This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

Perhaps some context.

Fact: Assuming KIAs accurately represented age groups serving in Vietnam, the average age of an infantryman (MOS 11B) serving in Vietnam to be 19 years old is a myth, it is actually 22. None of the enlisted grades have an average age of less than 20. The average man who fought in World War II was 26 years of age.

Vietnam War Facts, Stats and Myths - US Wings

Average age of the Ukrainian army is 43.
Knowing the age floor is 27, thats a preponderance of middle aged dudes doing the fighting and dying.

Do our stepped up attacks on Iran have anything to do with Iran supplying arms to Russia?

I haven't heard anyone suggest that but if Biden can't get money for Ukraine, a back door way to help Ukraine is to go after Russia's arms suppliers.

Hardly anyone will object to hitting Iran, as long as it doesn't get out of control.

Taking out their drone factory(s) would do a lot for global stability.

I wish we would take out of of their drone factories too. This would also help Israel as well as Ukraine. But I suspect we will continue to only attack the Iranian proxie forces for fear of starting a wider war. Though this lack of stronger action may actually be more likely to lead to that which the US seems to fear.

SIAP-Ecuador joining Greece in exchanging Soviet era weapons for US weapons and aid.

"MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia's foreign ministry on Friday condemned a decision by Ecuador to hand over Russian-made military hardware to the United States for use in Ukraine as a "reckless" breach of contract, the RIA news agency reported.
The Ecuadorean government said last month it would take up an offer from Washington to swap what it called "Ukrainian and Russian scrap metal" for advanced U.S. equipment worth $200 million.
The United States has said the arms it gets from Ecuador will be sent to Ukraine to help bolster its forces on the battlefield against Russia." More

Looks like more anti aircraft stuff.

Has that $200 million been appropriated or is the Biden admin shuffling around existing US supplies in an end run around Congress?

Reasonably clever, but when Trump does this kind of thing I object. So I feel like I should object when Biden does it, as well.

Probably something related to narcotrafficking that they can consider it being drawn from in appropriations, and thereby creating the opportunity to provide Ukraine more gear it’s familiar with.

You're thinking of Reagan's Iran-Contra policies.

This is under long-time legislation that allows the donation of obsolete/surplus weapons to certain treaty allies. The "circle" donations they then make to Ukraine is the new twist Biden put on it.

Still a "donation" if the receiver makes a donation in kind.

No, I’m not talking about anything being done illicitly.

I’m talking about stuff like this:

US quietly strikes deal to send military to Ecuador amid drug cartel explosion

4 October 2023
Anna Giaritelli
Washington Examiner
EXCLUSIVE — The Biden administration has quietly entered into agreements with Ecuador that will allow the United States to send in military forces, both on land and off the coast of the South American country, which has been heavily affected by drug cartels operating in the region.
Select members of Congress were informed during a private briefing on Capitol Hill with Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso on Wednesday. Lasso was in Washington to meet with State Department officials and sign two deals, according to Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), who was present at the meeting and spoke with the Washington Examiner on Thursday.
"They were announcing and signing an agreement with the United States," said Crenshaw, leader of the Congressional Task Force to Combat Mexican Drug Cartels
.

We’ve had deals in the past, particularly with Columbia, where we give them military equipment to fight their narco trafficking rebels.
I’m thinking there is probably budget authority already in place for the DoD to make transfers for combatting drugs, and they can tap that to upgrade Ecuador (in the middle of their crazy fight) and get gear to Ukraine ‘incidentally’.
It’s clever, not nefarious.

I’d never heard of anything like it before. Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela aren’t exactly ‘treaty allies’.
Their president indicated it’s a future agreement:

Ecuador plans to transfer Russian-made weapons to the United States in exchange for new equipment costing some $200 million, Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa said.

"Yes, we have assistance [from the US]. First, we will swap Ukrainian and Russian scrap metal for advanced equipment costing $200 million," he said in an interview with the Canela radio station.

According to Noboa, the agreement should be finalized "by the end of this month."

Commander of United States Southern Command Laura Richardson said in January 2023 that Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua and six more Latin American countries possess Russian-made weapons and the country would be willing to swap these Russian weapons for US-made ones if said countries agree to transfer them to Ukraine.
