How did Long/Vines look in particular at the back? Those two are fighting for spots - Vines as backup LB and Long as CB#2 with Richards out due to minor knock.

Forget group stage, we won't score a goal all tournament. Pulisic is great and we need him, obviously, but we need somebody else who can at least be serviceable if he is not in the game. Otherwise, teams are just going to try and take him out of the tournament and let us flounder.
USMNT has looked increasingly Jekyll and Hyde under GB. Would be nice if they could be more consistent.
wasn’t at all sure what to expect from today - sounded like Weston had an uncharacteristically bad day, haven’t heard a peep about Tyler, I know Musah was out.
long doesn’t seem like a good pairing with Walker, they seem like similar players but that doesn’t automatically mean they complement each other well if that makes sense.
Vines was just ok. He sat back in the 1st half which was odd, but in the 2nd half he pressed forward more like he has in the past so I'm guessing this was part of the plan/tactics. Zimmerman looked tentative and Long looked lost. Japan pressed and clogged up the middle and we wilted. Not having Musah, Pulisic, Weah as threats allowed Japan to play forward more since we didn't have a threat to stretch them. I just don't like the style we play with... too much standing around while trying to play from the back with guys who aren't good enough with the ball at their feet.

Especially given the youth and international inexperience of the squad - what maybe 3 players will have been on a previous WC squad?; I’m hopeful we can get out of the group stage, but if nothing else I’m looking to simply have good performances to build on. These just can’t be France ‘98 or Germany ‘06 level of catastrophic performances.
Everything about this cycle has been about 1) redemption and qualifying for the WC after missing four years ago, and 2) building towards ‘26 when most of our best players should be on their prime.

A weekly 12 game season is a little different than a 3 game tournament 2 months away
I missed the game but it doesn't sound like it went well. It could be nobody wanted to risk their best players getting hurt before the tournament. Maybe these games are similar to the last pre-season game in football. It's not really there for the starters but to figure out who is going to round out the rest of your roster.

Honestly 1 goal against El Salvador is bigger to me than 2 against Grenada.
Pepi had a brace on Friday but that was only 2 of the 7 goals we scored. How many we score against El Salvador? 3 if we're lucky?? If Dike gets one goal that's bigger IMO than 2 against Grenada.
