Heritage Christian. But taking more shots would also steal some of the joy Harris has for the game. Finding a cutting teammate for a layup through a seam in the defense gets her as pumped as a pull-up jumper, probably more.

"My favorite thing to do is make my teammates better,"
said Harris, who had 20 points, seven assists and six rebounds in a sterling performance in the 2A state finals against Fort Wayne Canterbury. "A lot of people like to score, which I can do, but I like to see my teammates get joy out of it too. I feel like coming down the court and doing a little shake and bake and passing to a teammate gets as much 'oohs' and 'ahs' from the crowd as a step-back 3. There are more things to basketball than scoring."

It's a gift Harris possesses. She can see a play happening before it materializes. It happened multiple times during Tuesday's scrimmages, including a baseball pass from beyond halfcourt to a sprinting teammate under the basket that resulted in an easy bucket.

"My teammates know they have to be looking for the ball,"
she said. "I'll see you."

Heritage Christian girls do it again, claiming another basketball state title
Kyle Neddenriep, kyle.neddenriep@indystar.comMar 8, 2015

It is the second consecutive state title for top-ranked Heritage Christian, which won four titles from 2006-09...

"When you have good players, you can coach pretty well,"
said Heritage Christian coach Rick Risinger...

Canterbury had no answer for [5-11] Heritage Christian junior Tyasha Harris, who finished with 20 points, seven assists and six rebounds... Risinger, a former Richmond star and member of the 1969 IndyStar Indiana All-Star team, credited Harris' all-round game.

"She does a great job in doing what it takes for the team," he said. "She can score a whole lot more points than what she does. She makes assists and rebounds and she does a great job of pulling her teammates with her. That's what makes us pretty strong from a program standpoint. It's not about any one, two or three players. Our strength of our program is that we have balance and we have everybody buying into that."

In making it to the 2A finals in back-to-back seasons, both Heritage Christian and Canterbury will move up to 3A for the next two-year cycle... Harris, Gilbert and 6-3 junior Darby Foresman will lead the Eagles into 3A next year.

Thanks for the link on the recruiting of Tyasha Harris, Cyber. If she's looking for the best "family fit", she ought to feel right at home at Iowa.

I thought I had better edit this by putting a comma between Harris and Cyber, so as not to confuse people with the last name. ha ha

That's encourageing news. I believe that she has not made an official public announcement yet, but her HS coach is certainly a credible source. I'm hoping.

HS girls basketball: Heritage Christian hands Columbus North first loss

Leading 54-53 with 2:48 to play, Heritage Christian’s IndyStar Miss Basketball candidate, Tyasha Harris, made her presence felt. Harris, who had been held scoreless since late in the first half, hit a jumper to push the lead to three, and followed by making three free throws in the final minute to put the game away. Harris finished with a game-high 23 points, 17 of which came in the first half.

“It was the best game of her career,” Risinger said. “Sometimes she’s more of a roll (sic) player for us, but she took her opportunities when she had them.”

In the process, Class 3A No. 2 Heritage Christian [previously class 2A] handed Class 4A top-ranked Columbus North (19-1) its first loss of the season. The teams won state titles last year in their respective classes.

Girls basketball: Cathedral, Heritage Christian in City final

HERITAGE CHRISTIAN 63, COVENANT CHRISTIAN 41:

The Eagles (15-2) jumped out to a big lead and never looked back against Class 2A No. 4 Covenant Christian (13-5). Heritage Christian led 26-9 lead midway through the second quarter and 48-21 late in the third. The Eagles used a balanced scoring effort led by Tyasha Harris, who scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Katlyn Gilbert added 12 points, while senior Darby Foresman chipped in 10 points.

“We’ve been working on balancing our scoring,” Heritage Christian coach Rick Risinger said. Tyasha is an exceptional scorer, but you need balance. We’ve been working on getting more balance in the scoring positions.”

The Eagles’ transition game flustered the Warriors at times. Covenant Christian finished with 13 turnovers. Covenant Christian coach Joe Smith left the game proud his team never gave up and impressed with Harris.

“She’s obviously such a great player,” he said. “She’s a legit Miss Basketball candidate. She’s so different than most girls because she can drive to the hoop, she’s long defensively and hard to get around and she can pop it at any moment.”
