Had to do this early… hoping Iowa can play a hard nosed game and whip these punks asses … would love to see some up and coming players have a big game for some hope for the future… let’s send out these stand out seniors like Nick Jackson and Jay Higgins in style with a big win. Last game until the long offseason so go Hawks!

Sounds about right honestly unless we can get some turnovers and short fields. Kind of w/@hawk4sure that while this game from a National standpoint doesn't really mean much, them being a border rival and a pretty fertile recruiting ground it would certainly be nice to get a win. And also being an SEC school now. Turnovers on one end and none on the other and we have a chance.

If this really is, finally, Tim Lester's offense, then Iowa will come out with Sullivan throwing off RPO and play action with few drop backs. If I were Lester and I had this opportunity to showcase my offense, I'd throw on the first six plays and I'd do so in a hurry-up, no huddle. I would throw several quick slants to Wetjen, I'd hit the TEs up the seam, I'd target the RBs on wheel routes, and I'd send Wetjen, Gill, and others straight down the field for the long passes we haven't seen much of in the last five or six years. Iowa needs to throw at least 25 passes today, and I mean passes down the field, not swing passes to the RB.

As much as some people make offense out to be rocket science, it just ain't. Throw receivers open. Hit the timing throws. Run on passing downs, throw on running downs--and especially throw on first down. Throw to open up the run. I don't want to see any more off tackle dive plays, especially not on first down.

Run some trick plays. Let's get aggressive and have some fun. To hell with this stuff of punting from the opponent's 40 on 4th and 1. Do you see how everyone else in the country plays this game? Let's do it like that for a change.

There are no excuses. Iowa has a brilliant opportunity to show the portal guys they have some talent and they have a modern offense that can throw the ball. Lester HAS to take full advantage of that today. They've had weeks to get things goin'. Let 'er rip.

Hope you're right.

The Hawks are a run first team and I don't think that's changing. But I hope Sully has time to find his receivers and is accurate when it's time to pass it. The game as usual will be dictated by line play, field position and turn overs.
27-24 good guys

But it can't be done. Don't you know if you do that it hurts the defense and we're playing chess and the other team is playing checkers winning with 5 first downs? Also I'll have some of what you're smoking if you think any of that is going to happen! But I'd love to see it.

Fun thought. I don't expect it.

However, this is really the first time Lester has had an opportunity to spend a lot of time game planning with Sully taking the snaps. So, I do expect the game plan to be far less conservative than against Debbie.

I think throwing on first down will be a must. Mizzou will game plan to stop the run (shocking!). If the Hawks are 3rd and 8 all day it's not going to have a happy ending.

The other thing I will say is that this have been Lester's offense all year long! But an OC still has to be dialed into the overall game plan.

With our offense, if anyone scores more than 20 we lose.
You have to score a lot of points. Iowa failed to score 21 points in 5 games this year going 1-4 in those games. It's become relatively rare to win college games anymore when scoring less than 21 points. Out of 31 bowl games so far this year, Nebraska is the only team to win a bowl game this year while scoring less than 21.
