Freestyle fans let's get some US Open chatter going.

57kgs - Spencer and Suriano are probably the finals most are expecting. Richards looked good at World Cup. Glory shouldn't be overlooked.

I will never pick againt Spencer, but it's not going to be an easy road to make Final X.

61kgs - Gross, Arujau, Desanto, Nico, Garrett, Nato

Arujau looked fantastic at NCAAs, Desanto is hitting his freestyle stride, Nico and Nato are tough veterans.

Give me Gross for the win. Unorthodox and can score in bunches.

65kgs - going Nick Lee over McKenna. Henderson is always dangerous, could see him making a run. Lugo and Ashnault are tough, but don't see either making the finals

70kgs - anyone other than Pantaleo would be surprising.

74kg - Guessing we see a PSU final with Nolf taking out Joseph. Excited to see how O'Toole measures up.

79 - freaking meatgrinder....
Marsteller, Dieringer, Starocci, Lujan, McFadden, Marinelli, Kemerer, Kharchla

Tough to predict without knowing seeds, but I've been a fan of Dieringer for years, have been waiting for him to put it all together and I decided he's going to at the Open.
Dieringer over Starocci for the win.(followed by a Starocci tweet with guarantees of him winning Olympic gold)

86 - I have Zahid for the win. Not sure if it will be Hall or Brooks that he faces in the finals.

92 - Going Nate Jackson over Kollin Moore, but not too confident in that. Macc and Hidlay are a step below, but will make them earn it.

97 - Cox, but am very interested to see how Kueter does stepping up to the big leagues.

125 - Gable, duh. I got Parris over Gwiz to the finals.

To make the national team is it still top 3? Would love to see multiple national team members and Lee make the World team!

57: Agree it's hard to bet against Spencer even after the NCAA loss. If he can move decently well on his feet, he's a nightmare for freestyle opponents. I truly think that folkstyle rules hamper some of his insane abilities in a way that freestyle does not. The way he dismantled NATO in 2019 was nuts. Praying his body cooperates. If so, give me Spencer over Nicky Pushups in the finals. Could be wrong, but I don't see Glory posing the same threat in free that he does in folk.

61: Vito indeed looked incredible at NCAAs, but gotta go with Gross as well. He has been very impressive the last few years. That would be a great finals matchup. Could see DeSanto making a deep run, he has looked great lately as well, including beating Garrett recently. Nico did take out Gross last year so he shouldn't be slept on either. Go get some Cullan.

65: McKenna handled Lee at last year's trials. Lee did put a whooping on Yianni a couple years ago, but I'm going McKenna. Otherwise, Go Patricio.

70: Agree Pantaleo. The rest of the field after him seems pretty even, should be a fun weight.

74: Nolf next topic. Hoping to see Kaleb put on a good showing.

79: I'll go Marsteller over Dieringer. I give Starocci a 40% chance of winning and a 100% chance of posting a cringey ass tweet shortly after the tournament. Would love to see Bull or Kem Dawg take him out. Go Nelson as well.

86: Zahid over Brooks. Hall will be interesting to watch. Not a ton of depth after those three.

92: Agree Jackson over Moore. Jackson looked awesome last year and took a match from J'Den, but Moore has beaten Jackson a couple times before. Maybe the matchup I'm most interested in outside of the Hawks.

97: J'Den next topic. Gotta think Ben makes the finals here. If he somehow takes out Cox, I will personally fist fight Kirk Ferentz to prevent football from taking such an incredible talent away from the world's greatest sport.

125: Gable next topic. Will be very interesting to see if Parris has leveled up enough to get by a savvy veteran in Gwiz. That should be a great matchup. Give em hell Danimal!

The more I look at the field, the more pumped I'm getting about this event along with the Trials and Final X. There's reason to be concerned about the current state of college wrestling imo, but damn the USA overall is leveling up in a big way recently. Be worried, Russians.

I have not taken any days off for this event, but very little work will get done this week.

Imo Vito has jumped a level the last year, look for him to win at 61kg.
Unfortunately, I think Cox vs Kueter will be a man against a boy type thing. (It actually is)
Wouldn't be shocked if Cox teched him.

I will be presently surprised if he makes the final and have no inklings that he beats Cox. Senior level typically takes some break in time, especially when it's the bigger boys.

Good for him losing the weight. That's probably the real battle. I applaud the courage and discipline required to do what he's doing. I just hope he's able to ride off into the sunset without a serious injury. Will have little to zero affect on the field at 130.

Spencer 2 seed/Suriano semis
Desanto 5 seed
Lugo 4 seed
Marinelli 4 seed
Kemerer/Nelson rd 16 winner gets Starocci qf
Kueter 5 seed
A few head scratchers in there but overall seems pretty fair. I'm a bit surprised with Kueter at the 5, but I guess it's fair with his lack of senior level results. I was thinking the 3. No Cox-Kueter finals now.

A Bull vs Marsteller semi would be interesting if both get there.

Yep. Was also hoping he would be opposite Cox.

Glad to hear(per @smalls103) that Kueter is planning on entering the U20's WTT in June, so still has a great shot to make a World Team.

Wish Spencer would have hit Nicky six pack in the finals. Although if he wins that one I really like his chances against Glory/Richards. Glory is a folk guy with his riding plus 57Kg is a b*tch of a cut.

So which version of Spencer do we think we get?! The hobbler or the mean and nasty SoB? My wish is for the latter but my expectation is the former.

I’ll take ADS to win the tournament. Young man is still making unreal gains and I guarantee he can’t wait to show them off.
That would be incredible. Likely path from the quarters would be Colon, Gross, then Vito (maybe NaTo). I wouldn't put it past him. For some reason, I hadn't really considered him a major threat in freestyle, but he has looked better every time out.

I see Jaydin Eierman just signed up (apparently after the seeding deadline). He signed up as Missouri and Titan Mercury. Any reason to believe he’s no longer at HWC?

If he looks he did the last time we watched him in free (when he dominated NATO and Vito) nobody is touching him. Hopefully, it’s one of those “losing was a good thing situations”.

I think Desanto beats Gross. Was always better on feet than him. But, Gross is as good as they come with scrambling. That is must see action, hope it happens. If Vito wrestles like he did at Nattys, nobody is going to beat him, he is lightning fast, I think he found his weight class this year.

I’m loving the way he has been wrestling. Im pumped to see the HWC make a STAMP at these trials. Everyone should be wrestling with a chip, I want to see mean and nasty out of all of our guys. Time To Level UP! Let’s go HAWKS

I don't think ADS is there yet, though he's made some good gains. Colon and Gross are awful match ups with their par terre and exposure skills. I don't think he has the juice to hang with Vito (if the good Vito shows).

I hope Spencer is feeling good and ready to go. Long term if healthy, I think he's the guy, but the version we saw at NCAA"s and quite a bit this season loses to Suriano in the semis and defaults out.

Just booked my ticket to Vegas. Leaving tomorrow night. Lol
I was torn, not really a last minute type of guy. Then I said to myself, might never have the chance to see this much wrestling star power in one venue again in my life!
South Point is an awesome facility too. One of my favorite casinos in Vegas.
I'm freaking excited!!

I looked at the seeds and possible matchups and then put on my black and gold tinted sunglasses. Then you have to go and reel me back in to reality.

Chittum has withdrawn.
Apparently injured.

Wish I was surprised to hear this.
Nobody gets hurt in practice more than Iowa wrestlers.
Frustration in this program is boiling over.

Then leave. Nobody gives a f if you’re a fan of the program or not. It’s not a serious injury and he will most likely compete for the spot at the U20 trials.
