The New WBB Recruiting Thread

Nice 'scoop' Jockos! Now I am a bit surprised because I thought she very well might choose Vanderbilt when they announced Stephanie White as HC. I wonder if the new staff at Vanderbilt decided to hold the scholarship for a forward or center in 2017. Anyway, Nebraska's loss is Iowa's gain. This does make the 2016 class 'lop-sided' with four guards. Iowa's roster was heavy with forwards last year but that will change for sure next fall. I can hardly wait!

BTW, I appreciate all your comments Jockos. I was just speaking 'tongue-in-cheek' because the thread had gotten a bit off topic, but it's all good.

Kathleen was also POY for Illinois. Here is a great article about her...

No problem Cyber...
Oak - I remember you said Kathleen was ranked #20 overall by Blue Star, #108 by PN, #97 by ESPN. Any idea why BS's ranking is much higher?

Women's recruit rankings are pretty arbitrary. Most just see the players at big AAU events. they watch so many games that if you don't really stand out in the one game they see you don't get the top rankings.
ESPN and Prospect Nation are usually much different than Blue Star and ASGR. I tend to trust the latter two more. A girl can be top 40 in one ranking and not even in the Top 100 in another. You can't really know how they will perform in college until you see them in action against other proven college players.
I know Iowa's 2016s have all been 4 star , top 100 by one service or another. And the class as a whole has been ranked in the top 20. I would guess with the addition of Kathleen they might make a few more lists.
The four Guards in this class are all versatile and complete players. It might be the best defensive set they have had, and they can handle the ball and score.

Doyle is a great trade for Whitney and I was sorry to see her leave. The team is getting bigger and more skilled, future looks bright!!!

Oak,

Ok, where does this leave us with 2017 recruiting. How many scholarships available (1 or 2). Assuming the 1st ride has to be for a Post type player.

Not oakhawk, but the first spot is going to Jinaya Houston from Davenport North. If there is another spot available, they need another center.

As it now stands, the Hawks have one more scholarship they could use for 2016. I doubt they will at this point. That would give them 4 for 2017. Jinaya is one verbal. that leaves 3.
SR Disterhoft, Kastanek, Schneden
JR Coley, Buttenham
SO Mohns(RS) Davis, Stewart, Gustafson
FR Cera, Ollinger, Meyer, Sevillian, Doyle

Thanks Oak- didn't realize they had that many rides.

The great thing with having Davis, Sevillian, and now Doyle (all PGs) to go along with the Buttenham,Meyer, Cera, and Jinaya- that give Lisa some bodies/depth at the 1,2 & 3 position. Can focus 2017 on some posts.

I would have loved to see them also add the Missouri prep post who had verballed to Kentucky. Where did she end up?

Madison Treece is the Missouri girl. Haven't seen any info on her. She said she wanted to go to a school that was in the Sweet 16 every year.

She is a 2017 graduate. I believe she is still uncommitted. Her sister plays for Oklahoma. She played AAU last summer for AIA with Mackenzie, Amanda, and Jinaya. I think she may have visited Iowa but can't swear to that.

This years recruits add that much needed guard depth and hopefully can bring better/more consistent perimeter shooting. It is needed to help balance the court allowing Megan/Chase to operate effectively in the post/high post. Looking forward to seeing them in action and if Alexa Kastanek can regain her early season 2015/16 form the offense will be much improved.

Landing Doyle is a great get. A faster, better shooting/scoring clone of Sam Logic. Doesn't have Sam's strength (don't think she ever will) but will be a major contributor from day 1.

Its also a great insurance policy if Davis should ever get hurt. Davis certainly isn't shy about taking hard fouls and I hope she stays healthy. Where as it was a defensive liability to have Jennings and Davis on the court at the same time, Doyle is much taller and stronger- so Lisa will have the luxury of playing them side by side.

I think it will be interesting where Sevillan fits next year or if she will redshirt her or perhaps Meyer. Recognize Lisa doesn't redshirt many girls- so will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Iowa doesn't really RS players. Lisa says she likes to keep the RS year for injuries.
What I would really like to see is constant full court pressure , rotating the guards to keep them fresh.
Iowa usually doesn't press and hardly ever traps, but with all the guard depth...

Like the idea. Might also help keep some pressure off the bigs where the lack of depth might be a concern.

Here is one that I had not heard about in this thread. She is listed here by ESPNW as a 6'5" three star (90 scout grade) from Homewood-Flossmoor IL. No schools are listed. I wonder if Iowa is recruiting her and if there could be any mutual interest.

CLASS: 2017

Wonder if Iowa's class will now get bumped into top 20 with the addition of Doyle?

Blue Star moved the Hawks to #7 after she committed.
They have the B1G ranked #1 as a conference for 2016 (Maryland #1, OSU #4)
in order of ranking:
1. Maryland
2. Ohio State
3. Iowa
4. Michigan
5. Wisconsin
6. Michigan State
7. Northwestern
8. Purdue

Individual rankings for Iowa 2016:
#20 Doyle
#79 Ollinger
#84 Cera
#91 Sevillian
#120 Meyer
Strangely, ESPN has Meyer as the top rated of the bunch.

At least this means the rankings have their own criteria and are not copying from each other.

Here are Prospect Nations rankings
Amanda Ollinger - Overall #40 / Position #8
Bre Cera - Overall #105 / Position #17
Kathleen Doyle - Overall #108 / Position #17

Makenzie Meyer & Alexis Sevillian aren't ranked. Ranking are really all over the place for this class. As of the early signing period/prior to Doyle's signing PN ranked the Iowa class #23 nationally & #5 in the BIG (Maryland, OSU, Michigan, MSU.)

Take these rankings lightly. I was talking to one of the coaches that stated espn will show up to one big event and maybe see the kid play one game and they get ranked based on that. Blue Star seems to be the most accurate because they are at way more tournaments and study these kids a little more closely. You also get the top, top programs that espn is partial to and if a kid goes there, like a Maryland, their ranking is automatically higher than another kid who's truly better.

Other B1G schools...
Michigan 16
Wisconsin 22
MSU 27
NW 37
Purdue 38
Neb 42
Ill 46
HM (Honorable Mention)
Minnesota, Penn State
I don't see a ranking for Indiana and Rutgers.

How does the PG spot get sorted out? Assuming Davis and Doyle compete for starter, where does that leave Sevellian, if not the bench?

Assuming that Tania Davis recovers from shoulder surgery 100% I'd say its her job to lose. The incoming guards are all versatile & can play the 1, 2 or the 3 (if need be) in the offense. Competition should be fierce for playing time which will only make the team better.

I wonder if they are counting a top transfer from Kentucky and a top transfer from South Carolina in UCONN's total.

Their transfers were from Kentucky and Duke.

Azura Stevens transfers from Duke to UConn, to sit out 2016-17 season

UConn lands Kentucky transfer Batouly Camara

I doubt that they are counted since they are not eligible until 2017. According to ESPNW, they have a five star (number 3 over all) and two three stars and a class ranking of 14. That still seems too high to me. Compare them to Virginia (#19) which has two five stars and a four star.

The team trials for the under 17 USA World CHAMPIONSHIP roster are ongoing. After three rounds of cuts they are at 41 players. Twelve will make the team. These are players from 2017 and younger. There are four Iowa targets left:
2018 5-10 Abby Prohaska from Ohio.
2018 Katlyn Gilbert 5-11 Indiana
2019 Zoe Young 5-10 Iowa
2019 Breanna Beal 6-1 Illinois

2017 Taylor Kissinger 6-1 Nebraska and 2019 Anaya Peoples 5-10 Illinois both made it through two cuts (down to 73) .

Madison Treece, who participated in tryouts last year, apparently did not this year.

Also, I noticed that Grace Berg did try out and made it through the first cut before getting cut in the second round.

USABwu17 - Love how simple Taylor Kissinger is making the game. Not overdoing it. Making the right plays and being effective.
