Throwing a chair, challenge cube and red carded ...

Lol. Gotta love FLO bias... "flipped a chair".... come on, we all know he hurled it at the ref like it was shot out of a canon.

Anyway, the more I think about it the more I love how Cael is there for "his guys". How he's got the backs of "his guys". How he wants to stand up for and protect "his guys"....

Just so we are on the same page, when an Iowa coach does this they are a maniac who must be stopped. Do I have that right?

I enjoy the rationalization of this.

Good video from Taylor, didn't own up to it, but I don't think really needed to.

I liked these two lines from Flo:

After an incredible NCAA tournament that ended with five champs, Penn State turned their energy and attention toward the World Team Trials. Heading into Lincoln, they had guys at four weights who were realistic threats to make the world team, but the Taylor loss clearly left a sour taste in their mouths.

Of course, naturally, an article about Cael reacting how he did has to be in the context of having just won a title with five champs! Also, four realistic winners at the Trials!

And then it stops. How many of those realistic winners won? Retherford. Why is that not in the article?

Context, my friend. Context is important. In a thread comparing Iowa and PSU such a comment is relevant. In a thread about Iowa high school wrestling, a potential transfer, a recruiting thread, a HWC thread, etc. PSU is not germane to the discussion and such a comment will not be well received. In short, you and your brethren have a propensity to interject yourselves into discussions that have nothing to do with Penn State. We do not need to be reminded, nor do we want to be reminded, of PSU's recent dominance. PSU wrestling is good enough to stand on it's own. It doesn't need you to search out and squash the slightest thought or mention of disrespect.

Of course, I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. I don't know why I bother.

Kind of odd article by FLO. The story was out, so I guess they felt they needed to cover it. Instead of reporting it as a story of poor sportsmanship, however, they try to give justification to their actions - and act like the official deserved to be pelted with a challenge brick in the chest for screwing DT? Typical PSU lovin' FLO.

I like DT and understand his disappointment. Still poor sportsmanship, but understandable. Cael's reaction - not so much.

Spot on post. I love Flo and have been an avid subscriber and nothing will change that. But this is a pretty typical article.

Whatever, it is what it is at this point. They are the hot ticket right now. Let's just claim our rightful place at the top of the podium and then they can push another agenda.

What does this have to do with wrestling? I just don't get what repeatedly throwing this in their faces accomplishes.

Amen!! I thought I was watching the video to see a chair being thrown. WTF! Like or hate PSU, this video doesn't have jack shit to do with PSU wrestling so I'm thinking the individual who posted it is an idiot. Just sayin...

They missed it...just happened to be panning to see faces in the crowd while shit fit is being thrown. Hey, at least the article provided a 1000 word context two days later vs quickly throwing it up like Gilman's Midlands thing.

The top dog in the NCAA and his protege getting bounced from the tourney is not a big deal...nothing to see here or to report right away.

I've never wrestled (and realize I probably can't get an unbiased opinion here), was the move that injured Cox anything out of the ordinary?

Also, is there protocol for stopping the match to dry the mat?

Zain may still have to wrestle Oliver for that spot. I'm of the opinion that you're responsible for what you put in your body and don't really care what Oliver has to say. I'm in the minority with that stance, and wouldn't be shocked if they gave JO a shot.

Nothing dirty or illegal if that is the question. DT had his lower leg below the knee and forced it downward (against the knee joint) and it hyperextended. Nothing out of the ordinary though.

There was no intent to injure Cox and nothing extraordinary about the sequece of events that led to his injury...just an unfortunate byproduct of a very physical sport.

Concerning the mat, the ref should have made sure the mat was dry and the wrestlers were dry as well (just like they do at the beginning of the first and second periods). Under the circumstances they should have considered moving to another mat if they didn't want to take the time to fully dry the current mat.

yep. We love Penn State. Hate Iowa.

we spin and time everything to pass along this agenda.

you guys nailed it.
Love your work Willie...Christian as well. Do what you do and keep on keeping on regardless of what they say here.

Do you dispute the hypothesis that if Brands/Gilman would have acted this way that Flo would have reported it differently?

yes. i do dispute that.

i've explained myself and flo's editorial decisions on here far more often than i should.

it doesn't do any good. this board revels in 'they hate us' and 'they don't show us the same love'.

it's a you problem. i'm done trying to rationalize.

Unrelated, but I'm currently in Canada and when I try to watch the Terry documentary, it says "This video is not authorized in your location". Why would that be? Any chance there's a fix? Emailed flo support about it, but this is the response I got "While you enjoy your subscription, I recommend watching the critically acclaimed "Terry." It's an original FloFilm about legendary wrestler Terry Brands and his pursuit of a gold medal in the Olympics."

Thanks.

Great video coverage of the event btw. Flo really is doing an excellent job of making the matches available to watch online with high quality. The instant replay is great.

maybe FLO doesn't like canadians and the IP address is blocked....try to access it through a VPN site that is in the states.

Dude, the entire article reads like a justification for Cael's actions, and Taylor's for that matter. This paragraph alone illustrates it perfectly:

After an incredible NCAA tournament that ended with five champs, Penn State turned their energy and attention toward the World Team Trials. Heading into Lincoln, they had guys at four weights who were realistic threats to make the world team, but the Taylor loss clearly left a sour taste in their mouths.

How does what PSU did three months ago in March have anything to do with Cael being ejected from the tournament? It's not even the same level or style of wrestling! The headline of the story is "Why Cael Sanderson Was Ejected From The World Team Trials". THAT is the story.

Tell you what, I took the liberty of writing the next FLO story if Tom or Terry does something as unsportsmanlike as Cael did:

Headline: Tom and Terry Brands Ejected From Tournament For Unsportsmanlike Actions.

Body: Olympic Champion, World Champion, and 3-time NCAA Champion, and coach of the 23 time National Championship wining Iowa Hawkeyes, Tom Brands, and his Olympic Bronze Medalist, 2 Time World Champion, and 2 Time NCAA Champion, Associate Head Coach at Iowa, were upset because (insert reason for the unsportsmanlike conduct here). Last year, the Brands brothers landed one of the most heralded recruits in all of college wrestling, Spencer Lee, from Pennsylvania no less. Lee cited the two coaches as his primary reason for coming to Iowa. They then turned their attention to (insert whatever tournament they get booted from here) with hopes of placing all of their stud wrestlers on the stand. - Full Stop.

I know you're thinking we're all conspiracy theorists, but if you can't see PSU bias in the way this was reported on a coach being ejected from the WTT for unsportsmanlike conduct, you're at a minimum being disingenuous.

Is there any interview or clarification from Cael on his actions and why he was ejected from the World Team Trials? Or anything from USAW issuing a statement on this?

Also, does anybody know the last time a coach got ejected and a wrestler got a yellow card in a tournament like this? Is it a fairly normal thing to happen?

I think they tend to forget all the "love" Iowa has received (in just documentaries alone) throughout the years. I wish I could apologize for them, for being so selfish and unappreciative..

What exactly is the punishment for getting red carded? How about getting red carded after all of your guys have finished wrestling? Just curious. Anyone know?

Can anybody give some specific articles/attention directed at Iowa for behavior that didn't match this debacle? Otherwise these guys can skate on their merry way. Links always appreciated.
