A JUCO would have multiple years of eligibility is one reason to not do this. We all know the reputation Crean got by not renewing scholarships.

And yet some can't understand this...

There is over 1,000 players in the transfer portal right now. If we don't add talent at C and G we are not trying. So many good PG's in the portal right now it's crazy. A one year option at PG would be perfect to let Bowen evolve into the role of taking over the team.

Nijel Pack from Kansas State just entered the portal. Looks like his lead recruiter at Iowa was Sherman Dillard, but we never offered out of high school. He's from Indy so I assume he would know of Perkins through the AAU circuit. He averaged 17 points per game last year. Yes, please!

Fran is not going to add a PG from the portal. Could maybe look for a shooter, but they would have to be willing to take a smaller role and come off the bench. Ultimately, Fran will probably get a big from the portal then bank any remaining scholarships.

Fran will not bring in a point guard as the offense is too complicated per Brian Ferentz.

I think they feel like Bowen can come in and handle the 1 or 2 along with help from Ulis/Perkins. Their more immediate need is a big. I would rather they go after a defensive shot blocking, rebounding big than a stretch which seems to always be their mo.

Nope, not broken. Will be an interesting season next year, 30+ minutes a game with Connor at PG. Like Linderbaum last season in football, best recruiting job Fran did to bring back an impact player.

Iowa will be picked lower in the conference again, should finish higher, Fran definitely has the offense figured out. Will be interesting to see without Keegan though

no, he isn't.

Bowen/Ulis/Perkins/CMac/Dix are all capable combo guards. Then you have Sandfort/PMac/Kris Murray that can get minutes at times at the 2.

Then yes, Kingsbury and Laketa would be guys that could contribute if needed.

We'll be fine in the backcourt with or without adding someone from the portal.

Portal is going to be a big.

Sorry, but NONE of Sandfort/Pmac/Kris Murray should ever be playing the 2 guard for a top 25 level team....Thats just filling spots with players on the roster and settling.

Kansas Basketball pre fall 2021: Bill Self recruits two portal point guards to KU, neither of which is starting, but Remy Martin plays a big role. The big boys stockpile talent and let things shake out. There’s a reason why they are in a final four.

Sure there is because they cheat their ass off. How many times has KU been caught and put on probation? Hell this last time what was it five top level infractions and still NO penalty has been assessed?

There's also https://www.barttorvik.com/playerst...ear=2022&minmin=0&start=20211101&end=20220501 which utilizes more just straight statistics from previous years. This site also allows you to add transfers to the roster and spits out how the Offensive and Defensive ranks would be with adding or subtracting guys.

Just be careful: the portal can be a time suck as there's over 1000 players in there.

Iowa is losing Keegan, JBo, Joe T, and Josh, as well as Austin Ash on a scholarship and only adding two guards in Dix and Bowen. Fran better get at least a guard and one or two big men if possible as well as Shaw if he can sign him. At least bring in the Iona kid.

I hope McCaffery is taking a look at a lot of players in the portal as, as far as I'm concerned, we may not have seen the last of the defectors. I would like him to find a big wing scorer and a rim protector, both of which have pride in their defense. I would rather that Connor had decided to not come back, just because of the divisiveness he causes on here, but it sounds as though he is going to use his covid year and thus will play quite a bit. If Dix is truly healthy, great! I'm also hoping Perkins continues his quality play and Sandfort finds some consistency and develops into a scoring source we can count on.

Ronman I respect you as a poster. But to hope someone does not return to the team next year because some messages board posters are negative is really not a valid reason.

Fran decided not to do that - he didn't "choose" between Ash and someone else - he had his team set, had an extra scholly and gave it to Ash.

It's perfectly understandable to wonder why he didn't go grab another player, but that's a whole different conversation than giving a scholly to Ash.

But that was the choice. Fran's choice. And why some of us would consider it wasted.

If there was any evidence that Fran looked everywhere (portal, junco, overseas, etc.) and couldn't find a guard who could compete make them better then it would be a different story. But that is definitely not the case.
He had a short, slow three point specialist coming back for his 10th year of eligibility to get a lot of minutes. Then spread the rest between a pg he seemed to have no confidence in who had a very short leash and a guy who had a few moments that he seemed engaged and a few more that he looked to be sleep walking through.

I agree with you in that he(Fran) had his team set. That was the problem. And why that scholly was wasted

I am not lost lol. I am just making the comment that he is playing extended minutes at basketball for this team. He deserves 0 mins imo. Hopefully he leaves the program or becomes an assistant coach.
