This is true. We have waited patiently, had meetings, and pleaded for Iowa Athletics to help us. They have always been pleasant, cordial, and appreciative for putting all of this together. Unfortunately, however, up until this point, they have not done the things that other schools are doing to help their collectives be successful. I want access to season-ticket holders and donors. And if that isn’t possible, I want them to educate the fanbase for us and endorse what we are trying to do here. See Michigan, Ohio St, North Carolina, etc.
When I got denied due to the fact that I refuse to raise money for all student-athletes in all sports and adhere to Title IX, I became pretty frustrated. And when I see the schools we compete with providing their collectives with the same things I’m asking for, I find that very difficult to take lying down.
Here’s the reality….we have football and basketball players that are either going to be paid, or they are going to leave. I’m the one who has to make this happen with the support of our fanbase. If I can’t reach our fanbase and ask for support, how are we going to keep our players happy and how are we going to have a place where top prospects/recruits want to be??
I could have sat back and continued to take it, but I figured Hawkeye fans would rather I fight for Iowa as opposed to sitting back and watching our football and basketball teams fall apart.
Thanks to everybody who supports us. For those critical of me, please feel free to set up shop and raise money for these kids yourself. I will cheer you on. And if you prove to do a much better job than I have, I will gladly stand down and toss you my keys. This is a philanthropic endeavor for me…I’m not taking a dime from this. In fact, quite the contrary.
Go Hawks, and Merry Christmas!
