This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

Ukraine is a incredibly poor country. One of the poorest in Europe. The US spends $12k per person per year on health, the most in the world. Ukraine spends about $250 per person. Sub the word "clinic" for "hospital" and maybe it makes more sense to you.
Yes makes sense. Their healthcare is compartmentalized then. Learn something new every day.

My thesis was nuclear proliferation with a historical focus on the Cuban missile crisis and the proliferation that came in the 15-20 years after that. My research is dated but I've done some reading since. Especially regarding naval nuclear capabilities. I have a friend who is a retired naval commander that served on several nuclear submarines. All of which were attack class subs that tracked/stalked Russian subs.

Is your last name Costanza?

What is mind-blowing is some folks around here are fooled into thinking there is no risk because of what they see on TV with the Russians failing. Mariupol ( a former city in Ukraine) is an example of what that rag tag military is capable of.

Are we supposed to be afraid of their military too? All they are good at is overwhelming much smaller opponents who have far fewer resources, and launching artillery and missiles at residential districts for days and weeks because they can do so essentially unopposed.

Back on, oh, page 200 and something, there was an interesting Tweet with an article linked talking to a journalist - can't remember which outlet it was -- that was noting how much more fit, healthy and robust the average Ukrainian soldier in the conflict was than the average Russian soldier. That sure seems to be the case in the footage, too. That isn't something that would come immediately to mind when thinking about strategic advantage, but over time, I think it does make a big difference.

One of the generals on CNN the other night also noted how big of a morale and even physical difference it makes that the Ukrainian soldiers for the most part are still getting good hot food and sleeping in more comfortable warm quarters than their Russian foe. The longer that goes on, the more the battle of attrition swings in Ukraine's favor as well.

It becomes more evident every day that Putin overestimated the division Trump created in NATO between 2017-2021.

Either that, or he underestimated the ability of Biden to strengthen NATO.

The civilian losses are horrific, but Russian military looks like a "paper tiger". Another 2-3 weeks of Ukrainian gains and continued NATO armaments and desertion and surrenders from Russian troops will be overwhelming, imo.

Russia hasn't shown that they put anything that resembles quality thought and analysis into their decision making. They are good at stealing, spying, bribing, plundering, raping and murdering. When this doesn't work, as you point out that it won't, they'll crank up the war machine again and take another piece of real estate. Then, the cycle will repeat.
Sounds a lot like the mafia.

is it normal to shoot in a group like the end of that clip. The soldier in back was shooting over top of the heads of his comrades. Not been in the military but that looks off.
They should use flame throwers for Kadyrov and muslim troops. They hate it because it reminds them of Hindu cremation and that defiles their body forever from their 72 virgins and janat (heaven). That's what the Indian Army does and Pakistanis would prefer dying by any other means rather than that. Another thing is to put a piece of pork in the corpses mouth. Both have obvious shock value.

Or.... the other side would say that Putin overestimated Zerensky's leadership abilities and Biden had jack shit to do with it. Biden needs to quit talking and send weapons. That's the only thing he should do going forward. He's going to get innocent people gassed or nuked. OK, back to coverage of the Ukraine War.

The ambassador appears to be talking solely about their STRATEGIC (i.e. rocket/submarine multiple warhead) nuclear arsenal and not their TACTICAL (i.e. battlefield, single-warhead) nuclear arsenal.

To me, the concern is if the conventional war continues to go south, Russia may turn to a tactical nuke (which they have many more of than the US) in order to "escalate-to-de-escalate).

Probably tastes better, too.
It's funny, over the weekend, I ran into a former neighbor who was back in the neighborhood visiting some folks down the street. He was former peace corps and spent about 5 years in ukr after the wall came down. He was telling me how the cultural reality was that the babushkas really ran the place at a local level, and were smart as a whip

Big game now on who falls into those categories. Also interesting to see the intel leaking out at the breadth of Russian Federation agents working in government and as propagandists in NATO countries. Can't wait for the list to drop on the US. Putin spent 10's of billions on this and it damn near worked....he just forgot to check and make sure his military was spending their billions right. Going to be some amazing books and movies, should we all live through it.
