Iowa - 38
Missouri - 17
If this really is, finally, Tim Lester's offense, then Iowa will come out with Sullivan throwing off RPO and play action with few drop backs. If I were Lester and I had this opportunity to showcase my offense, I'd throw on the first six plays and I'd do so in a hurry-up, no huddle. I would throw several quick slants to Wetjen, I'd hit the TEs up the seam, I'd target the RBs on wheel routes, and I'd send Wetjen, Gill, and others straight down the field for the long passes we haven't seen much of in the last five or six years. Iowa needs to throw at least 25 passes today, and I mean passes down the field, not swing passes to the RB.
As much as some people make offense out to be rocket science, it just ain't. Throw receivers open. Hit the timing throws. Run on passing downs, throw on running downs--and especially throw on first down. Throw to open up the run. I don't want to see any more off tackle dive plays, especially not on first down.
Run some trick plays. Let's get aggressive and have some fun. To hell with this stuff of punting from the opponent's 40 on 4th and 1. Do you see how everyone else in the country plays this game? Let's do it like that for a change.
There are no excuses. Iowa has a brilliant opportunity to show the portal guys they have some talent and they have a modern offense that can throw the ball. Lester HAS to take full advantage of that today. They've had weeks to get things goin'. Let 'er rip.
