*****The Official Iowa vs Missouri Game Thread*****

Honest Question:

In times past, I heard the saying (relevant since it's Us vs. Missouri today)
"If you peel off the Southern 2 tiers of counties from Iowa and give them to Missouri, it will make both states smarter".

Can anyone on here confirm or deny this saying?
I live too far away from that border to know.

Besides Gill we honestly have nobody that has done anything. Otherwise it's tight end or bust. Johnson caught 22 balls and he's obviously out. Man I'd just like to see a few screen passes if that's still a thing in our offense.

Yes, I grew up 5 minutes from the Missouri border and that was a saying. There is also a similar one that the IQ drops when you get south of Hwy 92.

It used to be said but MO has pretty much equaled or surpased Iowa on measures.

Ive lived in Mo and did college and grad school there. I took it that Iowans were super sensitive about being Iowa average.

Sorry fellas. I know many of you were expecting to come on here today to get in one more rant about the state of Iowa football and the Ferentz Way following a loss to Missouri @QChawks but circumstances have changed, and we're gonna need to win today's game instead.

I get that this will disappoint many of you, but you need to understand there is a bigger game at hand here, and that trumps portions of our fanbase wanting us to lose so we can get to the end of the Ferentz Era quicker.

For those of you that fall under this category, you may commence with the complaining..............

If this really is, finally, Tim Lester's offense, then Iowa will come out with Sullivan throwing off RPO and play action with few drop backs. If I were Lester and I had this opportunity to showcase my offense, I'd throw on the first six plays and I'd do so in a hurry-up, no huddle. I would throw several quick slants to Wetjen, I'd hit the TEs up the seam, I'd target the RBs on wheel routes, and I'd send Wetjen, Gill, and others straight down the field for the long passes we haven't seen much of in the last five or six years. Iowa needs to throw at least 25 passes today, and I mean passes down the field, not swing passes to the RB.

As much as some people make offense out to be rocket science, it just ain't. Throw receivers open. Hit the timing throws. Run on passing downs, throw on running downs--and especially throw on first down. Throw to open up the run. I don't want to see any more off tackle dive plays, especially not on first down.

Run some trick plays. Let's get aggressive and have some fun. To hell with this stuff of punting from the opponent's 40 on 4th and 1. Do you see how everyone else in the country plays this game? Let's do it like that for a change.

There are no excuses. Iowa has a brilliant opportunity to show the portal guys they have some talent and they have a modern offense that can throw the ball. Lester HAS to take full advantage of that today. They've had weeks to get things goin'. Let 'er rip.
I want what you’re smoking 😊

The northeast of Iowa is the southwestern edge of what's known to geologists as the Driftless Area. The southern third of Iowa down through Missouri is what's known to anthropologists as the Toothless Area.

The greatest master mechanic on the planet can't fix a car without the right parts.

Iowa fans optimistic that the offense it’s gonna come out firing 🫤

A tale as old as time
I am fully expecting a 3 and out and a turnover the 1st 2 Iowa possessions , Typical of Iowa against competent defenses . I will be pleasantly surprised with anything better than that Iowa has started slow all Year .

Hate to break it to you, but none of that is going to happen, save maybe the TE seam route.

You have to score a lot of points. Iowa failed to score 21 points in 5 games this year going 1-4 in those games. It's become relatively rare to win college games anymore when scoring less than 21 points. Out of 31 bowl games so far this year, Nebraska is the only team to win a bowl game this year while scoring less than 21.
Kirk *snorts* at that stat. Didn't you watch the Iowa - Nebraska game? a lot of points are not needed to win

They've also scored more than 30 in 6 games this year. 40 in 4 of them.

Agree 100%, big Gill fan - we might need to Crean some of the other WRs on the roster... 🤞

Right. They went 6-0 in those games. As I said, you have to score a lot of points in today's game. 20 or less and you're most likely walking away with a loss, even with a very good defense. They'll need more than that today.
