Three Team Race

You say Iowa has guys that score bonus points like Penn State, but that isn't exactly true. As you can see via the most dominant metric created by the NCAA, Penn State produces more points per match at 7 of 10 weight classes. Also, Penn State averages at least a full point more at 6 of those 7 weights. You certainly have a number of wrestlers who could find themselves in the finals (although I think only Gilman and Sorenson will), but to count on anyone besides Gilman (especially as they get deeper into the tournament) scoring a ton of bonus points would be unrealistic.

Can you explain, Annie? How can one average negative points per match? I'm obviously reading this wrong.

I know, but every now and again we're blessed with dumb luck.
Stoll is an example of an elite recruit (not a mid-tier recruit) whom TnT trained into an elite wrestler. It is consistent with the opinion that we need more elite recruits, and it is consistent with the opinion that TnT are great coaches. It's not consistent with the opinion that TnT can spin straw into gold.

You give me 3 points and I'll take Stoll for a $100 donation to W4L... Deal?

LOL, how did we get from matchup nightmare and Snyder isn't a major threat to Stoll to you suddenly needing points? Talk about a bait and switch.

I am not really into making bets with anonymous people on the internet anyways.

You don't pay him, you pay a wrestling charity called Wrestling For Life...it's an honor thing.

I said I think it's a "winnable" match for Stoll. Kyle Snyder, the friggin' Olympic Champion, is obviously the favorite. I just happen to think Stoll is a bad match up for him and think he'll give Snyder a helluva match with a chance to pull off the W.

I think Stoll at -3 is pretty fair bet. You lose to donate $100 to our favorite charity here, "Wrestling for Life".

I can easily picture a 4-3 match with 2 Snyder takedowns and 3 Stoll escapes. Snyder choosing both up with his choice. I will be surprised if Sam gets a takedown himself, but if he does look out.

He had to make weight at 213 lbs (97 Kg) in Siberia at the Yarygin tournament only 5 days before and then fly back so I would be surprised if he was too much more than that. Pretty freaking awesome what he's doing if you ask me.

The PSU fans not appreciating a world champ flying back from Russia like that to compete in their arena isn't even remotely surprising to me. I made the mistake of traveling to PSU once for a football game, never again. I've been to almost every Big Ten city over the years including Columbus several times for UM-OSU games and have never seen fan behavior that even comes close.
You have not been to WVU stadium if you think PSU fans are bad!

Currently undefeated Chief...;)

How so???? I could have sworn you were on the losing side of my Gulibon-Clark wager last year. Just because I donated as well, doesn't make it a win.

Apologies in advance if it was another HR member - but thought it was you, although my memory is not quite photographic these days.

I'm certainly undefeated on this board - 1-0 - but that could be in jeopardy this March. Although possibly not if McCutcheon did his job correctly and dodged enough opponents and faked his injury long enough to secure a better seed - causing Brooks to get a terrible draw and fail to AA ;)

You swore wrong... Wasn't in on that action hoss. Btw, you owe another $100. If I'm not mistaken you took Grothus to represent '49 for us this year.

Now you really have me confused. There was a Grothus bet on 149 this year? I seem to recall something like that on the board last year following an early season defeat of Sorensen, but don't think I would have participated.

Unless I'm completely whiffing here I don't recall there even being that bet on here this year, and don't see why I would have taken Grothus as Im a big Sorensen fan and have been on record about that. Unless he is wrestling Zain of course.

I'll check my posting history in a bit to make sure but am pretty sure I wasn't involved in taking GRoth us over Sorenson this year unless I was just interested in donating.

I know we bet on something involving Grothus/Sorensen... And I do remember getting the impression that you weren't worried about losing because you'd be donating anyway.

I'll check my messages as I remember GG messaging me to tell me you were a swell fella after we had went a couple rounds and we made the bet.

He messaged me on 5/20... So the supposed bet was around that time.

That may have been the bet I thought I remembered last year. I was a little confused because your post read like the bet was for the 2015-16 season. I stand corrected - I'm 1-1 on here. As posted, my memory is far from photographic nowadays. Can't say I regret it though - I remember I liked Grothus going for it in the face of everybody wondering why he wasn't heading to another weight at that time. He was like "I'm wrestling 149 and gd it, I'm going to win 149."
