I was prepared to loudly defend the players in all this, but honestly everything that has come out so far is such an obvious no-no that there is no defending it.
Yeah, I noticed that as well. For some reason everyone used their mom’s name. I guess they knew the dad would object but they figured mom would never say no?One other interesting trend, a lot of the underaged gamblers used their mothers names. I imagine there’s a few pissed off husbands/fathers out of this ordeal.
information from who? the NCAA as it pertains to disciplinary actions for the likes of Noah Shannon? or from the Iowa DCI as it pertains to their ongoing investigation / player involvement?
Maybe Mama has a friend on the team or coaching staff? It sounds like some of these players thought they could get away with it by using a family member’s name on the account but they didn’t realize the authorities can pinpoint the location of your phone. I read on the ISU forums that Hunter Dekker supposedly wouldn’t budge on his story that it was his mom placing the bets and he had no idea, even when they presented him with evidence that the bets were being placed in team facilities late at night.
I saw a rumor on the wrestling board that there may be as many as 11 wrestlers caught up in this. Hopefully most/all of them are minimal punishments or that could get ugly.I count 10 former & current Iowa student athletes being named so far. But I think there's MORE than 16 yet be be named because the UI's May 8 announcement stated the list of 111 individuals included 26 CURRENT student-athletes. The list of 10 student athletes (and one coach) that follows contains at least THREE FORMER student athletes (so there might be more 16 student-athletes yet to be named).
* On March 22, 2023 BB player Ahron Ulis announced that he was entering the transfer portal. He ended up at Nebraska
* FB players Reggie Bracy & Arland Bruce transferred in the offseason.
Of the Iowa student athletes (former & current) tied to gambling, here's the breakdown BY SPORT of who's been named publicly so far:
Baseball:
Keaton Anthony
Jacob Henderson
Ben Tallman
Gehrig Christensen--criminally charged
Football:
DL Noah Shannon
DB Reggie Bracy (now at Troy)--criminally charged
WR Arland Bruce (now at OK State)--criminally charged
WR Jack Johnson--criminally charged
Kicker/Punter Aaron Blom--criminally charged
Basketball:
Ahron Ulis (now at Nebraska)--criminally charged
Wrestling:

Coaches:
FB Grad assistant Owen O'Brien--criminally charged

I’ve seen rumors that a couple starters in our defensive backfield, along with obviously Noah Shannon, are caught up with this. I just hope it’s 3 games or less so we can be at full strength against Penn State.and if many of the 11 are projected as starters....ughhhh....
hopefully all the names have been released for baseball, MBB and FB.
If so, wrestling and track & field are the next to get hit

First and foremost, the athletes betting were dumb and deserve to be punished.
However…
1). It’s beyond F’d up that the state of Iowa was the only target.
2). It’s beyond F’d up that Harbaugh (or any coach) can lie to the NCAA and get a minimal game ban while these kids get full year bans or total eligibility stripped. For the record I’m fine with strong punishing for athletes as long as it’s consistent across schools (SEC gets away with murder) and coaches get a wrist slap.
WTF is wrong with this F’ing sport leadership!!???

Thanks for alerting me to your post. I just checked the 2023-24 baseball roster and don't see any of those four guys, so they probably aren't among the "unknown athletes" mentioned in the other thread.@Hawkeye Marching Band ,

The NCAA didn't start this investigation. The Iowa DCI did. That is the reason other schools aren't involved. After the DCI started the investigation the NCAA got involved. The NCAA is rudderless, unfortunatley

I don't like the NCAA or how they enforce rules, but this was started here in Iowa because of potential illegal betting in the state.
Every one of these athletes knew they weren't allowed to bet. But, they did. I hate that it affects our teams, but these players did something they KNEW they weren't supposed too.
Why is the suspension 30% for football but full season for wrestlers ? and again why are Iowa and ISU the only institutions in the country that get investigated for this ? ITs going on at every school in every state.
Agree the NCAA is reactive not proactive. But, I don't think you can blame those bozos for this one.Yeah, I realize the DCI started the investigation, alerted Iowa, who then alerted the NCAA.
The reason I say the NCAA is rudderless is because this is going on all over the country, the NCAA knows it, and there's nothing they will do about it. The NCAA is reactive, rarely proactive.
Btw, what sparked this whole investigation, anyway? A tip or something else?
Is it legal to exclude women and female student athletes?

Rumor on the clown board was it was an ex girlfriend who alerted the DCI. Have absolutely no idea if true. Remember it was on a clown board.
Do we know if female athletes were excluded? Maybe none were found? Don't think we can say that they were excluded.
If so then we need to investigate the DCI.One defense attorney is alleging females and female sports were excluded
If so then we need to investigate the DCI.
The rumor is that they bet on the women’s final 4 games involving Iowa, which is a big no-no in the eyes of the NCAA. Hopefully Noah Shannon and any other football players just bet on the NFL or something not involving an Iowa team. Why is the suspension 30% for football but full season for wrestlers ? and again why are Iowa and ISU the only institutions in the country that get investigated for this ?
