This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

Saw where this would be an ongoing theme for the rest of the year - packages around 400 million.

"US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, during his visit to Kyiv, stated that the United States will provide Ukraine with a new military aid package worth $400 million.
"Under the leadership of Joe Biden, the US continues to increase its support for Ukraine. Today, I want to announce a new presidential assistance package worth $400 million," Austin said.
According to him, the new package will include ammunition, military equipment, and weaponry for Ukraine.
Austin arrived in Kyiv today on an unannounced visit. His agenda includes discussions on further assistance to Ukraine, particularly in light of the fact that future aid may depend on the results of the upcoming US presidential election.

US aid to Ukraine

On October 16, US President Joe Biden announced a new military aid package for Ukraine worth $425 million. The package includes air defense systems, ammunition, armored vehicles, and other critical resources.
Additionally, Ukraine will receive more weaponry, including air defense interceptors, artillery systems, and armored vehicles.
At the same time, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the United States would provide Ukraine with a series of military aid packages between October and December, with a total value ranging from $500 million to $750 million."

Is this good or bad?

Stalin's purges sometimes left the USSR without experienced personnel in key positions. If Putin is replacing experienced people with yes men, how might that impact the war?

I've given up trying to keep track of US funding for Ukraine. There was $100. Later there was $60 billion. Then there was $40 billion. And scattered throughout are these smaller tranches: $400 million; $425 million.....

The problem is, many of those announcements are RE-announcements. If you add them up, you might think we've probably already given them a quarter of a trillion dollars. But what's the real total?

Wait. Are we saying Russia is losing 20K men per month? Even if most are just wounded or whatever and not killed, that seems hard to sustain.

Then again, when this war ends, just think of all the Russia mail order brides who will show up in the new catalogues - to go along with the Ukrainian brides now becoming available. The good looking gals don't want to have to share leftovers.

You are correct these small amounts are part of the billions announced earlier. The other thing that confuses people is that much of this money actually stays in the US to pay companies making weapons for Ukraine.

Sad.

I notice she calls the Ukraine war a "genocide." I thought we had agreed to stop calling Putin's war a "genocide."

At least until we stop supporting the more obvious genocide that the Israeli's are carrying out (and expanding).

It's a bad look to be giving proportionally much more money and weapons to the perpetrator of the more obvious genocide than to the victim of the other genocide.

Air defenses would be nice, but the #1 thing I assume the South Koreans have in bulk is 155 mm shells. It has been reported in this thread a few times that instead of shipping shells to Ukraine directly, the Koreans have "swapped", stocks with countries like the US. Time to send 500,000 shells for starters.

Good article from Business Insider that maybe the West isn't targeting the right things for sanctions. The West should go after the raw supplies needed to make new artillery tubes, and the cotton cellulose needed for shells. There is some wisdom in targeting Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, both have been a little wobbly towards their former Soviet masters. Especially the cellulose, the West could simply buy that up in bulk at a better price to take the sting away from sanctions

"tanks on the move -Military transports have been spotted several times at Senftenberg station in Lower Lusatia. (Germany) Military equipment keeps appearing on the tracks, which attracts the attention of local residents. These recordings are from October 21, 2024.Senftenberg is located not far from the Polish border, which potentially makes the station an important hub."

Disagree. Have you seen how many citizens have died in Ukraine compared to true estimates out of Gaza and the documented war crimes and mass graves. And they were invaded by the second biggest army in world unprovoked.

Israel situation sucks but they are responding to a terrorist attack leaving 1,000 plus citizens dead, many of them raped and tortures women and kids within a small enclave the size of big city within their own country. The group attacking wants eveey single Israeli dead and about 65-70% of the dense urban enclave feel the same. They then hide in tunnels beneath schools and hospitals. Situations are apples and oranges with exception of a tie to Russia (no way Russia did not support Iran and want it to happen to distract from his genocide). Which is not to say Israeli troops have not done war crimes. But if they were a Russia genocide terrorist state all of Gaza would be gone and way way more citizens would have died. Palestine enclaves in West Bank would be smoldering too.
