The Starters Cannot ....

Everyone seems to give Weezy a pass, but his perimeter defense is equally bad. Nunge is a much better defender than Garza, I wouldn’t consider him as part of that group.

Nunge is a better defender because he's more willing to collect a foul,.. Garza could easily be a better defender but he would have to open up to the possibility of fouling more and I'm not sure that's what we want him to do...

Wheezy getting drafted? By whom? Which professional league features players that disappear for several games?
I cannot honestly believe that there are folks here who think Whezy is ready for the big time. Wow!
Fran is not starting the right 5. tOSU is a good team, too. I predicted a long time ago Iowa was a 5-7 loss team this year...they are gonna have to step on it to accomplish that goal. I am a little disappointed in this team, I thought they might have been a tad better than they have shown to date. Lots of really tough games coming up, too.

I'm an ISU fan who is basically checked out of college basketball this year, but I tuned in to the second half of yesterday's game after dinner.

This team is so much like a Hoiberg team it's insane. Statistically and the way they play, even how the roster is kind of set up.

Rebounding and defense will be a problem. It's just a feature of the program. All of that said, you didn't have CJF. This team really clicks when you have CJF, Weiskamp, and JBo. I think Iowa will still be in line for a 2 or 3 seed. That means you'll be playing an auto bid team in the first round and like a 7 seed in the next round. That could easily be a team like Oklahoma State or Colorado, which are teams Iowa would probably just absolutely crush. They could also go 5-25 from 3 and lose, but I honestly think that's unlikely.

My point is, this is still a very highly ranked team for a reason. You probably aren't going to win the Big 10. I think fans need to get past that and appreciate this season for what it is, and especially what it will be if you make the Sweet 16. That just immediately makes this the best season for Iowa in 20+ years. That the best season in most of these player's lifetimes. Maybe you get hot in the S16 and make the Elite 8. That makes it the best season in 30+ years. I get being frustrated, I honestly do, but take a step back and appreciate it for what it is, not what it isn't.

Exactly correct. sweet 16 is no joke and a good year. Everyone needs to stop freaking out about this slump. 2-3 weeks ago everyone thought OSU was down and they weren't ranked. It is the nature of the beast in this league.

I don't think think it is a 'slump' so to speak. When you get in conference teams know each other, they can game plan to attack the jbo's and cmac's. There is a growing amount of people attributing the 'slump' to how the rotations are being handled. The 2nd half last night was a good example. The way that o$u was scoring Fran probably thought he needed to keep his offense on the floor when in reality if he changes the rotation and gets 2-3 stops that 11 point lead stays there and it's done with slowing down the other team.

As another poster mentioned; nearly every national and local beat sports reporter gets it - and mentions it in nearly every pre-, in- game, and post-game assessment...

... Believe it! We suck at defense but Fran refuses to address for reasons that almost all of the fan base doesn’t understand.

I do not believe many folks are singing the praise for CM this year given his play. He has lost his intensity and is a definitely a liability at this point. He should not be playing much let alone starting. But hey, Dad's the head coach!
Really, lost his intensity? CMAC may have some shortcomings offensively, but there is not a lack of effort. Every time I read one of your posts I wish I could get the five seconds back I took out of my life to read it.

something to think about . i agree with most everyone that the younger kids need to play more and certain players need less minutes regardless of offense , but is it a guarantee ? as quick as ohio st is why could they not guard our slower 3 pt shooters ? both teams were 14 for 32 from 3 point land . something to ponder for your saturday .

IMO the defense is a problem because of the roster. You address the defense through recruiting. It's not something that can be fixed during the season. He's still put together a roster that is a top 15 team at worst.
