I generally am pro-environmentalist, but the fight against nuclear power has never made sense to me.

The threat of disposing/storing nuclear waste as well as the threat of major accidents at plants is far, far, far less than the harm done to the planet from fossil fuels.

In younger days, I would have opposed this opinion, but I am coming around…
Petro harm is far more widespread, tho the half life of nuclear waste has been exposed in a very visible way in Chernobyl recently.
Petro waste can and should be reigned in and the cost of containment should be charged at the pump. Don’t pass the costs along in ways such as Super Fund sites.
Charge the consumer for all petro costs so that they get the big picture.
Who should pay to cleanup big spills, little spills, cancer due to exposure, etc…

Petro waste can and should be reigned in and the cost of containment should be charged at the pump. Don’t pass the costs along in ways such as Super Fund sites.

If we’d been actively working on nuclear technology the way we should have, we’d have Thorium reactors with low half-life waste products.
