The New WBB Recruiting Thread

Thanks everyone for the updates. Davenport North's first trip ever to state I think

Makenzie Meyer made it three-for-three for Hawk recruits going to State.
Makenzie had 14. She fouled out in the 4th, and then her FR sister, Megan, took over. She hit a 3 with 20 seconds left to send it to OT. She scored 11 of her game high19 in the 4th and OT.

Oak, is Megan Meyer a D1 prospect going forward?

I'm just hoping Stewart and Larson will contribute next year. I thought based on what Lisa said earlier that Hannah would be contributing this year, but she is hardly seeing the floor. A redshirt for those two might have helped down the road, but then of course that takes away a couple of spots later on.

I'm not Oak, but I have a feeling Alexis Sevillian is one that will contribute next year. But then, I've been wrong before as mentioned above.

Oakhawk,

Who do you feel will be able to come in and contribute next year?

Thx
Another view; hopefully anticipate Oakhawk's response. If (praying) Ty Harris chooses Iowa, Bluder, Iowa City, the close team bonding, a chance to build a legend here, she not only contributes comparably to Sam Logic, but with more talent & depth than Sam 's Hawkeyes , Harris teamed with Davis, Ally D & a deeper front court with more strength & toughness would/will hold its own with Maryland & Ohio State...and then some.

Apart from Harris, the other four newcomers are an impressive group. Expect the Iowans Meyer & Ollinger to contribute early---Meyer as a tough defender, ball handler, and eventually a scorer when it matters most. Ollinger on the boards & high percentage of limited 3-point attempts. And while not new arrivals, expect major contributions from Hannah Stewart, Butenham & most of all, a healthy Carly returning tougher & stronger than ever (losing her was the difference between being in the hunt in the BT this season.

you guys have no idea the defensive toughness and high motor Bre will bring. Can get to the basket whenever she wants and defended the best players for Midwest Elite in EYBL league while slowing them all down. She's not a sexy scorer just an aggressive attacker that makes others better with her High defensive and offensive IQ

I have a pretty good idea. I watched her play three or four times in AAU. I was always impressed with her defense and unselfish play. A lot of times she looked like the only player that really understood what to do. She locked down some pretty good players. I thought she should have looked for her offense more but figured she was trying to help out players that didn't have scholarship already. She has good size for a guard and some quickness.

Anaya Peoples and Arieal Scott mention. Iowa has offers out to both.

Danville Schlarman has two Class 1A first-team all-staters in girls basketball. Anaya Peoples is a freshman and has already been offered a scholarship by Kentucky, Alabama and seven Big Ten schools. Sophomore Arieal Scott is weighing offers from 23 Division I schools, including three in the Big Ten.

It's time for Iowa to get another good player or two from Illinois. Dixon worked out really well. Nichole Smith and Kayla Timmerman, not so much.

Nicole Smith is also from Illinois (Hononegah).

Wisconsin seems to be a fertile recruiting state.

Mason City and Makenzie Meyer won their opening state tournament game over #1 ranked and undefeated Western Dubuque, 47-39.
Makenzie had 10 points and 9 rebounds..

Nice win for Linn-Mar and Amanda Olinger with 25 pts. She's pretty impressive.

Naya with 18 for Dav North in a loss 56-52 to Ankeny Centennial. The good news is they are all coming back next year plus adding a couple of players for North.

Iowa targets Arieal Scott, Anaya Peoples, and Jayde VanHyfte all named first team all-state in Illinois.
Arieal won the 3pt contest at state for the second time.http://www.ihsa.org/IHSAState/IHSAS...s-1A-2A-Girls-Basketball-All-State-Teams.aspx

Arieal hit 11-15 threes to win.

Makenzie Meyer had 20 to lead Mason city over Keokuk 57-45. Sister Megan had 17. They will play on Saturday at 6pm for the 4A Championship.

Bre Cera's Mukwonago team continues to advance. She had 12 in their last game. They play Arrowhead, a team they have beaten twice, on Saturday.

And bre took their 18.5 a game scorer and made her life miserable. She held her to 1 for 18 shooting for two points and wasn't in the game for her 2 pts at the time. This girl was being recruited by Purdue but decided to go smaller. I'm telling you, Iowa needs help with defensive intensity, that's what bre is gonna bring immediately. She loves that part of the game

Plus she had 15 pts. 8 assists 3 blocks in a dog fight with a good Arrowhead team to advance to the state semifinals in Green Bay Next Friday night at 8:15.

With Wisconsin firing coach Kelsey today lets hope they don't hire someone who can turn that program around... would be much tougher to get the best players out of the state.

Makenzie Meyer scored 25, and Mason City won their first GBB title in school history. Final 51-44.
Amanda Ollinger had 17 points and 16 rebounds in a Semi-final loss to #1Johnston.

Makenzie Meyer and her Mason City teammates have something huge to celebrate as Meyer heads off to the University of Iowa -- a state championship.

Meyer scored 25 points and the Mohawks got back on track after losing a 10-point lead in beating Pella 51-44 to win the Class 4A title.

It's the first state championship for the Mohawks, who had never made it to the state tournament until 2011. They had just a 1-4 record in state tourney games before putting together three solid games to claim the title.

Meyer scored 10 of her team's final 12 points, including five free throws to wrap it up. The Iowa basketball recruit was steady at the line all week, making 29 of 31 shots. She was 13-for-14 in this one and added five rebounds.

Marci Wolters, who will play at North Iowa next season, chipped in with nine points for Mason City. Freshman Megan Meyer, Makenzie's sister, scored five points, including a 3-pointer that put the Mohawks ahead to stay at 39-37 with 6:57 left.

Ciara Buchheit led Pella with 14 points and Katie Vander Molen added 11.

Pella clawed back after training 27-17 late in the first half. The Lady Dutch scored seven straight points to grab a 32-31 lead late in the third quarter and led twice more, but never by more than one.

Annika Pingel gave Pella its final lead at 37-36 on a layup in the first minute of the fourth quarter. Megan Meyer then hit her big 3, Makenzie followed with a jumper in the lane and then added a long 3 of her own from the top of the key.

That made it 44-37 and Pella never got closer than five points after that before Makenzie Meyer finished things at the free throw line.

Mason City was toughened by a Class 5A schedule so the Mohawks were ready at tournament time. They finished 18-8 after facing five teams that qualified for the 5A tournament, including top-ranked Johnston, a team the Mohawks beat 51-50.

Pella, also the state runner-up in 2008, had a 21-game winning streak broken and finished 23-3.

Meyer looked efficient. Extremely good on free throws, nice on 3-pointers, decent on drives. At 5' 10" she should be a pleasant addition.

Any chance that Jan Jensen gets a look for Wisconsin or any other big openings?
Badgers women's basketball: Barry Alvarez wants next coach to emphasize state recruits

Alvarez indicated he and senior women’s administrator Terry Gawlik will be looking for someone with head coaching experience this time...
Veteran coaches whose names will come up for vacancies this year include former Duke and Texas coach Gail Goestenkors, Dayton coach Jim Jabir, Florida Gulf Coast coach Karl Smesko and Toledo coach Tricia Cullop.
Among younger coaches, one of the most popular names is Jennie Baranczyk, 34, who has a 68-54 record in four seasons at Drake. The Bulldogs beat the Badgers the past two seasons. Baranczyk, then Jennie Lillis, was a standout player at Iowa.
